Had to get out on the morning of 1/1/24 for a New Year’s Parks on the Air (POTA) activation! Ran QRP with the Mountain Topper and Alex Loop antenna. 72 & thanks for watching!!

Always been curious, what is the origin of your "backwards" keying? Was it a conscious decision you made or just the way you first picked up a key? Good stuff as always, Happy New Year K9ABR

Hah it was an accident! I saw the option in my radio settings and just chose the one that felt natural. I didn’t realize there was a normal and backwards. :) Now it’s just what feels normal to me! 73!

Wondering if you had a cold component come up to temperature that changed the SWR. If it repeats with similar conditions, that would identify it. Thx. Good Activation1 73 W4NQR

I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. It was about 30 degrees or so when I started and I think the SWR changed when the loop’s capacitor warmed up. After retuning, it was all good. 73!

what tripod are you using for your AlexLoop?

The Vivitar VPT-1250. It’s discontinued, but you can still find them pretty easily on Amazon. You take the camera mounting head off, and the antenna slides right on. I believe it was the tripod originally recommended by Alex. 73!

@@w4arb thanks! I’ve got an amazon basics tripod which works but it feels really flimsy. I also have a Pyle speaker stand which is built like a tank but weighs a ton.

@@tcort No problem! I will warn you, it is pretty flimsy too. But works well enough for me and fits in the case with the loop.

TU & happy new year! I had my phone sitting beside my leg and glancing down at my POTA spot. I noticed that it hadn’t respotted from the RBN in 5 minutes, which was odd.
