My Dad and I didn't expect this. We took C10 Slayer and did the very first tandem axle burnout and this is what happened.. Watch till the end to see how wild the burnout marks look! My dad and I are excited to show you the process it will take. Most creaters only show you the good and pretty parts in videos. Just like any race car we are going to go test and get c10 slayer 100%! Overall my dad and I are stoked we built C10 Slayer from the ground up and its finally time to have some fun an get her dialed in!

Check the axle weights. If the load is equal and the spring/shock rates are the same, the hop will be better. Only one axle is hopping best I can see. Awesome build.

What about weight distribution, it looks like the front axle/tires were smoking more than the rear. Might need more pressure on the back axle. Absolutely killer truck!!

I noticed the front set of dualies smoking more that the rear also. As a hillbilly with not much money my first thought was to put slicks on the front set so they wouldn't dig so much, but hey, what do I know?

Semi's tend wheel hop, which I think is why the true burnout ones are single axle. Plus they only need to replace half the tires. There are ones that don't. They will wheel hop doing truck pulls on dirt too. Maybe talk to some guys that do truck pulling. You will get it figured out. Then you need to take out stock in Michelin if that is the only brand you will be running. The truck is so awesome!

If stiffer springs don't cut it....maybe go full Roadkill and put some more weight in the back? Weld a bar across, put an upright pole on it, and stack 45 plates on it until the hop stops. Won't look pretty, but it should help.

I have not read all of the suggestions as of yet but you might look into balancing the down force one axle has even a slight amount more down force on the suspension it’s going to lighten the load on the opposing axle you might consider looking into weight balancing the backend on an individual tire basis good luck love the video of the truck even more thanks for sharing

To get the hop out I would almost try and remount the coils mount and put them with fromt coils forward at 60° angle forward and rear reversed. I think that might set ur suspension preload to allow each axle hit center and stop the axles from loading up

Who couldn't see wheel hop being an issue? Anyone who's ever driven a pick up with no bed, or a hot rod with improper weight bias knows no weight on drive tires creates wheel hop, every time. Suggestions? add weight and more shock/dampners.
@ZelosZelo

no matter how well you machine the parts, there will be a tiny difference between the axles "spin rate", how much grip it is getting, and even air pressure. if the axles were welded together there would possibly still be some hop. . I love tandem axle trucks, esp mini trucks & its gotta have that bass ;)

The wheel hop is caused from the rubber bushings in your traction bars, you should have the same kind as in your Panhard bars for no flex, it was in a hotrod mag.Or change the rubber for brass bushings, either will take the flex out.
@electricashman
@electricashman 2 года назад
You need heims spherical bearings to keep axle wrap tight. After that adjust anti squat. Bigger bearings last longer. 7/8, 3/4 hole with step down misalignment spacers and rubber wobble stoppers is what I would run. If you get front to back axle oscillation I would make the rear axle links longer. Looks like both axles have the same length links, same natural frequency so both axles will hop under the same conditions. If they have different geometry only one axle will hop at a time. Less violent. (Internet arm chair quarterback pro)

Could of swore the rear axles tires made contact with the fronts. Did anyone else think that? The tandems are too close and need more seperation. Can't be much clearance allowance between the tandems i.e. for flex/twist while turning, tire expansion, etc etc. Picture this on a tractor semi truck, eeeick. (Class 1A licensed) . Enough rambling. Easy fix a lower profile tire/smaller diameter tires.

start looking at your bar angles, might be a little tricky due to the dual axle rear setup to get them to have similar characteristics. I think that the bar angles are going to be unique to each axle. Instant center vs 100% anti-squat line. Anti-squat over the 100% line should force the wheels down into the ground more.

Compression and rebound setting on the shocks should work out the wheel hop some. And wheel speed has to be higher then where the tire wants to grip. Those sticky tires get heated up and they are just going to want to plant the power. Get some harder compound tires for just doing a smoke show.

Your Springs may be too soft. You're getting axle wrap or twist. It's no different than a single axle car that has wheelhop. Stop the twist and the hop will go away. It should be treated the same as any single axle car that has wheelhop.

Spring rate isn't what keeps the tires on the ground. You need to be able to control and adjust the compression and rebound of the shocks. Is this suspension not able to do that? Of course, bar angles are going to play a big part as well.

