Supertramp was the prog band that could write a seriously catchy hook; their songs are both clever and fun. With "Give a Little Bit," the hook and the smooth joy of the song have picked me up when not much else could have. "School" and "Bloody Well Right" open their concept album _Crime of the Century_ and are musically brilliant. More Supertramp, Daniel; please!

Back in 1979 this song would come on the radio about every 10 minutes. Not that anyone minded. Supertramp were an excellent band, and built their brand around the distinctive sound of the Wurlitzer electric piano that few other bands were using in the mid-late 70s. Great song, off of a great album.

Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.

Breakfast In America is a perfect album front to back. Always loved the guitar solo in this... Roger Hodgson was always just known by many as one of their keyboard playing lead singers (he was piano and vox on "Take The Long Way Home") but he was their lead guitar. He's really been a great underrated guitarist. "The Logical Song" would be the next logical (sorry lol) pick from this album.

I agree! As much as I love Supertramp, I never liked the lyrics to this song. I always felt he had a huge amount of disdain for whoever he is speaking to in the song! It's fun, musically, and I don't think I've ever "skipped it", but it still makes me uncomfortable!

I love this band, all of their music is great. I appreciate the human elements of finger snapping and whistling it. It really adds an "alive or casual factor" and taking away the studio sterility I often feel in official videos. He is a musician on the road, the one night stand is just business in so many ways. He is fulfilling someone else's fantasy but for him, it is just another night of winding down after the intense rush of doing a show. Thank you for reacting to this great band and song.

I saw Rodger Hodgson tour with Ringo Starr in 2001 (same tour with Greg Lake). Great lineup that included Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople), Lake, Hodgson, Howard Jones, Sheila E. and Mark Rivera (Billy Joel's band). The 2 Supertramp songs they performed were "The Logical Song" and "Give a Little Bit". I needed to jog my Swiss Cheese memory, and it doesn't like cardio.

The outro guitar solo is a masterclass in simplicity feeling like perfection, possibly aided by the tension that was built through the song. The initial single note played over 8 or 16 bars is reminiscent of The Who’s I Can See For Miles (which had a single note as the entire solo).

The lyrics works perfectly fine on the surface as a relationship story, or lack thereof, but in later years I've come to see it also, on a deeper level, as someone leaving a drug-filled or drug-fueled life, because of the clever use of the names Mary and Jane.
