As Henning Pauly said recently after reviewing the Quad Cortex. The Quad really is the best but there are not any of the current choices out there that can not be used to create a totally pro recording. If you don't get one it is a bad tune and /or bad playing, LOL. What I heard today only proves he is right.😇 THANX for all your hard work to give us another great review and demo.!!!! Your shows are simply not to be missed by anyone wanting to keep ahead of the curve.

I have one of these. Got one of the first ones out and love everything about it. It replaced all of the pedals that are now stored in a large tote. Excellent demo and can’t wait for the full demonstration. Good job!

A GREAT SOUNDING PEDAL TO TAKE TO THE JAM NIGHTS TO JUMP IP ON STAGE AND HAVE A SOUND THE STANDS UP TO ALL THE COOL AMPS THE THE PLAYER BRING IN I RUN INTO A HEADRUSH POWWRED SPEAKER WHITH A VOLUMN PEdal. Fast easy set up and dynamic .Guitar geeks are surprised how good it sounds . It can hang with a loud drummer Great value

Love the old retro pod 2.0, it's a classic, some great sounds on the manual setting. As for this one not too sure, I personally think the zoom G1x4 offers more bang for buck, way cheaper more functions and a better user interface! But that's my opinion from an Aussie living in the U.K.

good video dude! 🎉 I have a question, do I have to connect a DI to play it live? ( To get a better sound) Or can I just connect directly to the mixer? Will it sound good?

@@juanjose5008 thank you very much!! From what I remember the outputs are unbalanced so plugging it into a DI would definitely help…but then depending on how long your cable run is it may not make a huge difference

Not for me but- interesting I suppose. Crazy how they can cram all that into a little pedal sized enclosure now huh? I'm stuck on the Freidman IR-X dual tube preamp thingy though- it's perfect for us old guys who grew up with tube amps and want to get into the digital thing without going all out. It gives you a tube preamp- dual 12AX7s- but a digital back end- cab and power amp simulation. Plus, it has an fx loop, dual channels, 12 IRs that you can swap out with whatever you like, and just sounds amazing. You can even come out of the send on the fx loop- go into the return of a tube amp- and now it's just a regular tube amp with no digital stuff included.

I dont get it. A quality Gibson/Fender guitar, Fender/Marshall tube amp and 3 or 4 pedals. Seriously, what more do you need? ha

@@johnsmith-ug5tp A rig you can actually gig and record with. I have a tube amp- grew up with them- but if you try to gig with it now- it's a pain in the ass. Most venues literally won't allow it. Recording with it is easier but- not nearly as easy as using a modeler. Face it- things have changed, you can sit in the past and complain like an old man telling kids to get off your lawn- or you can move on with everyone else and continue making music.

Who's complaining? I am just stating facts. All you gear nerd geeks are the ones blowing $1000s and $1000s on your geeky gear that is replaced with the latest new toy every 9 months. Bottom line, They are all chasing what was perfected 60/70 years ago. All your gadgets will never sound better than a gibson/fender guitar or tube amps. You guys are like women that cant stop shopping. ha If you can't get great tones and record with Les pauls, strats and fender and marshall tube amps all your new gear isnt going to help you make REAL music. As far as gigging you still need a guitar, an amp head and pedals These tools arent banned from a venue. Then again, it really doesnt matter! Rock music died 30 years ago and its never coming back. Keep blowing your money on gear and fancy recording software. It's meaningless, no one wants to hear it and no one wants to buy it. haha Rock music and performing live is like big band music. It aint ever coming back. ha An actual touring band cant make money. Hell, most places, you have to pay to play there. haha @@stoneysdead689

@@johnsmith-ug5tp it’s a great practice tool you can use at home while your wife and kids are sleeping in the next room! Also, sadly like stoneysdead said, lots of venues won’t let you use amps anymore…plus this kind of stuff makes it super easy to get a consistently good sound for front of house…yeah tube amps are great, I totally agree but this stuff works really well once you give it a try!!

Man, this thing seems cool. But....Any suggestion for someone looking for some sort of "headphone" amp, to hook up my guitar and pedals to a "amp" pedal that can do a decent clean tone, to headphones? Something simple? I can't figure it out! Don't want to deal with computer even though I can. A show on that would be really amazing.

