First EVER run West of Carmarthen for the 'Flying Banana' 07/02/2014.

I ventured out to West Wales this morning to record the first EVER run of the Network Rails NMT High Speed Train known as the 'Flying Banana' west of Carmarthen.
It worked the 1Z20 Derby to Derby via Milford Haven. I decided to capture it at Haverfordwest, which is on the Branch from Clarbeston Road to Milford Haven, where is was scheduled to wait for a passenger service from Milford haven to clear the section. 43014 was leading, and 43062 was trailing.
I then went Eastwards to Clarbeston Road, which is the junction to Fishguard Harbour, and captured it coming in past the West Box at Clarbeston Road, where after a brief wait for a Westbound passenger, the HST accelerates Eastwards and back to Derby.
So with a rare sunny day at the moment, and a very rare event, a very good day was had by all.

Nice catch Bob and how nice it is to hear the springtime birds singing - spring is on the way! As always this is a great production and like you, I do appreciate these NMT visits to Kilmarnock and they really do get around the system as you said recently' especially "John Armitt". How luxurious to have a HST measuring Train !!! Although it's probably stripped inside to house all the electrical equipment !!! A great catch Bob, in some very nice local Stations. I also noticed like Andre the different shades of yellow on some of the carriages. We also had a 'Weather window ' today, it didn't last long before the wet stuff arrived at tea time. cheers....Steve.

This HST is designed for the High Speed Main Line runs all over the UK Steve, and covers enormous mileages during a year. Packed full of electronics, and great to be able to capture this Historic event.....Regards...Bob

Great film Bob. We have the loco-pulled measurement trains here in Indiana and the surrounding states. Some of the eastern and northeastern states have high-speed units; alas, like Dave Howarth, we never get an opportunity to see them in our region. Enjoyed this one. Dave

Cool train. Nice catch. Well filmed and edited. I was the whole week busy to customize my new computer and my new computer sound system. Today I am finally ready and your yellow banana had the honour to hammer it's nice diesel sound over my new speakers. Wow! All the money and all the trouble of the last week with my new equipment was worth it. My new sound system has a subwoofer. Even with moderate adjustment of the bass it was amazing to hear the bass of that diesel engine. I can confirm, that your camera-microphone is very good..... :-) Thumbs up! :) Greetings Mega

Well, a decent day for it. Nice closeups; the two coaches in the middle seem to be painted in 'front end yellow', which you can see on the power cars is a slightly different shade.

It was the calm between the storms Andrei, it's been raining with strong winds since 15.00 today, so I was very lucky to get this run. Many of the coaches run by Network Rail are in different sgaes of yellow, which is strange considering that the Corporate image is so important these days......Bob

This unit normally works the Main Lines Dave, through York, Leeds etc, but wouldn't do Scarbrough or your part of the world...thet would be done by loco hauled trains or the 150 unit....often over night when it's quieter....Bob

Nice locations Bob, it is great to see the train in such detail as you managed to get at Haverfordwest, excellent coverage. Lovely shot at Clarbeston too, am I right in thinking that the staff in the rear power car handed the token back here?

Thanks Justin, I wanted to catch it as far West as I could, but also getting more than one shot, so this was as much as I could do with such little time between places on the Milford Branch. As to the token, there was only one driver on this train plus the technical staff, the driver got out at Clarbeston Road, so probably exchanged it then.....Bob

Robert Masterman Just watched it again and the set has come a long way into Clarbeston Sta before stopping, its a bit strange why the driver didn't stop actually at the signal box to hand the token back. I don't know if there's a different procedure for Milford trains, but on the loco hauled I rode 10 yrs ago to Fishguard, the driver would pull up the 37 right by the box for exchange.

This unit has been around some time Dave, and gets about all over the Country....this is a NMT HST...New Measurement Train and Ex High Speed Train....This weather was just a brief respite, as the rest of the day has been heavy rain and strong winds...Bob
