I love my MTR4B. I wish I had more time to get out and use it. I'm always amazed on how quiet it is as a radio. Know it probably doesn't have the best receiver on it, but it does a fine job for the expectations it setting. Great video and thoughts on the rig.

It's a really fun little radio. I love that I can throw it in my backpack and not worry about the knobs getting bent. On the receiver, I have had it side by side with my Elecraft KX2 today. When I find a weak CW signal, I swap the antenna and see what it sounds like on the other. At least to my ears, they're nearly identical. The MTR4B seems to have slightly lower RF gain, so it may be quieter, but the noise floor is equally quieter so it's still just as distinguishable. I'm going to continue using it as my dedicated rig portable and at home through next week and write up all my observations. I've found a couple firmware bugs hihi. 73 and thanks for watching Kyle!

I've looked at that one, I have it saved in my Amazon. I'm probably going to get another PD unit soon. I've been looking for one that's built rugged for outdoors. I've found some, but nothing amazing yet.

It's nice to have 3 keyer memories, I have 2 on my TR-35 and none on my IC-718. I really miss my old Heathkit memory keyer with capacitive touch paddles. It was wayyyyy ahead of it's time & still would have been useful today as it would have run via our portable power cells.

That is a great radio, similar but different from my Penntek TR-35 . Glad to see QRP is able to punch some holes, the last couple weeks have been rough.

it’s such a relief for propagation to be a little better. the last 2 activations I’ve done QRP and had a decent amount of pileups. QRP is my favorite!

You could eliminate 1 wire by plugging a Bluetooth sending unit to the audio out, and using BT headphones or a BT battery operated speaker. Wouldn't matter what radio you're using. 73

Bluetooth latency is problematic when you need the CW side tone for sending. With phone operation this is much less of an issue.

I wish I could use BT earbuds! I have tried it before and like Adam mentioned, it's just latent enough to make keying hard. Maybe one day they'll get BT low-latency enough.

Thanks! I am and I’m primarily a backend developer (if you can’t tell by how ugly my UI designs are hihi). I have built a REST API layer over QRZ lookup, QRZ logbook, POTA spots, and the RBN DX cluster. I’d be open to cleaning that up and exposing it for being consumed by a nice react app. Shoot me an email with what you’re thinking?
