We have started our channel at the 24th of September, 2012, almost 4 month ago. All this time all our subscribers seen us only on videos, but no one in person. But at 19th of January, 2013 we had a first meet with Mark Spratt, one of our viewers. He is married for 10 years with Alla who was born and raised in our city Ufa, Russia.
So being our viewers, as soon as they came to Ufa, Russia, they invited us for a meeting! We agreed with an enjoy! It is another thing that showing we are for real. Mark was need just one Facebook message and one phone call to us to set up a date!
This first personal meet with Mark and his wife Alla (and her Mother, Lidia Lerovna), as with our "Real Russia" viewers definitely became a momentous event for us which we just couldn't not to film!

I absolutely loved Alla's mom's response to your question, Alexey. She did a very thorough explanation. One of the best I've heard. She talked about the good and the bad. The good sounds wonderful - but the bad doesn't sound that bad. On the trust and the kindness scores alone, the USSR sounds pretty cool. And all the doors open and people wandering from apartment to apartment to view the one tv and so on. I don't know, however. Her memory may be colored by time. As she said, it was her youth and she has nostalgia. It's a pleasant thought, in any case.

it was not russia specific, the entire word was like tht during less technological era, she is basically in nostalgia of her childhood days as she said herself

I liked the mother-in-law's even handed reply of the differences between USSR times and the new Russian times-this is real Russia! And thanks for allowing your non-Russian subscribers to participate in your show like this!

Hey, you should intervieww more old people about the USSR,. In america all we heard was stories about how bad it was. Alla's mom made it sound that some parts were good. Maybe interview more of the older generation. Great Show dude! We love it!

the ussr time wasn't bad. people were happy everybody were sure in tomorow and never haven't a fear. there were less of crime. so what can i tell you yet ... there was more advantages then disadvantages on my own seen. and if it was a nowadays that would be not bad. that's only my own mind. may be someone have the similar ideas, or may be different ... however

Recently read a book about US and USSR competition in the Space Race and found it remarkable how affable the Comosnauts and Astronauts were toward each other.... Especially Collins and his crew meeting Leonov and his crew before meeting in Space.....being a teen at the time and raised during the Cold War it was remarkable and gave Americans and Russians all hope at being friends with each other....

I love this show! I found it last week and I have been watching episodes to try and catch up. I am hoping to visit Russia next year. By then I will have taken a couple semesters of Russian at the university and hope to speak it fairly well. Good job, Sergeys!

What a great response from the mother in-law. It's about the youth: the youth of her generation had a much stronger social fiber that held them together through common daily struggles. Something I witnessed firsthand in cuba. That social fiber is much too loose and in my opinion is detached in the current youth of Russia. Capitalism it seems appeals to a darker side of humanity. A side that favors gathering "stuff" over forming closer human bonds

6:52 I feel like I sympathize greatly with what she said. Over the last year or so, I've become ensorcelled by the romanticization of what America was percieved to be, and all the patriotism that went along with it during that time period. It seems like that was a time when Citizens of America were taking a step back into a bygone era of believing in what they believed their Nation stood for. I remember hearing how it was a time when everyone believed in what they were fighting for, and the ideals that they believed that everyone believed in, and it feel like a throwback to hundreds of year prior, when not every Citizen of the United States agreed on the same things, but they all knew and believed that when the cards were down everyone believed what they did, and said and did what they did, because they loved their Nation and its people, and would die for others because of what our way of life meant to them. I'm struggling with the fact that I seem to be a rare species of American Citizen living in a Nation that only wants to remember how bad everyone was, and surrounded by people who only want to mock and belittle people of an opposing political party, and persecute those who do not agree with them. And I find myself wishing I lived in an older time period when my fellow Americans would disagree with me, hate my views, maybe even punch me in the face, but when it came down to it, they would also be willing to defend me and my right to have my views, maybe even lay thier lives down so I could go on having the freedom to disagree with them. I imagine that is what she kind of feels about Russia, that way back when, there was an environment of patriotism in her home. The economy was prosperous, everyone believed in what they were fighting for, and they respected each other, believed in each other, and now it feels like the magic is gone. Suddenly, people are either at each other's throats, or they are off staring into space, and that feeling of kinship we hear so much about between fellow Citizens of a vibrant, thriving Nation is gone. It's almost like it never existed at all.

I agree with Michael M, you should interview more elderly people in Russia. What the old lady said about the olden times was so relatable to the stories that i heard from my parents about growing up in a semi socialist economy in India. There are so many similarities. I loved this video, even though Im watching it 4 years after you posted it

I can't believe you guys have ONLY been doing Real Russian video blog since Sept 2012. There seems to be so many episodes, keep up the great work. It has certainly been an eye opening experience to see how how Russia is really like from the comfort of my computer chair. This beats any 'reality show' on TV... in fact, this deserves a wider audience so I hope you guys grow - either with RU-vid viewers/subscribers or gain TV/network broadcast around the world.

Wow, that was amazing, truly amazing... I have been wanting to know the answer to that question about current Russia compared to the USSR and you had a history teacher answer the question with no bias, she told the truth how she felt and now I know for sure. As an American, I was raised to believe that the USSR was evil but I never believed that and your show was able to verify it, thank you so much. You have an amazing ability!

I'm so glad you think this way. These arbitrary borders set up by governments needs to go the same way the USSR did and become extinct. We are all individuals and we all seek the same, liberty and the freedom to pursue our happiness and live our lives in peace and harmony with each other. The internet is making a huge difference in the world in allowing people all across the world to communicate and find others with similar interests. If you ever come to Austin, Texas you are welcome in my home.

I especially enjoyed the comparison between the USSR and today. I was recently in Croatia where I encountered the exact same sentiment. As an older American I agree that money causes people to drift apart since we perceive that we no longer need other people as much. Great video. I was in Moscow, Novgorod, and St. Petersburg in 2018. Lovely cities and people.

Your English is getting better. ^_^ Did you learn English yourself or did you take English courses in school, and in which school? Someday, I would very much like to teach English to international peoples (as a second language). Ah by the way, I think this kind of episode which involves other people uknow "guest speakers" should be longer, at least 12 to 15 minutes long so that the guests can talk about their experiences and opinions!

interesting episode, really enjoyed it, and I loved hearing about Soviet Era Russia. my fencing coach grew up in Soviet Ukraine and eventually became the head coach for the national women's foil team (not really a bad job) he has told me a rather contrasting story about the soviet union. but perhaps that is because native Russians were better off in the soviet system than other nationalities?

This reminds me of Canada .When you compare the 1960's to today it is the same as Russia. We had a sense of community in the 1960's and........... today everyone stays in there own house. We do not have street parties or BBQ's.People work and sleep to pay the bills. WE NEVER HAD ANY SHORTAGE IN THE STORES 1960 till now.
