Hi. I'm a 15-year-old millennial and it just so happened that History piqued my interest. Just to share a thought, I know that Mr. Jose P. Laurel was the first president to declare Martial Law. My question is, why such information not taught to us? A primitive information like this should be permeated in conventions. This is like a missing link in our country's History

Our history textbooks were so busy glorifying Cory Aquino and Ninoy Aquino that they forgot to tell this fact, I suppose.

@@JayPabalat Yes and no?

I believed that the first declaration of martial law in the Philippines was on August 30,1898 by Gov. Gen Ramon Blanco Y Erenas.

@moondust2365 3 года назад
Yes, but Jose P. Laurel was the first Filipino President who declared martial law. In contrast to Ramon Blanco y Erenas who was a Governor-General appointed by Spain.

Well though it’s not based on where the proclamator came from, but it’s on what country the law has declared. So yes, Martial Law was first introduced as far back as 1896.

Martial Law is Martial Law, it speaks for itself. The only thing that defines it among others is not who declared it. It is justified by why its declared, is it necessary, what is it that it is protecting. How was it being implemented. Yes, there were declarations before Marcos, if there were injustice against the Filipino people, it will be told. If the Marcos regime didn't commit human rights violations and the Marcos family and their cronies didn't steal from the Filipinos. Then maybe Ferdinand Marcos won't be labeled as a Dictator.
