Mine showed up yesterday. One thing I found right off the hop is that the barrel jack is proud of the chassis about 1-2mm and there has already been arcing from the DC barrel plug to the chassis when I moved the switch. Does NOT bode well. Opened a case with UI Support this AM. Maybe ElectroBoom will like one of these.

Update: Ubiquiti is absolutely taking charge of the problem and resolving it beyond expectation. I have to say, this is a VERY good intro into their Support and RMA departments and a breath of fresh air. That said, I've never had to exercise Support or RMA in the 10+ years I've been buying Ubiquiti gear for my home and home lab.

External bricks are more reliable, safe to replace, run cooler than internal ones, and don't require massive disruption to replace if they die. When the brick is integrated into the rack mount like this one, it's perfect. For a desktop or wall mount though, the brick sucks big time - there are many negatives - the size, but most of all the difficulty of cable management.

Agreed with other comments about the ridiculous power supply arrangement. They made the chassis smaller then had to invent that contraption to make it the correct width again to hold the power brick. Just make the chassis the proper 1U width to integrate the PSU! Also the Pro Max series should really have all 2.5 Gbps ports as standard. Finding 1 Gbps ports on a brand new device in 2024 marketed as "Pro Max" doesn't sit right.

More Power and 10G SFP+ ports, which was something I did not get with my original one because I failed to notice that it was only 1Gb. At first I did not like the power brick but the way the rack mount hides it is great and I can appreciate the smaller form factor for those that do not have a rack. For your 10gig setup, what are you using for your SFP+ 10g backbone? It is definitely a better design. I am glad it has some 2.5Gbps on it and the fact that every port is at least POE+ is really good and it should make for a good home setup where you can have APs on the 2.5Gbps ports with cameras running on the rest. The only thing I question on the switch is the external power brick. I kinda wish they had just made the case itself bigger and then stuck it where they did in the rack mount accessory. The accessory is very well thought out with how it routes the cables though. I wonder if it would make more sense alongside the non POE version. I bet that thing doesn't have nearly as big of a power brick and might just be more like a little wall wart.

This will likely replace my combination of 16-lite + Flex XG I am using today, which will save on room inside our leviton structured cabinet upstairs. The 16 lite has so _little_ total amperage that I had to add an additional inline poe adapter because I kept going over the max Amps (which functionally I found lower than they advertise). Agree with the comments on the extra large power brick, but it will be ok. I will have to design some 3d printed Leviton mounts for both (I design and print custom leviton adapters for all my unifi gear). As for your question about the lighting? Meh. It's just not that useful for equipment in a closed / locked cabinet. But this product does solve a missing size / form factor for 16port 10G that they were missing.

The 1st of April was long gone when this was recorded, guess Ubiquiti missed the memo. Would have preferred to see PoE++ in conjunction with port speeds that can actually support WiFi 7's real world bandwidth. Time for Ubiquiti to start getting ahead of the curve for a change. This is almost a step backwards. Just as the U7 Pro is nowhere near the caliber of a "Pro" AP. Just called it the "Pro" to charge more money. Wasting time and resources currently on this switch is comical.

I'd love to see a Dream Machine in this form factor tbh. No HDD and external PSU, something that would sit between UDM Pro and UCG Ultra.

external psu = no go not full with = no go only 4x 2,5g = no go heck the 8port enterprise is better then with 8x 2,5g ports... 1g ports are a dime a dozen and can be added for like 20 bucks...

I really like this switch with 4 2.5GB ports. Also the option with and without POE is great. This Nightrider Effect costs money and I think in 95% isn’t used. The 50 bugs for the Rackmount is much to high in my opinion. I think, I will buy one because of the in my opinion good home usability with the port combination. But I would like to not pay for this light games and to high priced rack mount. … and I like your videos 👍🏻

I agree because you would may consider then just to buy the 24 pro max as I never have enough ports and it comes with 8 x 2.5gb

might as well just buy the 24 port not much difference in price when adding the rack ears...

I just wish that they would finally release a UniFi desktop/rack switch with 4x SFP+ and 8-12 10G RJ45 (half of those being PoE+ or ++).

Indeed, I have to use a Mikrotik with the 4xSFP+ ports for my home network to interconnect with my unifi network.
@williamp6800
@williamp6800 26 дней назад
@@shmayazuggot8558you don’t “have to.” I think aggregation switch is actually one of their better products. No mixing and patching different types of ports. Just eight SFP+ ports. That’s it. I’m sure more expensive than the Microtik switch you bought, but everything Unifi is.

Love the smaller switch. Definitely would suit my needs - other than the lack of faster ports. Why do they insist on having so many 1 gigabit ports?? At minimum it should be 8x 2.5 gigabit ports. Bit lets be real, they should be all 2.5 and start offering faster port selections.

Decent specs but I'm not a fan of that form factor. It's like a hybrid trying to be out on the desk/wall and also the rack. A typical hybrid where it doesn't do either job very well. I guess for $399 one can't complain too much. Also strange to have a PRO machine without DC Power Backup possibility, especially when POE++ devices usually are important. Rack mounting is definitely secondary on this guy.

The fact that it is an optionally rack mountable and within a PRO line but without a DC power backup doesn't make any sense for me

They should have kept the USW white aesthetic. It's a bit too non-discrete especially given the massive power brick and the short cable.

I would have preferred, at the cost of extra depth, to have the RJ45s sockets in two rows to enable better use of rack space.
@williamp6800
@williamp6800 26 дней назад
How would that enable better use of rack space? People have been clamouring for companies to stop putting the ports in two rows and use a single line instead. That way ports line up better with patch panels.
