Polar Pop here lol So pumped you guys got around to taking a listen, was worth the wait by far. Another wicked review as always, keep ‘em up!🔥 Edit: Can’t stop smilin’ seeing your guys’ reactions lol Edit #2: So damn happy this song resonated with you guys, felt like I was showin my buddies a song and they actually liked it lol My next request is the song “Themata” by Karnivool, hope you enjoy :)
They are a fantastic band. Almost unmatched in chord choices and appregiated lines. Strong grasp of melody. If you want to hear pure compositional genius listen to Marigold by them. Prayer Position is genius too. They engineer and produce their own stuff. Misha does much of the orchestration, Nollie produces the drums and bass. He plays bass for the band. The other guys come up with their parts. Misha composes the strings. The band is very self contained.
Nollie is also the main engineer, right? Misha composes a lot of the orchestral and electronic parts, but I believe in general the production and engineering falls to Nollie. Maybe even the mixing as well, if not the mastering.
@@JesusOfPaign Nolly mixes, someone else masters. Judging from the bts videos, Nolly records the bass, is the recording engineer for the drums, and mixes.
This is the song that got me into metal. Rick Beato did a video about it and I liked it enough to listen multiple times and digest it, then I gave more Periphery a chance and today I'm all about metal. This song is a little different from a lot of Periphery stuff because it has a dramatic, orchestral sound to it. You can hear it in the background at certain parts and it really adds to the track to actually make it sound like more than just metal. I think that's why it hooked me and why you guys enjoyed it so much. If you want to do more Periphery, you will have to check out Reptile at some point, but it's 17 minutes long. Worth it, but that's a lot to handle. Stranger Things is also a pretty good representation of Periphery at their best.
Damn they got a taste of the djent scene, someone gotta put them onto TesseracT next. They will probably love their music and they are from the UK as well.
Just so you are aware this band is completely self produced, guitar tones, song writing, the synthetic, the mix...it's all mostly the band, they are even under there own record label.
Periphery really brings out the most in every song they make. It’s incredible. If y’all haven’t heard it, Satellites from them is a true testament to musical prowess from them
It's nice that you're thanking the engineers, mixers, and others, but 3DOT Recordings is owned by the band, they do all the recording, mixing, audio engineering, mastering, etc. themselves.
The reaction felt soooo raw. Like I was with you all the way. It was something beautiful. The authenticity of this channel, is what will make it grow. Truth > Everything
Production means nothing when it comes to these reactions. This is how it’s supposed to be, genuinely enjoying it without extra loud personalities or sound effects, colorful lighting, etc. Amazing!
I’ve known of Periphery for a few years now and listened to a few of their songs on repeat, but have recently been going further into their discography. This band really emphasizes making each song they make feeling like a journey which I love about them. They are a progressive metal band with a bit of djent sprinkled in, but they are not afraid to switch up the sound which makes each song they make enjoyable and unpredictable from the first listen. My favorite rock/metal band, coming from someone who grew up liking hip-hop/r&b.
I've never seen you guys before. Im a big Periphery fan, so this video autoplayed while i was in my garage, I had my back facing to this video and turned when it got to the part right before "without your love". The finger in the air and fist pump, is exactly what expected to see from people who know whats going on. Excellent review!
I found Periphery by chance while I was playing Halo 2: Anniversary. I haven't been able to stop listening to them. I've been poking around at other bands/projects in the same field as well.
I didn't realize until years later but I also technically first heard of Periphery (or at least Misha Mansoor) through the Master Chief Collection and the Halo 2 anniversary soundtrack. So cool to later realize one of my favorite bands worked with one of my favorite video games 😃
Just here to encourage you to listen to more Periphery! You have perfectly identified the visual nature of the music journey they take you on. You would enjoy songs like Reptile and Stranger Things and for a visual treat the video for Make Total Destroy would be my first vote for that immersive world idea. Cheers🤘
I love love love your guys’ reactions. I feel like it gave such a good display of your personalities and active listening style haha. Periphery is an incredible band and if you liked this you would love a lot of their tracks, namely Reptile, Lune, Marigold, Stranger Things and so many others. They have great range and composition and production and there’s so much to enjoy with everything they make.
My favorite part of this reaction is you describe the engineers, musicians, and recording engineers as if they're all different people when, in fact, the musicians ARE the engineers!
First time seeing you guys. Great reaction and thoughts ! “The Bad Thing” is a great Periphery song that always gives me visuals. Also a Fun music video to see how they perform live. Very fun and intense!
