It stretches across 20 acres on the south side of Indianapolis. Developers said they hope to create a village-like atmosphere.

LOVE THIS!! It’ll match Bicentennial park perfectly! All the more reason to throw more shops into Centre Circle!

The open stadium is a mistake. Indiana weather is Indiana weather. Basketball stadium is enclosed. Football stadium is enclosed with retractables. This is a stadium design for a different geographical location and weather environment.

Soccer stadiums are open with grass all across Europe in cold weather. Playing soccer in an artificial turf field is amateur hour.

@@DynamicUnrealCold weather? Is least of the weather phenomenon on the list of concerns in Indiana &/or the Midwestern United States &/or the central area of the North America continent for the building of a stadium. Some Canadian exceptions of course and Alaska. But Europe is not the Midwestern United States, nor the Middle East, nor this part of Asia or that part of Asia, nor Africa, nor South America, nor Australia, nor anywhere else for that matter except of course Europe. Europe itself has a very diverse climate. The idea that construction projects can be built the same way across the entire surface of this planet is possible; but that does not always mean that said construction projects can be used to the same effect for the same durations of time in all locations. Indiana weather is rapidly changing weather because of its geographical position on the North American continent. Freezing in the morning then 90°f at noon then near freezing at sundown. This does not even include rain/snow, wind, dust, pollen, dry/wet, tornados, and all the rest. Also global environmental changes to consider. An indoor stadium would most likely be a better investment for longevity, diversity of use, and potentially profitablity for the project as a whole not necessarily specific investors. Also on another note if tax payers are paying a portion it should be for the stadium only. The other buildings should be entirely private funds in my opinion.. ..unless the tax payers are also getting a return from some of the profits on the rents and what not. Just one human's opinion. Good conversation, Good health, and a Good life to You.

@@CCthe13th From what I’ve heard, the entire project is privately funded. And it will be a soccer specific stadium, the overwhelming majority of soccer specific stadiums even in places as far north as Norway are open stadiums. There’s a long tradition of soccer being played on grass, an outdoor stadium is necessary for that. The good thing about the MLS as opposed to European soccer is that the season is basically from March to October, so the coldest months are avoided. In Europe they play in the middle of winter under rain, snow, and all weather conditions. I’m just conveying to you the likely arguments of why an open stadium design was decided upon. I wish you well also.

There really aren’t closed air soccer stadiums. Most all are open air and real grass

@@DynamicUnrealno. 80% of the stadium is taxpayer funded

Is soccer even that big in Indiana? Can a large stadium like that be filled up consistently? Soccer games in my area get less fans than a JV football game, even with teams that consistently perform well.

Just another thing for indiana to waste money on and have indiana tax payers pay for it like they did when they built the lucas oil stadium

As if no other city does the same to their Taxpayers right..The Hatred towards this city by some is unbelievable, however when you look at its finances, bond rating, and its metro growth rate it is out dueling any city in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio or Kentucky.

@melting-vibes Yes I discovered that also..So these whiners don't have a leg to stand on...Really tired of the relentless negativity by so many on everything this city does, when the data shows they know what they are doing better than the other cities in the region by a long shot.
@melting-vibes

@richarddobson3138 Agreed 100%. Most of the time, it's people who live nowhere near the city and possibly have never lived here before who always have something negative to say about the city.

@melting-vibes I feel a lot of the time the shots are coming from the nearby states, most especially the 4 states that border Indiana. I live in extreme Southern Indiana and I can tell you for a fact that a lot of the City of Louisville's residents hate Indiana with a passion, I know because I work in Louisville..Well nobody ever would go and try to kick a dead dog..Louisvillians and Kentucky people seem to hate all of the surrounding states but especially Indiana..But there is a reason for that..I'm 62 and can remember back around 1970 when Louisville and Indianapolis were much closer in size than they are today..Indy was still larger by about 250,000 metro, but since then the gap has swelled to nearly about 850,000..Back then Louisvillians wanted you to believe they viewed Indy as a cow town and that Cincinnati was the big city. However, today, from a factual standpoint, Indys Combined metro has passed up Cincinnati's Combined metro by more than 200,000 and Louisvilles by 1 million. This has upset the apple cart of a lot of these people. No matter what big event what new project happens in Indy, the Louisviile media will pretend like it never happened using the technique of COMPLETELY NOT COVERING IT. This has now spread on some Louisville stations and even the Courier-Journal online to include the World's Largest One Day Sporting Event, The Indianapolis 500 with them totally ignoring it the entire month of May even though Louisville is only 100 miles from the Speedway. They have always ignored the Pacers since the ABA folded and are really barely covering the Colts now..And they don't really cover Cincinnati much better. I Think the reason they don't with both Indy and Cincy is because it would show the huge inadequacies of Louisville's leadership. Louisville has simply not kept up, and in the last 5 years the quality of life in Louisville has dropped dramatically ..So I think it's Indys success that's fueled the animosity with them
