First Drive of our MGB GT V8 Conversion. Yes the car finally left the garage... It was brief!
Join me on the journey of rebuilding converting an MGB GT to V8 which is a joint project with a dear friend of mine. Its a Jet Black 1970 MGB Chrome Bumper model. Originally fitted with an 1800 B Series now on its way to being built out with a 3.5L Rover V8 and an LT77 5 speed gearbox.
In this video we see if the replacement temp sensor works and if it will finally move under its own power and actually leave the garage for the first time in two years!
Its a factory order car as all Jet Black ones were and a one year only interior.
These are the final stages of this project but should be fun and adding another dimension to the wurks!

Yeah really pleased with, Y pipe, single box and single exit. Got a number of things still to address but the list is getting shorter..

This sounds absolutely amazing. I and my dad are in a similar situation. We have a 1973 MGB GT, however, we have been slowly stripping it for refurbishment over the past year. I would really like to swap it to the same V8 you are using out of the P5B rover. Despite this, I am a 17-year-old kid still learning about cars and was wondering what sort of adaptions or changes you had to make to the car in order for it to be suitable for the rover V8, for example, any chassis strengthening or welding or a change in the rear axel etc. Much appreciate if you could get back to me, once again the car sounds amazing.

What temp sender did you use?

Hi, originally it was a GTR 106 i believe but way out of wack with the guage. In the end to have the appropriate oil pressure guage too weve fitted a mgbv8 spec capillary dual guage and that works a treat.

@@davidgerrard8661 yeah id be hesitant to trust a gauge alone. We got a thermocouple reader, some multi meters come with that function and a £20 digital laser temp reader. Place thermocouple in the top hose and run it. You can monitor head surface temp with the digital reader and see when the stat opens etc
