Upgrade Tip if you are considering upgrading your original 360+ dome to the new 360+5G : Before removing the original 360+ dome, at the interior ceiling; tape a 4-5 foot piece of string (or equivalent) to the original MCX antenna leads of your 360+. When you pull the 360+ antenna off the roof, the string will feed up from the interior to the roof. Now you will have a guide string to easily pull the new MCX antenna leads of your new 360+5G back down from the roof, to the interior. ;)
I was looking forward to the Winegard 5G offering ... until I looked at the technical specs that Winegard has published for the Gateway, then I dismissed it entirely. According to Winegard's technical specs, the Gateway provides WiFi 5 (802.11ac) not WiFi 6 (802.11ax). At the current price point ($1K), it's a bit ridiculous that the Wireless capability is 1.5, almost 2, generations behind. There are serious performance and security implications with this. The only benefit is convenience if upgrading from an existing Air 360+ and GW-1000, but for almost the same cost a Peplink MAX BR1 PRO and Parsec antenna, which supports WiFi 6 with the added benefit of supporting two SIM cards. Unless the published specs are outdated, the Air 360+ 5G and Gateway 5G are absolutely not worth the money. Whoever over at Winegard that thought it would be a smart move to mix current Cellular technology with 10-year-old IEEE 802.11 technology should be fired, IMO. Horrible, horrible, horrible decision on Winegard's part.
A surprising number of companies are still bringing out new products with Wi-Fi 5 instead of Wi-Fi 6, which is disappointing. Even the Starlink router is Wi-Fi 5!
Very confused. Can this be used as a wifi booster? Or is this winegard unit strictly for celluar data plans? Trying to figure that out because the RV we are buying replaced the wifi booster with this, not sure if I need to replace the unit altogether or if thats still packaged in there.
thanks for the update, unfortunately winegard wont be getting my money again for this new one. The previous one is always dropping my connection. Seems to be a common thing wit out a fix. For my next wifi solution I will looking at other companies and much more cheeper. Sorry for the native reply but it's the truth. sean
As it turns out I bought a 4g gateway for my Brinkley because that’s what they said it was. When I ended up with extra two wires I knew something was off. Is it possible at all to run he 4g with a 5g chip to make the system work or just cut bait and get the 5g router.
Newbie RV’er here, as in just picked it up on Aug 11th. This 5G Winegard is installed on our 2024 Brinkley. Who do I contact to pay for as an ISP? We are current T-Mobile customers. TIA!
I have the 4G Winegard model and the user interface is terrible. And some of the comments below have turned me off from upgrading. I got so frustrated with the user interface of the RV Halo app and firmware upgrade that I installed a new weBoost drive reach. This has been a game changer for me where I can use my existing 5G network to stream movies and work remotely.
