Awesome video today, boys! My wife bought me the Traeger 780 last October because she saw you using it. She bought me the knives (all 4) and your cast iron pan.... I'm afraid to see what THIS is gonna set me back! Kudos to you, Sam, for inspiring me to cook!
Mr. Sam, A few days ago I watched your Herb slow roasted salmon video from 6 years ago. I thought this would be perfect for my 93-year-old mother and 90-year-old father-in-law. I can't stand salmon; however, they both love it so, today 9-5-22 I made it on my little portable Pit Boss smoker. I followed your recipe and used "Q" 100% Alder wood pellets. My father-in-law was blown away at how good it was. He even commented it was better than his other daughter's (not my wife) salmon dish. Trust me that high praise. She is a nutritionist and cooks in a test lab. A number of years ago my mom had a salmon dish at a 5-star Las Vegas restaurant. That salmon became her benchmark, until today. She wigged out at how good it was. At least 25 times she said this is the best ever. I told her, I wish I had a bigger smoker to make larger batches. She actually offered to buy me a larger smoker. So, thank you very much for your video. As an admitted and proud Mama's boy, I live to do everything I can for my mom. Your recipe made her so happy and that made my day. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
That looked amazing Sam!! Lord if my husband was still alive , I know what he'd be getting for father's day this year!! Thank you for showing it . I'll have to tell my son-in-laws about this gem!!
I have the Master built vertical smoker and I love that thing for the last 7 years but it's time to buy something new and suddenly this shows up. I'm going to buy it for myself as a housewarming gift
The self-closing feature you suggested would be a nice addition, but there is one other addition that I think it should have even more, and I'm kind of disappointed that it doesn't. It needs a rotisserie! It could easily be built into the sides just like the supports for the removable racks. They could make it so the height of the rotisseries could vary to allow for various sizes of items to be cooked on it, or maybe even have three separate rotisserie slots so one large item could cook using the center rotisserie or several smaller items could cook at the same time using all three. It wouldn't be at all difficult to build that into this grill; I don't know if Traeger is responsive to your feedback, but if they are, you should pass that on to them!
That's only the base price. He got a ton of the extra gadgets too. Shelves, storage bin, paper towel rack, accessory hooks, stainless fish tray, and undoubtedly a cover also. Probably added another $700.00. Nice, but....WOW!
Sam, I've been following for years, and today my favorite video game streamer Dr disrespect just highlighted this video. He's in San Diego too, and it would be awesome for a colab
$3800. Can get a Yoder that's made in the US with 1/8" steel with a Fireboard controller, an UNi pizza oven, and a Blackstone for that price. Great video, nifty product. Don't need a touch-screen LCD on an outdoor product. There really is so much to break on this thing.
I've got a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 with over 500 cooks on it and I love it, but this thing looks like it takes the MB1050 to the next level. Holy cow that's amazing.
Traeger has come so far in the last 30 years. My 1st grill took a paste in order to get it going. I remember borrowing a traeger to cook hotdogs on, the thing was a beast. It would cook over a thousand dogs my kids school loved me, actually my borrowed grill, during the school carnival. It had two hoppers for pellets. Worked great!
Cooking and product aside for a moment .......... I think the intro on this video is out f-ing standing. Beautiful camera work/editing accompanied by a great music track that literally leads the viewer into the "meat" of the video, no pun intended. Your guys earned a standing ovation from me on this one!
I took my Trager back after 2 days and 4 cooks. It could not regulate temperature at all. Over 100 degree sweeps up and down. Bought a Req Tec and couldnt be happier.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s done a recipe like this, but I made a burger last night that was awesome. I called it the Tijuana Onion Burger: Chipotle Crema 1 cup sour cream 2 tbsp Japanese mayo 2 chipotle peppers in adobo 3 tbsp adobo sauce 1 zest and juice of a lime 1 pressed garlic clove Salt n pepper Blend it all together 1 lb ground beef Taco seasoning for 1 lb 1 jalapeño thinly diced Thinly sliced red onion 1 egg (optional) Mild cheddar Mix 1 lb of beef with taco seasoning, jalapeño and egg Roll into desired ball size Smash burger with red onions on top/in Flip when crust forms Top with cheese after roughly one minute on second side Serve on toasted bun (brioche) with healthy amount of crema already on
As a person who owned a Traeger Timberline,Camp Chef and now two Reqtecs. The Traeger was buy far the worst one.30-50 temperature swings very little smoke flavor and flame outs.My Camp Chef 20-30 temperature swings better smoke no flame outs.My Reqtecs 3degrees temperature swings the best smoke nearly as good as my $4k offset.I used the same pellets in all three brands.I wish you the best of luck.
