Hello everyone, this is the first prototype of the VR haptic glove. This prototype is made just to check the torque of the 6V DC motor with gear.
The 6V DC motor itself is too weak to hold the finger from bending, so I bought a geared motor which decrease the RPM but increase the torque.
I bought 300RPM 6V DC geared motor and it seems okay at first time, but when I am trying to rotate the motor with low power, motor couldn't rotate.
That's because the the gear ratio is too high that it needs certain amount of power to run it. And that power is too strong to bend the finger.
The reason I run the motor with low power is, motor itself can both hold the finger from bending as well as giving a slight tension to wind-up so that wire is not floating around. 300RPM motor is not generating slight tension to wind-up the wire, so it only can hold the finger. So I changed the 1500 RPM motor, and this motor can hold the finger from moving and wind-up wire at lower power.
Next video, I will attach the potentiometer to read the movement of finger, new hardware design to hold the fingers tight and remove the buzzing sound from DC motor.
Thank you for watching and I will come back with a great idea!

Very exited to see how this project evolves, I assume your viewer base will grow too. This looks really promising! Is the vision for this to produce this at some point, or your own DIY project to see how far you come?

Thank you for your interest. This is my master thesis project. I hope this project is expanded to the VR industry.

I had the same idea like the other day but it seems like someones already done it, you should ue better gears for more force on the fingers. and you whould put it on a glove.

Really cool project!! I am about to start making something similar. Can you tell me how the motor can restrict the finger movement to a particular position? When the motor is switched on, the finger is completely open. At low power, the finger is free to move to any position the user seems fit. But how do you plan to implement the controlling so that the finger is, let's say, bend at an angle 45° and the finger stays there? Can you realise that with a DC motor or is a servo motor absolutely necessary for that?

Hi, thank you for your interest. The reason I used DC motor is, it can provide a type of force feedback that that not stop immediately but can feel a tension linearly or nonlinearly. Servo motor only can do stop motion which is not feel natural. You said 45 degree, I read that from flex sensors I attached in another video I uploaded. If flex sensor shows 45 degree, increase the motor torque and resist the finger movement. In my personal experience, servo motor is easy to implement but will not give you good force feedback feeling than DC motors. I hope this might help!
