First Experience on Japanese Trains in Tokyo! 

Aww we love that!! There were so many people sleeping on the trains so it’s fun to hear your mom does/did that too!

Wow we haven’t been here too long but this is exactly how we are feeling! You have a great way with words! We went to shibuya sky and couldn’t believe our eyes!!

In my experience, Tokyo is largely overrated. There are many much more beautiful and interesting places in Japan. As a tourist and new to Japan, Tokyo is of course a mandatory stop. It is also a good place to start your stay in Japan as it usually begins in Tokyo.

We are looking forward to when we can ride the Shinkansen! That’s so cool! What fun experiences I’m sure your family has seeing each other and traveling in Japan together! 😊

Haha we can understand that! It’s a lot being in a new place with a different language. Thankfully they have English signs to help. 😊 Willa is not in school yet but she will be starting a Japanese school in April.

We actually haven’t seen the children on the trains do that, but I’m sure we will soon. So fun to learn and see the politeness. Great tip about the backpack!

In my experience I never noticed that. Normally the parents make sure that the children did not step onto the seats with their feet. In general, the Japanese are very careful not to cause offense. However, it is also unusual to criticize others and let it be known that you are disapproving of certain behaviour.

That is the Meiji Shrine + Yoyogi Park cos they are right next to Shibuya. that is a true forest in the middle of downtown whereas the Shinjuku Gyoen has a luge lawn and relatively fewer trees

You are only seeing some of the JR lines in the stream cos they are above ground. There are a few more JR lines running underground and many more metro lines connecting to Tokyo Station from underground (though the station for metro lines is called "Otemachi" rather than "Tokyo")

The english language skills in Japan are for the most part low. Even in large hotels in Tokyo, the staff are quickly overwhelmed if anything goes beyond the memorized English sentences. But it depends from the area. In rural areas english did not work at all. One of the reasons for this is that hardly any English is spoken in class. In addition, many Japanese people never travel abroad and therefore do not need english language skills. It's a bit like in the US, where foreign language skills are often very poor because you simply don't need them.

Yes here where we live there are more individuals speaking English but still… we are using Google translate quite frequently!

Asia is quite big and diverse. Japan, South Korea and Singapore are for instance not India, Pakistan or Central Asia states or the Middle East and Iran. The Catholic Christian Philippines have a more lively/louder/open culture than Thailand, Japan, Malaysia etc... and btw: technically even Europe is part of Asia - the border/continent is rather more political/historical which often results in to name the whole thing Eurasia.

@@publicminx There are similarities between some asian cultures, but there are many big differences too. I know Japan and South Korea very well and it's not the same. When foreigners mix it up, it is offensive to Japanese and Koreans.

​ @wizardm only stupid people get offended if foreigners mix things up due to a lack of knowledge. smart ppl reflect that there is a lack of knowledge and can differ intentions from that. btw, this is true for most/all cultures. and it is also true for individual ppl (everyone also represents its own culture). idiots: easy to offend. smart and more evolved ppl: not! apart from that, yay, there are differences but the difference between Afghanistan and Japan is bigger (and more significant) than Southkorea to Japan (the cultural impact on each other is also different which every oine could see by the exchange of kpop, manga, anime etc.). and the main topic was about general differences within Asia. there are also differences between Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland. In reality such differences are close to irrelevant compared to the differences to other cultural spheres. that most people like stereotypes and bla bla about every minor differences (like between Bavaria in Germany and Berlin or Tirol and Vienna or Texas to California or US vs. Canada etc.) should not bias to much the view on the grand scheme of things ...

In Japan you hear very often such Jingles in public, for a foreigner from Europe or USA its weird but you quickly get used to it and no longer consciously notice it.

We enjoyed it but can see how it would not be enjoyable haha!

That makes sense to us after living here because they are in quite a bit of places!
