The problem is that speed stops increasing and rolling is too powerful and now limit is "I reached the level where I cannot see the pieces because colors are glitched"

Score uncap reduces the amount of time spent in the score calculation, so it would not have crashed. It takes thousands more lines to crash the game with old one-code uncaps, and Fractal's two-code uncap optimizes it enough to never crash. (edit: Oh, I see the fixed level counter too, this is probably Tetris Gym, which also does not crash.)

@@TaikoChirai We know the answer because of game software performance analysis. When the player reaches a high level, the score calculation is slow. If the game lags, it has a chance of crashing because of a "race condition" bug. The software analysis results were recorded in a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet explains strategies for avoiding the game crash. The earliest condition that will crash the game is to erase a single line when progressing from Level 154 to Level 155.

What's a rollover?

@@user-ib9je5tq7n A rollover in tetris is when you break the hexadecimal score counter. Hexadecimal in tetris is A = 1.0 Million B = 1.1 Million C = 1.2 Million And so on. When you reach F, and you get a higher score than that, you get a rollover.

1.6 million points, its when the hexadecimal runs out of letters to display the score, it rolls over back to 0@@user-ib9je5tq7n

It's a bit disingenuous to say that it helped "make it easier" when all it really did was raise the skill ceiling.

@@Schnozinski I see your point yet I tend to disagree that it has raised the skill level instead of making it easier. I have watched several videos by game scout and others who have looked at the rolling technique and the one uniting factor behind them all is that it increases the chances of accurately placing pieces because it improves the speed of the controller and allows the player to shift pieces around the playing area slightly faster which makes it easier to get the tetromino across the board and into place. I know this is basic language but that is basically what happens. However, there is a skill in mastering the rolling technique and placing pieces. One of Jonas's best attributes was his ability to accurately place the tetrominos as well burn down very quickly when he needed to. I am not saying there is no skill involved I am saying it has made the higher scores easier to get. If that wasn't the case you wouldn't get tappers converting to rolling.

@@trevorgibb1019 i don't see the problem. it's not cheating, but rather a different style of play. if you want to be the best you'd adopt any strategy you can, within bounds of course, to get better. also the guy above was talking about skill ceiling not skill level.

I wonder if the strat to get past that level will be to turn up the brightness really really really high so that the top-left corner of the blocks is more visible? That might help for some of the earlier colors too (like level 146). Man it's so crazy that it's possible to make it this far!

it's because the memory runs out and starts pulling the color palette from spillover data pulled from the rest of the game. It does through the entire sprite list of borders, letters, symbols, etc.
