I'm going to agree with you Bradley these "special" blends solely exist to play on pipe smoker's tobacco addiction disorder. I'll give it a miss as I have some regular plumb pudding cellared.
Usually about halfway through the bowl, I have to push the poker into the tobacco. Gets really dense, for me at least. You are not wrong about having to work at rubbing it out. I personally really like this blend.
Update: I am under the weather today so I have not smoked the SR yet but I went ahead and jarred it up and did a side by side jar note comparison to the standard PP. I don't have the best sniffer but the side by side really helped me. The SR has a much sweeter smell and for the first time raisins jumped right out and was very pronounced. I hear people say they smell raisins or stewed fruits a lot but this is the first time I have experienced it.
Haven't tried any of the Plum Pudding special blends. The original Plum Pudding is an excellent blend which I enjoy, can't see where the subtle changes in the special blends would make that much difference. I am however looking forward to your final review of this blend.
Get an "herb" grinder. It will improve your rubbing out of the tobacco. I use one that I've had for years from when I was younger. Totally worth the small expense. And as to why there are so many variations, I'm betting it has to do with FDA and "licensing" new blends. Why start a new IP when you can just remix an existing blend, it's probably a cheaper option for the producer. Just my thoughts.
I enjoy plum pudding but I’m not buying this gimmick, you said it best in your past video, they are milking that cow. That being said, I do like the barrel aged version because it’s different enough that I can justify having both in my rotation. But, more power to them, anything coming out in the pipe and tobacco world is welcomed by me, if these are selling that is great!
Honestly they all taste the same to me.I’ll stick with the standard PP which in my opinion is the best. I really hate throwing money away on quote “special blends “ . Enough is Enough already! Great vid Bradley
Most likely he won't review that blend as it's too far into the spectrum of aromatic for his tastes. That being said, I've been smoking it lately to change things up and I've been enjoying it. Toppings aren't overkill and the underlying tobaccos are nice when they come through.
