I can only picture the look on your face when the drone decided to crash itself. It does look like the new closing wheels are doing a good job closing things up without packing it down to much. Thank you for today's video.
Is this a feed corn or a sweet corn and to tell the truth, that is just nomenclature that I pick up listening to others... I watch welker's do their planting and their off crop is soy beans or peas, can't really remember. I am a wanta be farmer, grew up in the fifties working dads hobby farm with just enough everything that I ran to the islands in the seventies and spent most my years in heavy equipment... trucks to drills, everything in between.. all stuff from the forties that meant that they knew better but money doesn't grow on trees physically but it was the bread and butter. I did repairs that would give todays men heartburn till hell froze over Andy. Young Andrew jr., doing a fine job with his live stream... I got tickled most when he went to daydreaming and then kinda come to saying I forgot what I was doing... something to that effect. Its kind of a good way to "babysit" the two of them, Sarah rescuing him and telling him not to be mean... I am sure she could paddle him were it necessary but she wouldn't knock dust out of a door rug. Two sweet kids. The Corona virus gave them a chance to farm with this distancing propaganda. Government never wasting a crisis! Still Trump is better that the Obama fiasco and every time I see Palouse standing behind the president, I think have they checked to see if she carries a gun??/LOL. We will get through this. Not many big farms like yours anymore.
Still cant get over remembering when a 4 row planter was big business being so much faster than.... Ya sure do make it look easy for sure... Thanks for the detailed showings very informative.
At least you went on and got the crashing out of the way first thing. It's crazy y'all are gettin snow in may... we're already side dressing corn in ky!
Awesome video Andy. That drone sure knows how to fly in circles! I wondered if one of the yellow centred wheels wasn't turning on the planter. Row 8 maybe. It's tucked under the drawbar so you might not see it from the cab.
It would have been nice if we could have gotten some feedback on the new Closures Disk/Opening Disk compared to OEM. Was waiting to hear what you guys thought. Well maybe in another video. Absolutely love the drone shots. Thanks
It’s soo weird not hearing the loud fans that I hear on most you tubers planters, it sounds like a flock of sparrows! love the channel keep up the great content! Hope it’s a bumper crop! Is it quiet because it’s ground driven? Sorry if ya said I missed it.
Lol I like how you included The drone crashing footage before flying over the planter. It’s strange when they randomly do that. When you were a kid did you ever think you would see the amount of technology in the tractors these days with GPS and everything? I watched Junior’s lifestream from yesterday he does damn good
Spot on Andy.👍 Done. Gone colder over here at the moment no snow you've had ours this winter. If that was a helicopter crash instead of a drone it would have been tail rotor failure! Keep the shiny Side up! Catch the next..
I use to plant 1200 acres of corn each year in the late 70s and 80s with a JD no-till 7000-8/30 and a JD 4020 power shift in Virginia for our dairy operation / No arm markers - No GPS - No auto drive / We had limestone rocks that you had to watch out for / I never will forget all the hard work farm life requires and my love for the third week in April so that I could start plant / Keep the great work up!
I'd rather be planting in the snow than harvesting in the snow. It's easier to be in the cold when you know it's liable to be warmer next week than to be in the cold knowing it's probably as warm as it's going to be for six months. In either case, the beer stays cold in the back of the pickup until the end of the day.
Interested to see how those closing wheels and openers work out. We started disking last week. Seems to be a bit cold here to start planting but the bigger guys around here are starting, we don't plant nowhere near the amount you guys or the bigger guys here do. We had a little snow Friday night down here and snow showers Saturday. Good luck
Technology is moving at a rapid pace, Before we know it AI will be the norm and farms will be run by Control Operators and Computer Software Engineers.
Good information in your video. It's good to know that there is a set order of operation in flying a drone. 1. crash it first...I'm happy that I've been doing it right all along. Good stuff Andy!
I bought a used 8 row White planter 4 years ago now, it has Martin spike steel closing wheels on it. Old single rubber closing also came with the planter, just like i had on my 4 row White planter. These spikes are like 2 1/4 inches long now, might of wore off a 1/4 inch. These work good, people talk about side wall compaction, these will take care of any of that, i think. The only problem i don't like about them, the bearings don't hold up well, dirt runs right on the bearing seals. Your look similar, but are different. I suppose you could look them up / Martins . I would say, 500 acres, bearing will give you trouble. Hope yours are built to eliminate that, but that hub, the bearing would be right there too. I don't see much difference between your new steel & the rubber one on there now. The spears on mine are straight.
rain everyday last year..cold this year..typical farming in Ky it's pick your flavor except this year it's been cool..usually in the 80's by now..maybe someday
The action shots from the planter were great Andy. Today here in Central Georgia my farmer friends have corn that is about 16" tall and they've already had to water it. It will be interesting to see how far behind our Northern friends are. :)
Replacing that whole unit would be costly, i use the same spring assembly. They only needed a couple of small brackets, bolts for each spike wheel. & a small thin pipe for over a bolt that the original wheel used. I think i like the design of mine better, for closing. Longer spikes. Martin they are called.
Good job Andy 👍 as soon as the soil warms up the corn will start grow you will know in the next 7 days and you'll find out if you put the rolls in straight line LOL 😅 well thanks Andy for sharing the video 👍🇺🇸
We switched our planter to yetter spiked closing wheels and phunematic row cleaners. The closing wheels break up side wall compaction and work great on notill. The row cleaners are excellent for moving trash and leaving a good seed bed. We went with cast wheels for longer wear . Here in michigan we have all of our corn planted and about 75 percent of our soybeans planted. We now have switched to sorghum for about 150 acres . We have oats and spring wheat to plant still . Nice video stay safe and farm on my friends !
It snowed like a bastard here in southern Maine on Saturday! Nice to see some corn going in the ground, curious to see how that new iron pans out especially the serrated opening wheels, they look real interesting
Watching the drone crash was like drinking a cold one on a roller coaster. Didn't spill a drop. Snow in may means mother nature is pissed with the clean air. Lol
Hey Andy, How many acres can you plant in a day? Do you see any difference planting corn east to west, to north & south? Thank you for your time, stay safe. 👍
Everyone around here in Nw Iowa have everything planted. It just has to warm up as alot of the corn is up but the temperature in the last 5 mornings has been in the 20's and lower 30's. You have some pretty awesome children as I was watching Andrew and had a hoot watching his video of his livestream and he was having trouble with his camera and he flagged Sarah down to help him and she fixed it and Sarah said don't say anything bad about me cuz I'll be listening to you LOL. They are Awesome and you should be Proud of them. Those 2 kids are split images of my 2 kids growing up. They started riding in the tractor when they were 1.5 yrs to 20 months old. And I paid them for helping me like watch gates while I cleaned with the skidloader as we had to clean everything weekly as we had hogs and a hoop building and I had bottle calves and different sizes up to 800 lbs. But my son bought a blue mustang a year before he had his temporary license or license that he could only drive to and from school. But when he got home he immediately did my chores and calf chores and would drive the Honda mini trail over to where I was maybe up to 10 miles away. Andrew will be a mini Andy, I can see it already !! Your videos are always interesting and informative Andy.
Yah it snowed in NY and buffalo got lake effect snow! hopefully its not much you can get everything planted. Did the alfalfa grow back this year can you harvest it again? What row cleaners do you have? thumbs up.
Do you just use the A-B contours and a little judgement for your endrows since you have no markers ? Sure do have a lot of attachments to play with , be interesting to see if anything really stands out to you ! Earlier than last year and still working in the snow ! Haha