I can't tell what exactly it is you're asking about to be honest- but there are countless amp in a box style pedals or modelers that have a headphone output on them. That said- you said you wanted one you could connect your pedals to- which sounds like you're looking for an amp in a box style pedal with an fx loop and a headphone out- the Freidman IR-X Dual Tube preamp and DI solution is just that. And- it's not just another modeler- there are two 12ax7 tubes in it that run at the proper voltage for an amp- it's a tube preamp with IR and DI built into it. And- it has an FX loop for time-based FX, while you run your drives and so forth into the front of it, just like an amp. If you want to avoid the IRs and digital altogether- you can just come out of the Send on the fx loop and go into the return of your amp's fx loop- now it's a preamp run into a power amp, and out to a cab- in other words, it's just a normal tube amp.

@@stoneysdead689 Thanks for the response. What I'm trying to find is something to go after my pedals, through headphones, that is simple and can do nice clean amplification. I tried the Strymon Iridium and coudn't return it fast enough. I can play into my computer into Cubase and it sounds decent with the VST's etc........But it's no where near open air clean vintage tube amp sound. I think I'm after something that can't be done. Or I just haven't tried enough things. It's a dilemma for me that I've had for a long time. Just something that is semi decent sounding for headphone guitar playing. Guitar into pedals, pedals into the thing I'm trying to find, headphones.

@@timhouston1638 What I just told you about would work great- the Friedman IR-x Dual preamp- but there are endless options really. Probably the most popular are the UAFX pedals- the Woodrow, the Lion 68', the Dream, The Ruby, etc.- the Woodrow emulates an old 50s Tweed amp, the Lion 68 is a '68 Plexi- 3 versions of it, the Dream is like the old black face Fender amps, and the Ruby is a Vox AC30. Imo the Lion 68 is the best of them- sounds the most like a real tube amp. In fact, when I heard it being A/B'ed against a real Marshal head- I liked the pedal better. The point was to choose which you thought was the real amp- and I chose the pedal. That's the first time I've ever been fooled by a modeler. Right now I'm running the Headrush MX5 but- I'm buying the Lion '68 next month because it sounds way better to me. That said- if you really don't like digital- I would try the Friedman- it's a real tube preamp- only the back end, the cab simulation and power amp sims are digital.

The POD Express could do that, for example…set it to a clean amp without any of the effects and run your pedals into it…the Two Notes CAB-M would be great too - there may be something new coming out soon too that’s really small and quite powerful! Sometimes you may have to use a computer or phone to initially set your sound up…but once you have a sound you like you don’t need the computer or phone anymore…just plug and play! But yeah…I should do a video on that!!

Sounds like the boss ir2 would fit the bill. Various amp models, effects loop, and headphone out. All in a standard boss enclosure.

I had one for 2 days...couldn't return it to GC fast enough. Lots of issues with it and was underwhelmed with the sounds. Having to press two or three buttons at the same time just to make basic tone adjustments gets annoying real fast. The modulation section is a disaster. The chorus effect has a huge treble and volume increase, while the flanger lowers the volume and increases bass. The amp sims are lacking warmth and just seem to miss the mark when it comes to getting the classic tones. I did manage to get some decent sounds out of it, but it just takes too much work to get there. Instead of enjoying playing my guitars, I was constantly fighting with the thing. I still find my trusty old ZOOM G1on to be way more enjoyable to play through. Sorry Line 6...I think this was a good idea, but the implementation didn't cut it for me.

I agree.! I truely think I got a bum unit with issues. I primarily bought it for the effects to play through my own amp and cab( 6mnth old archon 50 mkii and 2x12 mesa). None of the effects are usable unlike what ive seen in all the videos including this vid. First thing I did was learn to turn off the amp and cab sims(middle encoder to 6oclock for amp and hold alt/tap and turn encoder to 6oclock for cab) No matter what reverb setting all i get is a nasty microphonic sound, delay is a jumbled mess and mod is as you said plus barely any mod effect coming through. Got it a week ago and still have it but dont know what else to try, i mean its a most basic hookup possible and hope im not overlooking something and highly doubt its not the amp not playing well with the pedal,...so after all this verbage im at a loss and ready to return it and just buy some individual pedals like i was looking to do until this Pod released. I fig $180 and some usable effects, hell yeah,..Not!

sucks they left midi out. no beginner would habe suffered syncing it up with an hx one, stomp or even cheap old m5 to get into synced multifx. would have theown out the ruby and some other stuff if it had had midi. sad.