Umm never had 30-50 temp swings in my Timberline...only time my Temp was that far off from what I set it to was when I raised the temp or when first starting it up. I have used it in high winds, rain (with sun canopy over it..) and 20F degree temps. Not sure if you were using an older Timberline but the just now uncurrent Gen version at least for me in my home location never has those large of Temp swings...it does change some but then you do want smaller temp swings to give better smoke flavor to your meat...
this model is insulated so temp swings are of the past. dont be a hater. I have a 2 ton smoker on a trailer and I think this is great for big parties for those who do not know how to smoke/BBQ with wood.
I have the Recteq 700 and once I set the temp, I never have to worry about any temp changes more than 5-8 degrees and that is rare when it does. The only thing I would like to see RT do is add those bluetooth temp probes that sync with the wifi so we can get rid of the wired probes. I do like the induction side burner! That would indeed be a nice addition to any grill.
Steve, I appreciate what you'd said and I'll personally look into all of that. It would be really nice if you knew how to punctuate properly so I could read your message without having to re-read it 80 times. Busting balls, but yeah man...it's pretty bad.
@@dugjay There are bluetooth temp probes that sync to your phone - don't need to pair them with the grill at all. Having it on your phone lets you monitor it away from the grill.
I never bought in to the pellet smoker ordeal. I just use a Weber, but Holy S, WTF, OMG that thing is a beast! The video production quality has improved a bit. Yes?
@@daddymcpapi7520 Bingo. It looks awesome, but all I could think this entire video was "this thing is going to be another rusty piece of shit in 3 years tops"
OMG LOVE TRAEGER!!! I used to work for the customer service tech support of Traeger, love those grills! And now I NEED ONE OF THE Timberline, hopefully I can save enough money to buy one! YUMMY!!!!!
Hi Sam, I’m a former Traeger owner and looked at going to the Timberline. However it was one of the cheapest built smoker I’ve seen for the money. For the money, look at the Lone Star Grillz new pellet smoker. This is a true beast that doesn’t rely on gimmick. I’ve had mine now for two months now, and IMHO, is far superior. Plus it’s made in American. Love you videos!
As a previous user of the Traeger+ system, I was a bit skeptical about making the switch to Asmoke. However, having experienced the difference, I have to say that Asmoke has truly raised the bar for pellet grills. The precise temperature control, the convenience of the digital controller, and the flavorful smoky taste from the wood pellets have truly transformed my grilling experience. The portability, coupled with the rechargeable battery that offers up to 10 hours of runtime, is just icing on the cake. It's perfect for tailgating and camping trips. I also love the fact that Asmoke uses recycled wood materials for the pellets, making it an environmentally friendly choice. The Asmoke Essential has truly changed the way I do grilling, and I am excited to see what I can cook up next with it. #Asmoke
See you got that mind haze! That’s some good brew. For the Traeger though: $3800 is quite a steep price for features you can get for 1/3 of the price or less. Someone else mentioned that they added the induction burner and 1500 to the price. That’s not worth it to me. I won’t pimp the brand but I got my pellet grill for $800 and a Blackstone for $300. They do everything this can do. And having a Blackstone is way more versatile.
@@metromusic5725 I know it’s sponsored. You’d have to be to get one of those things. I however am #notsponsored so that’s how much myself or any other average person would pay.
@@pictureBigger I’ve heard the Reqteqs are good. Same goes for my Grilla grills silverbac. All stainless and built like a tank. Traeger to me, is just buying for the name.
Looks like a nice machine. Word of advise to anyone buying this machine, Traeger might make a good pellet smoker but you might consider another brand for the wood pellets. Not saying that their pellets use alder wood and flavoring oil instead of whatever wood they claim to be using buuuuut... they did apply for a patent to do so. Just some food for thought.
