First impressions of EDIUS 11

David, je me permets une question, ne trouvant pas la solutiion. J'ai toujours utilisé Mync et sa bibliothèque. J'ai fait le transfert de la bibliothèque de Mync 10 à Mync 11 et ça bien fonctionné. J'avais l'habitude de sauvegarder cette bibliothèque en copiant les dossiers se trouvant dans Utilisateurs/prénom/Appdata/Roaming/Mync. Est-ce que cette procédure est toujours valable, ou bien faut-il sauvegarder d'autres fichiers.? Je considère que la seule sauvegarde du disque C est insuffisante. @@mouchoircarre7744 My french does not extend beyond Merci and Google translate so I will reply in English. At the moment I do not know where the Mync database is stored or how to back it up in EDIUS 11. When I find out I will include it in a video.

As I mention in the video I am do not know that the green dots will return but I assume they will and it will be like the job monitor with EDIUS X which was refined and added to with subsequent updates. However, if they are essential I would say don't upgrade until they are actually there - just like all software I don't believe in new features until I actually see them. EDIUS has not had any indication about identical clips in the bin and works completely differently to most editing programs. In Resolve/Premiere if you delete a clip from the bin it deletes it from the timeline; in EDIUS if you delete all the bins the timeline remains intact. So I don't know if the database would even look at duplicates in the bin in the same way. If I want to clean up the bins I generally just delete everything and then add all the clips in the timeline back to the bins (just select the lot and drag them to a bin).

I just want a UI that lets me work fast, with the minimum number of clcks.

I think I mention in the video that this is not currently in the bin. Nor is the column "timeline reference count". These will hopefully be added back in the future but we do not have a timescale.

I use Resolve as well and it does have lots of nice stuff but I still find the most basic editing generally requires a lot more clicks to achieve the same things, which is time consuming.

A lot of the basics are the same - the core editing of EDIUS is the best bit IMO. But I use the new stuff a lot so would not want to go back to EDIUS 8.

This video is intended for people who have EDIUS and are looking at upgrading. The best things for me about EDIUS is the way it works - simple, clean and quick - which I don't go into. This is meant to show people thinking of upgrading what the upgrade does so they can make their own mind up whether to buy it or not. Comparison to Resolve is fair and if you look at my channel I also use that and do videos on that. Comparison to FCP is not. EDIUS works on PC only. If you want to go to FCP you have also to buy am Apple Mac, so a pretty hefty price tag.

@@dvcltd First, thanks for all your posts. I am always learning something new. You are a gifted teacher, and I am a subscriber to your channel, so keep up the good work. I use Edius from the time of Canopus Corporation and Hiro Yamada-san. Many years of editing with Edius, but in the last 2 years I use it just for Multi Cam. Resolve and FCPX are better choice for me. I was expected a price drop for the upgrade to Edius XI. Comparison with both Resolve and FCPX is fair because top 3 editing software in 2023 are Premiere, Resolve and FCPX. Apple Mini M1 and M2 are not so expensive and thanks to hardware encoder/decoder of all new codecs, Apple minis are better than most of the PCs. I have a Intel 13900k with RTX3090 and a Mini M2 Pro. I speak from experience. Sorry if I'm disappointed by Grass Valley. Maybe is just me ...

@@studiodevis Good points, all very reasonable. I am a PC guy and dabbled with FCP7 many years ago then gave up. I have never used FCP X. The other programs I do use are Resolve and Premiere. If you are talking value for money you can't beat the free version of Resolve which does an amazing amount for free. Despite that my favourite for actual editing is still EDIUS and I guess GV will have to do more to tempt you back.
