All those ashes you saw on different ghats were not - cremation ashes - but some kind of fire-ash left over after a ceremony......cremation happens only at specific places /ghats - all across India.......did you think we'd be burning a dead body anywhere ?

The one who are cremated on this land at Varanasi, directly reaches Lord Shiva. You are blessed, you had touch of ashes. India is land of karma.
