This was the first thing that popped into my mind. Dark bronze on silver always looks good. And while I think a glossy finish would look fine, I think more of a matte finish to the wheels would really set them off.
9:20 It’s called a multi-function display (MFD) 9:25 that would be an ETC card reader. Electronic ticket control for getting on to freeways in Japan. I took mine out because it’s annoying.
@@MrClarck100 cut a wire left of the pedals and pull from the top is the easy way. If you want to get the whole wire out then it should be grounded off of the headunit
@@yomorivas1034 If it's JDM you have to import it, unless you do an MCM, buy the car there and then have it shipped. Who they worked with is in the description.
Yup, I agree, maybe simple bolt-ons just to bring a little life to it, from what I see and think if the mods are easly reversible the value is barely affected, specially if period correct.
Haha, that little message when you turn on the car just says “the card is not inserted” it’s for the ETC (electronic toll collection) system used in japan. It’s kinda like the ETR transponders that we have here for the 407 except it’s an actual card that you insert in a electric slot for when you go through the toll booths
@@kenjiabeta266 oh, I saw a video on your channel of a white guy playing guitar and assumed it was you 😂. Want to start a Import/Export business with me ? 👀
Having been a Skyline owner for the last 14 years and seen loads in the owners club, I'm going to bet you are in for an interesting time under that slapped on underseal......I hope for your sake I'm wrong
You can definitely tell under the bonnet that it was modified then switched back to stock. just odd things like dinged Rocker cover and hose clamps in different positions
I came into the comments to look for this comment. I’ve seen how crafty they get to hide rust. I’d like to see in those spots under the carpet. The door sills in factory wrap make me think this cars has definitely had a gone through before it hit the auction.
I really hope it isn't for their sake, but being around them for the last 14 years there are so many alarm bells going off here. Given the price they are now, I still think they did okay, but I would allow another $10-20k or getting this fixed. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I don't want to come across as jealous over what they have, my current Skyline is an R34GTT, so not the same league, but they are coming off as woefully ill informed at the moment and I think there is a can of worms there. Can always be fixed. My other massive concern, if I heard it right, was they said they are using 94 octane fuel. These engines are made for 99 octane. I remember years ago on the skyline club forums an American guy who was over in Germany (dont think it was here in UK). He blew up 3 engines and was having a rant about how 'crap RB's are'. Turned out he was using some super low octane American crap fuel off the air base he was on. Rather expensive mistake.
Just wanted to correct you, those are not Regamaster Evo's they are Regamaster Marqius Promodas as Evo's have a flat center cap and MP's have the raised center.
So stoked for you guys, this R34 will be amazing and I hope it brings a lot of new viewers to the channel! You can count on me to watch and like every video that's for sure
9:20 That's the Electronic Toll Collection thing Look for a card reader with ETC written on it Just unplug that so it doesn't talk every time you start the car 🤣 (Or don't if you don't want to cuz I know some people who just like to leave it xD) I unplug it on all our vehicles as they are imported from Japan and we can't use it here
@@silentpowerYT xDD I mean it probably just different to me cuz all vehicles in my country are imported so I was just like eh screw that shit xDD also i mean its just 1 or 2 plugs under the dashboard its not hard to unplug/plug it back in
@@dawsonramdass1145 Yeah I am the same. I am glad that mine does not talk to me as the ETC reader is part of the rear vision mirror. I would like to get it swapped out because it is huge and blocks my vision to the left, but im sure it would be a hassle and probably need to be coded in.
Hate me all you want for saying this, but since you're going to replace the BEST LOOKING STOCK WHEELS OF ALL TIME with those... things... then I at least implore you to send the stock ones my way so that they may be preserved properly. The R-34 is my dream car as well, and I'm reduced to a simpering, sputtering mass of jell-o just thinking of those wheels being removed.
My GTR had that random undercoating as well.. I think its normal. I think some later model r34 gtrs (2001+) had less, was more exposed. Might also be an aftermarket thing they do in other parts of Japan where it snows. I had similar rust on mine, though i got it all removed. Diffuser is made out of Dry Carbon. The centre screen is called an MFD, The rear wheel steering is HICAS, not ATTESA. ;)
Nice, simple, period mods. Keep all the old bits just like you said. I would possibly go as far as getting different seats and steering wheel so you don't wear out the original ones. Looks so nice and original.
Tough choice on the wheel color. Definitely not black. White would make the car look too 90s in my opinion. Why not just color them the same color as the OEM ones? Looks like some type of nickel silver. Nice R34 and I look forward on following your journey with it.
Another vote for dark bronze on the wheels here. Though a hyperblack coating could look really good on a silver car like that. As for modding it reducing its value...ehhh, between your obvious excitement about this car, and the passionate following they have, I'd say just build it how you want. Unless you absolutely butcher it (something I have yet to see y'all do to a car), I wouldn't think it'll kill the value all that much, but in return, I feel like you'll enjoy it a whole lot more.