Sam: "I don't have a thing for elbows!" Also Sam: 'Unless they have cheese!!!'💛😘 edit: all that feast looks fantastic, and Sam, you look like the happiest kid in the world right now. Christmas in March!
Okay Sam, this is awesome! Now, you are so into recipes, and different flavors. So, for you and everyone else. When smoking with pellets, the beauty is, you can season with the wood as well as herbs. Depending on what your cooking, you do not have to use just Pecan or Hickory or whatever. You can make a mix, in different portions, for a different flavor. Say, mostly Pecan, little bit of Apple or Cherry, with just a smattering of Mesquite. That one's awesome with Pork by the way. I know it's more difficult to do this when working from a bin, rather than a small smoke canister, but man is it worth it.
I've got a Traeger Pro 780 and I also use the pecan flavored pellets. My wife and I enjoy minimal smoke flavor and the pecan pellets seem to deliver that perfectly every time. Nice video too!
That company is overpriced junk ive bought 2 of them and 8 will never buy another both only lasted 2 to 3 years each the pitboss is just as good no it better than them
Great when sponsored/partnered, and don't get me wrong the unit in this video is top of the line, and their more common priced grills are good a product no doubt, but mostly namebrand whoring when people buy a traeger for $800 or $1000 or $1500. Shop around, lots of better options exist at similar or cheaper price points. Same goes for buying pellets, racks, etc. Traeger pellets are just artificially flavoured alder tree wood and soy filler lol. Other brands use legit wood.
I have the Timberline 1300 which I got last summer. I was anti Traeger before, but I am hooked now. This Timberline XL is a freaking beast. I really hope Treager offers the induction burner as an addon for the older smokers. I would buy one right off the bat.
My pellet grill is used mostly as an outdoor oven. The smoke flavor just isn't there. Plus I've started to really get into charcoal cooking again which has way more flavor in my opinion.
Try different brands of pellets or add a smoke tube or two to get the smoke flavor level you like. There are even charcoal pellets out now by 2-3 different manufacturers. Keep experimenting till you get the best results.
If you really want a more smoky flavor, set aside about 30-45min of smoking at 200 before you increase the heat. Also, spritz your meat. Smoke is attracted to cold and wet.
Great video as always fellas. One question if you dont mind? I get that its a smoker and its meant to well...smoke :) My one worry about these smokers has always been the amount of smoke they put out in to the air, as I live in a close community and dont want to smoke out my neighbours! What was your experience with this one and does it put out a lot of smoke?
Yes the $4,000 grill for those who own a few restaurants and a successful cooking channel, or those who are in politics. For the rest of us, there is Walmart $149.00 special.
Sam, if you want to experience the best (yes, THE BEST) salmon, look up Jacque Pepin’s method: basically 200F for 35 - 40 minutes, on the serving platter (even paper can take 200F, but I wouldn’t recommend it). Keep up the delicious good work!
@@sdonovan4401 Yeah, definitely not cheap but for someone that smokes a lot of food I'll bet they would really enjoy it. Yes, I got a little bit of sticker shock too!
Wow!! That’s an awesome piece of equipment Very impressive! I’m from Honduras and a follower I love your cooking skills I think you and Max talented I’m here just to learn and bring something useful back to my business in Honduras like receipts short cuts very tatesfull food Plus I think more than anything you very entertaining guy I’m fascinated with your show just recently started following But I’ve seen sooo many of your shows Just to catch up
Please Read This Before You Buy I have the Timberline XL version and my leaks around the door. I figured, once it gunks up it would seal off the leaks. I didn’t get the seasoning help on start up but I was able to do it manually. My biggest issue I had was on Saturday the day before Mother’s Day i was smoking a brisket for 8 hours over night, I took the brisket off and wrapped it. Put brisket back on and when I went to use the meater probe it wouldn’t connect to the grill. So I did forget the Bluetooth device and was going to reprogram and poof, screen died and everything shut off. I was on the phone with traeger for 3 hours and finally they gave up and said motherboard is fried. They are sending me a new one now. I finished brisket off in the oven and it ended up being amazing. Biggest issue is I have a 4500$ paper weight on my back patio with plans to have a pool party this Saturday for another cook. I’m so disappointed in Traeger. One more gripe, the doors aren’t level and they rub. I’ve tried all the adjustments and I still can’t get them straight. I’m trying to be patient and I hope this is the only motherboard that I’ll need to replace. Btw the induction cooktop is awesome. Meater probes sometimes connect, sometimes they don’t. Also I got a flame sensor issue the day before this thing died. Other than that, when you first hook it up to your WiFi, it took me 3 hours of failure until it finally hooked up and then another 2 hours of updates. Don’t think you’ll cook the same day you get this home. I’m going to follow this to answer any other questions people might have. I’m also posting this to every review on YT Forgot to mention, I sold my 3000$ pitts and spitts maverick 1250 for this. I never had one issue.