For the rear I would say just beef up everything and have much beefier links and mounts, because even if it looks sturdy that can change when 900+ ponies go through 4 massive ass tires. Also maybe a less grippy tire if you could even find one so it won't hook so abruptly after/while it slides. One more thought is to go with a panhard bar or even triangulated 4 link setup, because it seems like the watt's link setup might be what's doing it. This thing drifting with the Nascar taco would be sick

I would 100% look at spring rates, coil depth, and for sure you have to optimize the pinion angles they just look a little wallerd to me. Also what diffs are you running? Because 100% i would run spools. I wouldn't want limited slip fighting itself back there, lotta shit going on and a lot of forces going different directions. So the objective is to #1 get everything to go in the same direction. Easiest way to to that is to get all the wheels spinning at the same speed then re-evaluate. It might be a dampening thing too. Might be a weight thing, might be as simple as a tire thing. Shitty part is you cant toe in. That would really help the binding situation you have going on. Similar to the thinking of the most maneuverable aircraft will be aerodynamically unstable. I wanna say Nissan did a F1 or indy car prototype with tandem rear wheels. Might wanna look at some of their work. Apparently the car works really well so, never know. Obviously theyre not running solid axles but as far as the way they have the thing sprung, pinion angles, lash on the diffs(if you decide against a spool)etc. You might find something useful in their research. Keep it up guys. I wanna see an electric trophy truck next ok?? 1800 horsepower, 4x4, fully independent. Let me know if you need a hand.

Gears..posi or limited slip..wheel hop appeared on the inside trac. If its a posi make sure that both gear sets are 100% equal ..if the box said 4.10 then make sure both sets are 4.10 ..not 4.13 And 4.10 or 4.10 and 4.08. It doesnt sound like much. But even .03 different can create bad harmonics at high speed ..proof he let off the pedal to make it stop hopping..thats why semis dont have full lockers only a limited slip
@weedfreer
@weedfreer 2 года назад
hey guys...you know what? This thing totally needs a 6 wheel steering upgrade fitting! ☺️👍👍 Also, you need to fit some more framework to stop the 4 wheels from yawing about...looks like there's a potential for the tyres 'clapping' against each other once a particular resonance frequency is met I notice, for example, you have a 'Z' bar dealing with the pivoting up and down of the individual axel's vertical motion such that it maintains as perfect a perpendicular path to the vehicles central plane as possible...but, what about something to tame the motion parallel to the vehicles central plane (i.e. foward to rear motion) between the middle and rear axels? I'm clearly no expert here, however, I should have thought that the two axels need to 'talk' to one another such that they flex in unison...but, also, so that any build up of frequency in the horizontal to the central axis plane can be damped I wouldn't for a second think that ordinarily, such a vehicle would need to consider this, however, the amount of torque you're likely putting through this thing is likely causing an amount of flex on the frame/axels that means that it will become a factor. You're never going to be able to stop this flex, and, so, it's something you're likely going to have to come up with a clever solution for. Thinking of something like a 'Z' bar connection point being placed atop the outside extents of all 4 axels, such that you have a link into some sort of framework connecting both sides of all 4 axels together while also going to a single centralised spring+damper orientated in the horizontal plane. How you'd be able to fit such a system around the vertical suspension components though would likely be an interesting challenge

Fire up your lathe & swap out your Polly bushings for aluminum, its alot like axle wrap with leaf springs... with the sticky tires & hp... something has to give. You can also try adding some weight with a temp water tank to adjust weight & possibly spring rates. Also try increasing tire pressure. It's a seriously wicked toy! Very impressive! Dusty D Idaho

Pinion angle, 4 link bar angle and shock dampening are all what controls how hard the tire is pushed into the ground. It’s like a prybar the torque creates through the driveshaft. Then suspension setup is what controls how hard the tire is planted. Wheel hop would be loss and gain of traction. For burnouts you want no traction. Not back and forth. Drag shocks have knobs that control the valves to control the reaction of the spring/suspension. Not sure how those hydraulic shocks work…

Looking to why semi trucks do the axle some of those boys might have an idea and you should probably put a piece of Line-X plexiglass over them drive shafts because that drives have blown up at that RPMs you might call some damage to somebody or something

Guys this build is mental. I noticed the front axle is producing more smoke than the rears. Ie more load on the front axle. Also the marks left from the drift shows the front axle is hopping. My advice would be to put it on scales and make sure you have even weight distribution of the rear 4 foot prints. Maybe some sort of system fitted that is senses the load and unload of the individual tyres and applies load accordingly. Hope this suggestion helps

Try putting some M/T 28x10.5's on it and see how much power you can put down in 660 or 1320 ft.

You had more smoke on the Mitte axel. So let's do this. Put down 6 corner ballence scales. Then play with rear most axel spring tension until the weight ballence of the rear 4 tires are equal as a baseline. Ballence rear tire pressures as well. Both will provide equal tire ware, more traction and maybe less hop.

Get a hold of Heavy D Sparks from diesel brothers. I know they have built several different tandem axle vehicles he might have some answers for you on what could help with all of the wheel hop. @

Is the dif open at all? Or no? Because it’s effectively like a 4wd just with next to no wheelbase, it’s working against itself

You guys need to get Monster or some MAJOR sponser on board. I want to see this truck in the same stuff Hoonicorn is in, Video games , music videos etc. That thing is bad ass.
