First look : 2022 Kenworth T680 NextGen POV Driving 

Im 19 bouta be 20 this year and im honestly blessed that ima join the trucking industry in a time where all theese big rigs have automatic transmission shifting always looked hard i would be afraid of grinding it plus all those safety features and car will let you know when something is wrong i hope i get to drive this exact model its the best outa the competition 🔥🔥

Thanks for the video! Heard you say that truck was a FedEx spec’d truck which is very useful to contractors thinking about buying that truck. Can you maybe, go over the different packages or features that companies like FedEx want on their trucks ie. WFX, CFI, Schinder, Total etc. TIA

Any change to engine mounts and soundproofing in the next generation compared to prior model years or is that the same? The stereo is different but what about speakers? Looks like my next company truck'll be one of these. Got to choose color but everything else's be spec'd by company. Got to hop in a non-company spec prior gen for a couple days, Cummins. Compared to current '19 Freightliner New Cascadia : ----- PROS > Smoother operating drive line - shifts were smoother by miles. - The behavior of the auto-shift when backing, turning and at low speed is more predictable. - Noticed a slight shimmy, but that's probably truck specific. I've been in other New Cascadias that exhibited a shimmy or a bit of a wobbliness that mine does not exhibit So I think things like that are down to the specific truck and what it's been through and how it's been maintained. > A very solid and stable feel when I go down the road. The Cascadia feels a bit lighter and it seems to be inclined to bouncing round a bit more maybe. > The suspension, especially on very rough sections of the road, is by far better able to isolate the truck from the roadway surface. It's much smoother riding and the difference is greater when the road gets really. uneven or at the onset to overpasses and such. > The stereo seems to have more power and is of a differnet model than what was in the Cascadia, though it is of the same make. (see below for cons) > Never thought this in the past but it actually does seems as thought the sleeper is larger in the T-680 than the Cascadia. This was especially apparent when returning to the Cascadia for my next trip. But I'm not sure if this is actually the case or if it is just a matter of perception (an illusion). ----- CONS > Idle with the T-680's Cummins is clearly louder and conveys more vibration. - Limited interface meant I couldn't so much as adjust the idle speed to try and smooth it out. > The Cummins also clearly burned more fuel doing the same thing as the DD15. Tried to be a ginger as possible with it. No dice. It was a chore just to try and coax it down below 25L per 100K (roughly 9.4mpg) and once the hills started, fuel burn ballooned back up above that quickly. In the Detroit equipped Cascadia, numbers as low as 23L per 100K (roughly 10.25 mpg) are not that hard to attain at all. You don't even need to try, really. (Yes. The loads I'm running now are pretty light.) > The robust feel of the ride is tempered by what I perceive to be less forgiving upset handling. If things ever got out of hand, I would reckon the Cascadia would be easier to save than the T-680. The latter would just be a handful. > Although it seemed somewhat louder SPLs (volumes) were possible, the sound system is not as clear and details of the audio are muddled and tinny. ----- OTHER THINGS OF NOTE - There was no optimized idle on the non-company spec'd T-680, so I don't know how those systems are on these. Guess I'll find out eventually. - There were windows in the sleeper on this T-680 I got to try but the one I'll be getting is just like the one in the video above - no windows, just vents. - Actually didn't see that much of a difference in turn radius. The KWs radiuas was slightly wider but nothing like what I experienced in KWs from years ago. I've been in trucks where you needed to do multi-point turns to get turned around in a typical concourse you'd see in a major DC. Start out to one side, crank it hard over and you'd end up head on to trailers on the opposite side. You needed to stop earlier, crank the wheel the opposite way and back up a bit to make it. This was nothing like that. **** EDIT - I forgot to mention that the interior lighting on the Freightliner is also a little more advanced. You've got bright lights or a dimmer ambient lighting setting. But then you have accent lighting on the T-680 that you don't have on the FL. Those Volvos have multi-color toggling trim lights. That would be nice. Hope they upped the lighting on the Next Gen KW... Also, the T-680 I drove was not Next Gen, it was a 2020. I don't know if that was clear or not above. At the end I saw there that there was a window on one side of the truck in the video above and a vent on the other. The Cascadia I'm in now is like that but I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that the T-680 Next Gen will not have any. Not sure why they made that change on their own company spec. Leaks? You can Idle less with a window specified. Those vents are only any good when you're at speed, not when standing still.*

I don't know anything about T 680 with automatic transmission. But T680 with 13 gear is the best one for me...

Could you make measurements in dB in case of quietness in the truck. Fror example my Volvo 760 on 70 MPH has measurement on 78 decibels. What number is in your KW?

That truck 🚚 might be really cool with a 565/2050 motor with a 18sp auto shift and 308 gears. Bet it would get killer fuel mileage. Of course. U would probably say that it is overkill. Would be a great owner Operator truck though. Just Saying 🇺🇸

I do like the styling on the new T680. The 2012-2021 model just looked too generic to me, i didn't really like em. New one looks more like a T600/T660 with the narrow hood. Styling is good, only issues i got is with the tech. The lane departure beeping and the truck adjusting speed with vehicles ahead would be annoying while driving. Also I'm not really a fan of the digital display, i prefer the gauges. Otherwise I do like the new 680s.

The digital dash is a big no. American trucks are known for their 80ish dashboard and hood. Don't try to be a Volvo or Scania.
