Glad to see some competition to that other brand you speak of... I've been holding off due to the cost. Might just have to get one of these with the special pricing. Thanks John!
Hey John, very nice presentation, I went and ordered one from Amazon for 55$and it will be in Fri and I can't wait to try it out, like you said I have one from a competitor and only get about a 10 ft range then it loses connection. Oh and by the way... You have a very, very lovely bar.
I just bought a TP960, mine is different than yours. Instead of an add button on the meat select options, I have an OK button. I am trying to do a beef brisket to 203 degrees and I cannot find out how to change that, any ideas. Also my app, looks a lot different than yours. I have a android??? are they different? Also, do I have to hit the trash button to turn it off?? The directions are no help at all!! thank you
Wow this is the best over all explanation of this product on utube! I really enjoyed your presentation. I really liked how you did not use music!!! That is a killer for those of us that are hard of hearing, so thank you for that. I ordered one and it will be here tomorrow. I will try it right away on a rotisserie chicken. I will post my results after my cook. The only thing I could not follow was how you set the alarm 5 minutes before the end of your cook. I did not see that option during the video. But thank you very much! liked and new sub!!
John, so far I’m impressed with this wireless probe! I will be buying one of these soon…..my other one doesn’t do near as well! Will the app handle more than one temp spike?
I ordered one. The ThermoPro website notes that it is sous vide appropriate and dishwasher safe. Don’t think I would do the latter, but sous vide will be nice. A strong Bluetooth signal is great. I have had horrible luck with Bluetooth around my property. Thermoworks Smoke RF has been the only device that has been reliable within my house and across my 1 acre property, so if this can handle that, it’s a win for me.
the patent must have expired as there is a whole bunch of these type of thermometers from different brands now on Amazon.. there used to be only a couple...
Solid video. Regarding bluetooth connectivity, I presume you are comparing the TempSpike with Meater. I have the MeaterBlock and it is virtually worthless because the probe and Block disconnect repeatedly even when the two are no more than 4 feet apart. TempSpike looks like a better and less expensive alternative.
Ha. So I was on Instagram and this ad came up for probe with a huge discount on Amazon. $45 and with tax $49 shipped same day. So I bought one today and it just arrived. I opened the box and went to RU-vid to search for videos on it. Who has the first video, the man myth and legend himself! My favorite pit master. Watched your video and ordered a second one! I've done 2 ribeye roast and 4 Picanyas on my Kamado with the Joe tissary since fathers day. I have the meat eater probe but it quit working and I wasn't impressed enough to buy another one. Wasn't really going to buy another wireless but I'm glad I did and can't wait for another week of solid BBQing. I go buck wild every year from fathers day through July 4th. Still need to catch up on your weekly podcast.
Good video! Be nice to know how you set those separate alarms. Also the depth of the probe, the notch should not be visible, so you need to insert that probe just past the notch into your meat, as shown in that app graph! Just sayin' !!
John, thank you for the great First Look demo video for the TempSpike, I purchased one. I've used it two times so far and I'm impressed with it. The Internal and Ambient temps reported by the product are within the tolerance specifications. The Android app was very easy to use to attach the probe and booster to my phone and record the graphs for the cooks. I did not have any connections issues with the probe/booster to my phone while in use.
Very interesting. Any idea of the max ambient temperature for the device? I'll cook a chicken somewhere above 400 F, and would like some buffer, as I've had it sneak higher on me.
@@BrianMiller1973 the manual that comes with it states 527 as the max. you would never need that in an indirect cooking scenario and you should never expose it to direct flame under any circumstance.
Ah, well the Thermopro stock photos on Amazon say 572. Someone made a typo somewhere. Either way, I don’t have an application where I would use a thermometer like this in a temp range anywhere close to the advertised max.
Many presenters have been reviewing many of the popular grilling meat thermometers. Every device has its pros and cons. Each potential buyer may have some specific or special interests for using one of these. For some it’s temperature accuracy, for others it’s all about connectivity and range, for some others it’s about the price, deals and coupons to enhance the buyer’s experience, many people may be concerned with the functionality of the apps, and then with any digital/electronic device it’s about reliability and life span, rechargeable vs replacing batteries, etc. You have provided an excellent review and demonstration. Will everyone get the same results? Not necessarily but it should be pretty close due to differences in grills, heat source, meat density and types of cooking methods. Thanks for your time in sharing your experience with this device. Now I’m off to look for another review. I’m collecting data to make a decision and I’m in no hurry. 😂
I have a rotisserie for my weber kettle grill and it worked great the first three times I used it but this past weekend I had a cowboy ribeye to cook and I could not get my TempSpike to work ,,, so frustrated with that happening when I get to the add device and I tap the + button I just get a spinning wheel that never connects! Yes it's fully charged and not in the booster ???
Not sure why you were having to add a new device after you had it setup and working. I would probably delete the devices and set it up from scratch again. If it doesn't work file a warranty claim
I would give it another try. The first time I charged mine I had a similar issue but after recharging it a second time I can get over 24 hours on a single charge.
@@ManCaveMeals Yea I just saw that. I love this device. I have a camp chef and their probes are garbage. Love the grill. I also have the thermapro with wired probes. The range of the Spike was what I needed.
@@ManCaveMeals maybe I didn't wait long enough...I was watching it. I will try it again. But I have no real complaints on the unit. The lady did until I shut the alarm off on the base unit. That ring is loud.
@@pleasuremaster4617 *I* wouldn't. When I cook on the rotisserie, I use very small amounts of charcoal and just add some more if its needed. I bank it to the back side of the grill. *I* also don't have issues with just stopping the rotisserie when needed to check my meat temps with an instant read thermometer. THAT is the the most economical solution to this problem.
Got a first cook on mine, the probe worked great. There were a few.spots where barriers really limited the Bluetooth. One was in my carport, and it took me a while to figure out that I was in line with the refrigerator in the kitchen :) And that alarm really does let you know that something's up. Surprised me the first time. But the dogs know what it is now, so all good. One reason I got it was to reduce the time spent managing (and cleaning) wires It works great for that, cleanup was much easier. I did see a warning to not clean it while it was still hot, which is not something I would have thought about. Thanks for the review. It helped me make the decision to get one.
