You made a good choice. The EV6 is rated pretty good. You shouldn’t have the quality issues of a Tesla. Most of your charging will probably be done with a level 2 charger, at home . You really don’t need the fast charging for day to day driving. It’s nice to have though for unexpected trips etc.

We just finished a 10,000 plus mile, 6 week road trip in our Ioniq 5. Starting the trip like you, I thought that I would just use the CarPlay and Apple Maps for navigation, but because the turn by turn directions show up in our heads up display I decided to use the Hyundai on board navigation (same as the Kia) instead and grew to prefer it over the Apple. Here are the things that I like. First you have a segment on the side of the screen that shows the three next navigation points and the miles ahead. It's great to know a few moves ahead. There are three tabs on the top of that. Detailed, which shows the navigational points along the route that are non essential. Rest Stops, which shows all the rest stops on the route, really good to know. The last tab is simple, which tells you the next three instructions that you need to know. On this part of the screen there is a light gray area on the side. If you press on that the navigation instruction screen moves left and you have a small screen that you can scroll up and down. It has many things. My favorite is the compass screen that has an analog compass, with the longitude and latitude and the elevation in real time, it also has a clock screen, a screen that shows the state of charge, range and distance to the nearest charger, and a screen that shows the current music source playing in your car including Apple Music. As far as programing it. I found that asking it to find any location without typing was a least as good and Apple and typing in a point of interest worked 99% of the time. The only thing I like better about Car Play is being able to click on a link and have it go right to navigation. Love your content, keep it up.

Girl, lemme tell ya what....Three weeks before I took delivery of my ID4, I decided I should probably drive one. I went to the dealer I was having mine delivered to and took one on an eight mile test drive. Not only my first ID4 drive, but **my first ever EV drive.** Fast forward to getting my car. I took delivery on a Friday and the following Friday I road tripped it to southern North Carolina. 424 miles. Jumped into EV life with both feet charged. 9 months and 14k miles later and I'd drive it across the country without any worries. 10% battery at the charger is the norm. And your small peeve is mine too. If they'd get rid of that app to charge necessity I'd be even better off. Plug and play is the way. And as much as I dearly love my ID4, they really are going to have to step up range and charging speed if I'm going to buy another VW. I road trip the snot out of mine and other makers are already WAY out pacing mine.

You don't have to touch your phone at all. Using android auto or carplay, open the EA ON THE CAR SCREEN... it will recognize that you're at a station based on your location...then you select the cable number you're going to use and swipe to start... you then get out, plug in and it starts up and goes.

Hi Shannon. You asked what the longest road trip people have taken in their EV. Last year, just before Labor Day, my wife and I drove from San Jose CA to San Diego for a family function. After that was over, we left San Diego and drove to Manchester TN for a running race I had entered (A Race For The Ages). When the race was over, we drove back to San Jose. Total mileage was a bit over 5000 miles. I drove at or a little above the speed limit the entire distance. For some reason, Electrify America had free charging for us the week of Labor Day so energy cost was around $100 for the trip. There was a couple of hiccups. Oklahoma has chargers called "Francis". I wasn't impressed. EA had removed one station that I had planned to stop at. Had to use a level 2 charger to get to a DC Fast Charger the next day. That fiasco was mostly my fault. Other than that, it was a great way to drive across the country. Your comment about the lack of charging infrastructure for a trip to Maine is still appropriate for some other parts of the country. But, those areas are becoming fewer and fewer. And unlike ICE vehicles, if there's a plug, there's a good chance we can get enough charge to continue the trip. My maximum range in my rear wheel drive premium extended range Mach E on any trip I've taken is just over 330 miles (EPA 300). I've driven it up to 320 miles and still had 15 miles on the range estimate. (A round trip from home so no, it wasn't all downhill with the wind behind me) Glad you're getting more subscribers. You deserve a lot of credit for putting out your own perspective on driving an EV.

I live in a southwestern suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I've taken my MME to Chicago, Detroit, NYC, and Ellicotville NY for a sub-zero ski weekend. Electrify America (and even EVGo) do a great job for those trips! NYC was the furthest for us 462 miles each way with a 50 minute McDonald's recharge midway. You're absolutely correct about some CCS charging deserts prohibiting non-Tesla travel. West Virginia is a dead zone with zero DCFCs! They had ONE single DCFC (Astorg Auto), but it's broken now. So until Elon opens up the three Superchargers along I-77, the MME isn't going to Myrtle Beach anytime soon... That EV6 is amazing, and your charge rate was stellar! Mine maxes out at 150 (and almost never stays there very long) so I was thrilled to see your next gen Kia doing that much better! Cool video, and I hope the rest of your trip is/was fantastic for you all!

I've also noticed some issues with Apple Car Play. On a 2 hour trip to Maine, carplay just shut down. The port seemed like it was totally dead and nothing we did worked (we were on the road and could not stop at that time). The radio worked fine, just no connection via the USB port. I agree withe the sound system it is great with windows closed and when it is loud but when you lower the volume it really leaves a lot to be desired but it is adequate for my purposes. The nav took me a long time to adjust to but it is working well now since the latest update so you may want to try it. Sounds like a fun trip. You asked about other road trips. We drove our MME GT from Boise, Idaho to the Bay Area, then down to Santa Monica, and back to Boise. 2,200 miles. 16 DCFC's (14 of which were are EA chargers with no issues). Cost was less than 1/2 of gasoline in our other car (Audi Q3). Fantastic trip and MME GT was so fun to drive. BlueCruise did great - at one point drove 2 hours on rural Interstate without touching pedals or steering wheel. Averaged 2.8 miles/kWh (which is just about EPA highway rating) going an average of between 70-75 mph. Enjoy!