Wood cutting board... on top of a smoker... that is outdoors... Yes what could go wrong (terrible design unless it can just be replaced with metal parts that are included) I see a digital screen likely to have issues (again being outdoors). Downside of using only pellets vs wood chips/chunks means you can't just get normal wood to add (downside if you smoke often), plus with Tragers you can't even use it without the pellets. The nice thing about other electric smoker options is the ability to have the electric do the temperature control and add as much smoke as you want simply by adding more wood chunks/pellets/chips. Would want to see how the glass holds up as well to cast iron and if its going to scratch all up. Personally not a fan but it looks cool just think there is shortcomings in design (one of them is inherent because Trager only does pellet from my understanding which is a big drawback for someone who smokes weekly if not more often).
All the channels I’ve seen introduce this smoker today you by far did the best introduction . I’m a kamado joe owner always thought of pellet grills as an ez bake oven but this is a damn beast! Very nice 👍🏼
Pellet smokers are a bit weaker on smoke flavor but if you want a strong smoke flavor just use a strong wood like hickory. Woods like apple or cherry don't impart flavor that well but cherry does still give that amazeballs color. I just love the set it and forget nature. Every hour just check it, spritz it, and come back in another hour. Only thing I gotta worry about is a power outage and I could just move it over to my charcoal or gas grill.
I’ve been drooling over this since I got the email from ACE advertising it. I’m hoping my wife brings it home for Father’s Day….😁 oh by the way great video Sam love your content and your opinion matters to us novices.
Watching the Porter house come out of the treager and being cut up made me hungry again. I just finished a sit down dinner with my fam where I had grilled some fajitas and winged some beef ribs on my hundred dollar webber. 😅 Always something.
Love how much it can fit but aren’t you supposed to keep poultry on bottom rack so it doesn’t drip onto & contaminate the other meats? Looks amazing just what I’ve been told
I would normally agree but with ribs that are going to be cooked for 5ish hours I kind of like the idea of the chicken dripping on them...I bet he did it on purpose I would and I wouldn't have a worry in the world because of the cook time.
WOW ... That piece of cooking hardware seems AMAZING! C'mon winning lottery numbers! My friends and family would be etremely happy if I had one of these! I can't believe you didn't show the chicken and ribs though. Hopefully those results will be in the next vid.
Just fyi there are tons of traeger models that are PLENTY large enough for even a large family, for MUCH cheaper than this model. You can buy a small model and a thermometer for much less than this super fancy one. There's enough room to cook enough meat for approx 50 people on that thing.
@@stryker0ae Oh I know ... but the features on this are fantastic. And there is a smaller version of the one that Sam has as well. Maybe one of these days!! ;oP
@@DyesubDave yeah for real. I WISH I could afford this one. But I do have a traeger and for me personally I don't think I could love without it anymore.
The Traeger pellets contain no glue,if that's a concern. There made using just pressure, squeezed to a fine tip then they just fall off into a large hopper then flavors added.
I would've loved if that would've been more of a review. Like actually talking about pro/cons, price maybe alternates etc. Not gonna lie that thing looks damn pretty, the screen to make the temperature & also nob from induction I like the light effekt there. However price is too expensive for me atleast but I would guess that there targeted buyers are proably people who make bbqs professional, also proably not avaible in Germany anyway xD
