This song is such a troll and meme-y song, but that's what made it a global hit. No one who's alive and breathing in 2012 haven't heard of this song. I have always heard people say, "Oh, I don't know KPOP, but I know Gangnam Style." The song, the dance step, and even his whole look became viral. Internet culture wasn't this much crazy in 2012, but he was able to pull it off. It was the first ever video on RU-vid that surpassed 2 BILLION VIEWS and it happened only 2 YEARS after it was released. PSY is indeed a legend. He still has so much banger up to this day. He's got the wildest crowds whenever he does concerts too. He was signed with YG Ent. (BP's label atm) when this got released. He now has his own label and is still active in producing and making music.

Gangnam is like the Beverly Hills of S. Korea and he's basically parodying it or kinda making fun of it, also Psy use to be with YG (Blackpinks company) Psy, BigBang, 2ne1 & few others are the foundation for YGs success. PS...BigBang are kings of kpop try to check them out

The red haired girl HyunA is an established K-Pop star (ex Wonder Girls, 4 Minute, various collaborations and as a soloist) who is well worth checking out on her own- very different from the other K-pop female artists you have reviewed to date. For Psy video’s you should see Daddy next it’s his funniest video, song is a complete banger and it has a feature from another female K-pop legend, the baddest female CL (arguably the best female K-pop rapper, though she doesn’t rap in that song).

YG is the coolest music label in South Korea. There are differences from other record labels that cannot be liberated from Korean culture. But YG doesn't stick to the same things and trying to open the door to the outside world. Therefore, YG's artists are of interest to Europe and America. PSY and Blackpink come from the same house. YG Entertainment

This song is the first video that reached 1B views on RU-vid on 2012 I remember that day they changed the icon of RU-vid and put PSY dancing instead for one day

Admittedly, I also knew of the chorus but had never heard whole song or seen video until your reaction. So, thanks for that Saucey! I was perhaps traumatized by seeing my senior boss do this dance down the hallway at work 10 yrs ago - some things you can't unsee. The lady dancing with him from the bus till the end is called hyuna she is a solo artist under pnation (under psy) and other artist like Jessi, crush, dawn... She is also well known in korea because of her unique style (btw she is engaged by dawn) plz react to "who DAT b" by jessi.

You should also check out the red head girl from the train scene, her name is Hyuna and she is an idol also. (Admittedly, I like her older stuff better than her new) There is a Gangnam Style remix that features her singing.

Parody of him wanting to find a wealthy rich lady, who demurely drinks coffee by day while at night she's wild in a club; and he's just the man for her, like the guy in the yellow suit driving his red convertible!!!! All about excess. There is an English subtitled one, just search for it; Then compare to That That with Psy featuring Suga (from BTS). These two back to back show why kpop set the standard.

I remember my cousin showed me it when it was trending a long time ago and I thought it was such a weird video. But everyone wasn't doing the dance at my school. But after listening to it time to time, It's not bad of a song - just weird dance moves. It's still my favorite Psy music though.

You are right, PSY is a legend. I think he has his own label. This is a very early like first HUGE sensation in K-pop! And you CAN see why. It's a vibe. It's infectious. Mostly because it's THAT specific guy, doing hilariously over the top attics he was known for. This thing hit so hard when it dropped that I think it was only a matter of weeks before it was a sketch on Saturday Night Live, about how amazing this song was. And all of the actors came out & did those moves. For a Korean artist to hit so hard that it is literally heard AROUND the world overnight was UNHEARD OF!!! As for his comedy hits style, I guess Weird Al Yankovic might be the closest western artist to this style.

Has anyone suggested SECRET NUMBER? They have a lot of the surprises, hip hop, dancing, rapping, HARD beat drops, beautiful singy parts, & just really hard badassery in their songs/performances. Rapping vocals are great, music videos are very high end, beats are catchy. They debuted with 5 members, then added a 6th and a 7th member. Jinny is the main rapper. DOOMCHITA, Rainism or HOLA (there is an entire dance choreo video of all 7 members dancing this entire song together) would be good starts. Doomchita may be the most expensively produced video that may appeal to western eyes most. They flew in and went straight from airport to stage to dance perform a small medley at KCON 2022 Saudi Arabia. Fans went crazy in love with them. But there's LOONA, MONSTA X, GOT7, TWICE, MOMOLAND, ATEEZ, NCT, Red Velvet, Girls' Generation, WEEKLY, STRAY KIDS, BIG BANG, .. IVE is a newer one. I'm just impressed that Western audiences are just now getting into them. Each one is it's own rabbit hole with crazy fans all over the world. And you've only barely just touched Aespa and ITZY. You gotta see the ITZY MV for"Wannabe" just to see the shoulders choreography that so many fans hurt themselves trying to copy. When you see it, you'll be saying why would you try to do that? They DO all make it look so easy tho.
