Ok folks, I just purchased this exact same model from this dealership. As I write this, it is Aug 3rd 2024. I took delivery from the 5 Rivet dealership on Aug 1st 2024. We are out camping right this very minute. If you want a solid review of the delivery process and the performance of the unit so far feel free to reach out to me. I am doing a full walk through video and summary of it all. Grab your popcorn Chad!
Best option is to use the seat backs for the bed. Slide the seat bottoms to the middle and slide the backs down flat. Also, the table sits on top of the seat surfaces. This creates a hump in the middle of the bed which is not comfortable. We use 1-inch lightweight foam board on the seating surfaces to raise them up to the table level. Then all the cushions sit on a level surface which is much more comfortable. For premium comfort, add a 3-inch memory foam topper cut to size on the whole bed area. It rolls up with the fitted sheet and can be stored in the closet along with the foam board pieces. My wife and I can both fit on the dinette bed and the kids get the Jack and Jill twin beds. Another cool item you can get are plastic bins from Granger that fit those storage spaces under the seats perfectly. Downside to the sliding table is that the tracks bend easily if you push down on the table as you get up. They cannot be bent back and the table will slope permanently.. I took the tracks out and just screwed the tabletop to the post underneath. You can still twist it around. The sliding mechanism had no friction so it never really worked anyway if you were trying to eat at the table.
I feel the dinette floor design is OK; has space for shoes on the entry and gives you an Airplane look of sorts… yet I get it make every space functional.
Hey, Chad. When making the dinette into a bed (after lowering the table), try moving both seat cushions to the center to cover the table area and use the seat backs dropped to fill in the ends of the bed. The seat backs look like they have the right contour to make the bed flat. Don't use the three cushions on the window wall at all. Maybe that'll work - maybe that won't work. I'm not in the market for an Airstream but I try to catch all your vids b/c they are full of information. Thanks!
With my 23’ Airstream Flying Cloud I didn’t like the grey formica countertops and have had them professionally upgraded to white Corian and they look fantastic! For the dinette I changed the shape from a big rectangle to a 24” diameter circle which has effectively turned the dinette into a comfortable lounging area. I loved your suggestion that the dinette table should be a circle. Did that and couldn’t be happier with the outcome!
Carl, do you have some pictures of your new table? I made my own table for my basecamp and would likely do the same if I upgrade to the 23’ (which I’m seriously considering)
Can you get full body shot video of you sitting on commode for us fluffier shoppers. ( cloths on obviously;lol) To give a perspective on how much room you have on it. Toilet operation space is a must for our next buy.
Hey Chad great job on this video! I own a 2023 23’ Airstream Flying Cloud and found your casual observations dead on target 🎯 I have an appointment with Airstream Factory Service Center next month and was debating whether to have them upgrade my A/C from 13,500 to 15,000 BTU’s because mine only cools down 13° in the heat of the summer same as yours in the video. Your musing wishing that Airstream put in the 15,000 BTU helped me decide to pull the trigger-thank you!
The AC drain pump leaks on this one, onto the roof as well. This is a defect in the AC units. Its supposed to drain through the DRAIN HOSE in the wheel well. For some reason, theres now a PUMP to pump the water out of the AC unit into the drain lines, yet this pump in many cases either does not work, or is not connected correctly as a common problem. I am still waiting for mine to be repaired. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE for water to drain onto the roof of an over 100,000 camper. Its messy, attracts birds, bugs and makes a dirt mess of the roof. Nice video though, thanks for posting! I have this exact model and color scheme. We like it a lot.
Very well done Chad. You obviously have a passion for the brand! @ +$100K you feel free to show that door on your way into the RV; it is impressive! Do you know if the GE model comes pre-equipped with "Soft Start"?
Is there an option to get a bigger TV? Also, when changing the table into a bed, I think putting the 3 back cushions in the center might work better than one seat and 2 backs. The setup you used had a 1/3 of the big cushion "floating" without any platforn supporting it. One good roll has everything on the floor. 😊😅😮😢
Thanks Chad. Discuss the front end separation issue. This unit has front end storage and that appears to be part of the problem. What guarantees does your dealership offer surrounding this issue?
The 2024s to do have an improved front end to help prevent front end separation. Dealers aren't able to guarantee something they didn't build. Airstream does give a 3 year warranty that covers the front end.
Love that about these videos. Saves me a 28 minute drive (each way) and I get to pause, repeat, zoom in, scroll up and look at all comments. All that benefit ... without pissing off my wife or the salesman.