I have done somewhat the reverse trip on 2 separate occasions with our AWD EV6. Our trip takes us from NYC to our Va beach home stopping at the same Wawa in New Castle De, as you did. to charge up to 80%. They have both 150 and 350 chargers.. I have used both the 350 and 150, surprisingly did not save much time over the two possibly a couple minutes at most, though in honesty I was starting at more than 55% on arrival. Just a side note going down on the first leg I was getting 4 kWh/mi second leg 3.8 kWh/mi with air and cooling seats, could have made it easily to my destination of 280 mi though my wife was not wanting to try it. One side note we must of hit the same storm you did with the hail and torrential downpours on the NJ Turnpike . I must say the car handled admirably where as many cars turned onto the shoulder of the Turnpike, we were able to continue with full control and safely deal with the rain and road conditions while having full control of the vehicle at all times . However my range did suffer on this return trip dropping to 3.4 kWh on our second leg home while using AWD in Ipedal and climate control. Just a small suggestion, download your EA app into your apple or google wallet, makes the transaction with EA EVSE units more seamless. Just tapping RFID reader from apple wallet and the system is up and running in less than 30 seconds. True not as seamless as the Tesla, but it works. Have a great time on your road trip hope to see more videos on your adventure home.

I have the EV6 First Edition (numbered 723), and my paperwork list the car as a Wind/GT- Line. The body is a Wind with all the options you can get in a GT- Line, sunroof and all the goodies. But because the body is a Wind the suspension is not as stiff as the GT-Line and I missed that, so I might have to go after market for that stiffer ride. Other than the soft ride, I love this car and will get the electrified Stinger when they come out in a few years if they're as good as my EV6 First Edition.

There's still some things the Tesla just gets right over the Kia. It was definitely on my short list but the Model Y has more interior space, more usable range and that charging network is number 1. I'm hoping that they open up their network soon and that's going to be a game changer for other EVs being able to go longer distances across the country.

And there are some things the Kia just gets right over the Tesla. I considered a Model Y but the Kia has more than enough interior space for a family, Australian market EV6s have more range than similarly priced Model Ys, and the Tesla charging network in my region is no better. Then there is the EV6's far better ride quality, important for carsick kids. A proper roof and ventilated seats so the family isn't constantly baking under a relentless sun in a hot climate. Quieter driving. Much longer warranty. I like the EV6 style better, though that is subjective. Different priorities.

2,500+ miles round France in my EV6 GT Line S in May; some thoughts: The on board Satnav is actually pretty good, never needed to use Google Maps or Apple Maps The Meridian system on the GT Line S is absolutely fantastic - theres no need to try to tinker with settings Charging infrastructure in Europe is more than good enough - Ionity mostly (equivalent of EA in Europe) - spent less than 4 hours charging in 2,500 miles. 130kph (81 mph) makes a dent in economy, but who wants to spend their road trip at 60mph?

Awesome video. The EV6 although a very nice EV is still not the level of Tesla's as far as charging infrastructure is concerned and in addition, I'm not a fan of it's looks.

@@youngchirp12 Yeah, but I bet all these other EVs will have this feature in 6 months through software updates as well. It doesn't sound to difficult to implement, it's just mostly cool and original that Tesla cam up with it, but it definitely won't stay a Tesla-exclusive for long.

Same goes for charging infrastructure, which is one of the biggest advantages of owning a Tesla over other EVs at the moment, but that also won't be for long anymore. In a year or so, charging options will be so widely available that Tesla's own charging infra will no longer be (as a significant of) an advantage. Most definitely not over here in Europe.

Nice video but to not be able to charge my car on the road is a definite negative and why I will keep my Tesla for the foreseeable future.

Most people don’t know what they are doing. You don’t need to open the app. All you need to do is have the ea pass in apple wallet wallet then tap phone on rfid symbol if pass doesn’t come up tap on your pass tap phone and it will start. No need to look for the number on top of charger or swipe on app. So many RU-vidrs don’t know how to do it and make videos about how hard it is when it isn’t.

True fact however I have found that if I try and do the Wallet technique, it’s a 50/50 chance it fails so I just have defaulted to using the app and so far it’s 100% success rate on the EV6

An EV is not something I would want to take on a roadtrip that requires charging between point A and B. I don't want to have to plan on locating a charging station and waist time sitting. Especially in the middle of the night. Gas stations are everywhere unlike EV charging stations which aren't everywhere and then if the chargers are occupied you may be waiting a long while or the stations may be out of order. Also if you run out of gas you can walk or Uber to a gas station and get a gallon of gas or call AAA to bring you some. With an EV you have to call a tow truck. With that said. I think an EV is a great daily driver or for small short trips to areas you are familiar with. A plug in hybrid with at least a 50 mile all electric range would be the perfect vehicle. You have the best of both worlds. 50 miles all electric would be enough to fit most peoples daily needs and barely use any gas. For road trips you are not bound to the pains of planning your trip around charging your vehicle.