I have never been a lover of black wheels, I don’t like the way the design of the wheel gets lost, IMHO you may as well save money and put black steelies on🤦♂️. As for colour I would go for the Porsche Aurum gold, check out the 25 year anniversary Boxter in Silver with Aurum wheels👍
You gotta keep this mint man. You bought too nice an example to mod it. This is a collector car. Not a mod car. This car was garaged by a Japanese guy who really really loved it.
Well I have got to say, I love talking to you guys when you come into the shop. But the more I watch this video, I can't help but say. I hate you Pete. Can't wait for more videos. Keep up the good work.
Dude thinks that the original plastic on the doors sill from 20 years ago, poor guy. By looking at the shift knob you can tell a lot of parts has been replaced in the interior. That's not factory paint underneath the car, does repair damage either major rust… I recommend the check under the interior rug
Wow, I didn't realize how mint it actually is! I do feel how hard it would be to modify something that mint and original. I guess as long as you keep all the stock stuff and do reversible mods, but hey she's yours now!
I speak Japanese and it says “card has not been entered” when it starts up which I’m assuming refers to the card that lets you through tolls on Japanese highways.
i cant believe you buying your dream car and just letting it sit for a year before touching it, thats some strong will. its like having a supermodel of a girlfriend thats begging you to come lay in bed with her every night and saying no to that for over a year
Hats of to you two gentlemen for acknowledging and thanking your viewers and sponsors. As much as I want to see what mods you do to the GTR…given the cars condition and originality man I’m not sure I could bring myself to mod that one. I dig the rims that you stashed…I’d be inclined to do them a complementary gunmetal grey…I think that would maintain the 2000’s vibe and pop against the Silver.
I’ve been waiting for these builds since you guys announced them months ago. Can’t wait for the amazing content that is coming to the channel. Glad to see a GTR with something other than TE37’s. They are great wheels but it’s nice to see something different. Hope you enjoy your practically new GTR👍.
One of the best videos I've seen. Refreshing to hear the honest joy in Pete's voice when he was going over every bit of the car. Seems like many YT'ers just fake their excitement for views. Glad you could get one of these. Bummed you pulled off the side sill protective covers.
カードが挿入されていません。I confirm other's comments. It just means that the (ETC) card (for automatic instant debit on toll roads and highways) is not inserted. Almost every car here in Japan have this system installed although you still can find cars which don't use it even in 2021.
Oh that makes sense now! You said you bid on this when these were going for $75,000-$90,000 which was early last year! So you’ve had the car for over a year now and you were JUST able to get it to North America! That makes a LOT more sense hahaha cuz I was about to say $50,000 can barely buy you an R34 GTT now!
Please do not put an R154 transmission in the supra. V160 or T56 will do the car justice, having owned a 2jz r154 its a big difference in acceleration once i went T56. In terms of performance with the GTR hit up Andrew from motive video and PRP USA or Tomei (0.0) hint on your shirt. If you want to keep the twins and need some motivation rewatch the MINE's R34 GTR time attack car. Bronze for the wheels.
Unicorn is right! Pretty much stock R34 GTR, under $65k CAD, non- smoker car, original steering wheel/seats, with little rust. Nice purchase. So nice. PS...I still have the plastic on the sill plates on my Crown. Just can't take it off.
Pete, I have THE color for your GTR wheels! It's from Prismatic and it's called "Monaco Copper." I searched endlessly with my local powder coating shop to find this color; I was in a similar situation with a "Nightfall Grey Metallic" SS that usually gets black wheels amongst the community of owners. When I decided on a gold-ish/bronze color I faced a dilemma that I could see you facing as well. I wanted some contrast, but without being too bright like a "Spanish Gold," or too dark like a traditional bronze. "Monaco Copper" was the exact perfect balance IMO. Best of luck with this build, we're all rooting for you guys to bring our 90's dreams alive!
Cant believe how good that condition that is, there's so many cool features on there that I never knew about also it's nice the steering wheel is on the right side ;-)
HICAS is the rear wheel steering. ATTESSA is the "4WD" system. RWD until it detects it needs grip and sense power to the front wheels unlike a permanent 4WD scooby / evo as an example
OEM+ mods will not devalue the car, It'll brng it to life and increase the value. Love my 34R but it doesn't really feel like a "GTR" until it's a RB28. Sus out the dyno run of my car on my page if you guys are considering a OEM++ route.
MFD multi functional display I believe it’s called. Had a 92 gtr back in the day (BC). It was uninspiring stock but after some head work and a big single made 500 on dyno and due to stock oil pump left it at 400 and was a fun number for spirited Sunday rips mated with a tomei cat back 🤙🏻. Was super reliable and did not burn a drop of oil (135k on motor). Congrats on your car