NOW we are getting into MUSIC! Getting into the very modern/prog metal scene. Periphery is my goal musically. Idk what tf that even means but that's how I feel Fun fact for JB, Misha, one of the three guitarists, started as the drummer Scarlet was the first song that grabbed me by these animals if you're looking for more by them but Satellites is another journey of a song by them or Lune. Idk hard to miss with them on the main bangers
@@marylandstationmusic9422 y'all are the Goats. Very honest, very knowledgeable, very humble. Just glad I stubbled across this channel while I was living in England, really feels like I'm kickin it with the boys out there
@@marylandstationmusic9422 yeah I was living out in Huntingdon in the farms near Cambridge. Super peaceful, super windy though, how tf you walk sideways in the rain like that without flying away bro😂😂 Now I'm in my hometown Cleveland, Ohio. I stopped in Korea and Turkey before I came back though
Periphery is a good band, more than good, excellent, Misha, Mark and Jake are probably the best guitar trio in the world, alongside Nolly (bassist /producer / engineer), Matt Halpern the drummer and Spencer Sotelo the vocalist (arguably the best in the world). This song is one of my favorites of their catalogue, everything from the C ostinato part in the bass, the guitar fills, the drums, the vocals, the analog synth used to give the guitar more body, there's so much to digest here, truly a wonderful wonderfull song
Periphery is a band like no other. Their musicianship, engineering, and production are bar-none some of the best out there. My first time watching you guys and I’m so glad you liked it.
No one does it like Periphery! Would love to see what you think of Reptile, it's quite theatrical at times and it's 16 minutes long but it's up there with their best songs for sure!
It's so funny you mentioned the engineers and the guitar tones because largely, these guys did it all by themselves. The "drum tracker" is their former bassist. The guitarists (one of them specifically) programmed basically everything you hear. But you bring up a great point that they used a real orchestra and a real dude out in Utah, US, arranged and recorded all of the extra instruments you heard.
I think P3 wipes the floor with P2 all day long. Never understood theses "fans" at all. But I also think its just a loud minority. In my opinion they stepped up their whole game after P2 like no band ever before ... and stayed there.
They've yet to miss, P1 was good, but P2 and beyond just shows IMMENSE growth, Hail Stan might be their best, but we've yet to hear the rest of Djent Is Not a Genre, but so far, it's sounding like it's going to be #1
imma be honest and say i thought it was good but the others were better during my first listen but actually going back to it and going thru it a few more times it super grow on me and it really is beautiful
Homie was charging up from that finger wag up into the desk slap. Absolutely understandable when the music grooves so hard and Spencer hits that perfect note.
I hope the fact that spencer doesnt belt out those SUPER high notes on the newer stuff, (especially the two new singles) isnt because hes losing his voice and losing range, but more of a stylistic choice. Hopefully its more of a evolution of him as a song writer as opposed to vocal damage. My soul would be crushed if in the coming years he completely loses his voice and cant sing anymore.
This is one of my absolute favorite songs from these dudes. I used to jam to it back when it was just a youtube demo on the bulb channel. So fun to see other dudes enjoying it like I do :D! Keep Rockin djents. So as I listen, I want to add, I believe they all engineer and record/track all their own for this album. They also love video games, and say that they are a huge influence on them.
While I agree with most comments appreciating Periphery rightfully- I am just shocked not to see “Lune” ‼️among these songs mentioned! Do not miss out. ‼️ Also because the main orchestra arrangement at the end is a thread that connects several songs through the album Select Difficulty and that is only completely opened up in Lune! So a must hear! And I agree Periphery is absolutely outstanding as band, as engineers as musicians, individually and collectively both! Thank you for appreciating them nearly 7 years after the record was released- better later than never 😅 btw if the PRS is available (Mark Holcomb plays his signature models for the band) I am happy to receive it! Greetings from Budapest, Hungary 😉
Watching a bunch of your reactions tonight. Enjoyed very much. I don't see and Rush on your list. Please take a look at them. Maybe one of their instrumentals to start. YYZ in Brazil or LA Villa Strangiato
When you said you are selling his guitars, the genuine concern in his face LMAO that's a guitar player right there. By the way, hearing you thank all the people involved reminded me that they have documentaries for their albums. They are very insightful and entertaining. You guys would probably love to see how the band makes this music and the people involved. The documentary for the album this song is on is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pi3WUouE3uo.html
They put out documentaries of their making the albums. They are the producers, specifically Misha Mansoor, one of the guitarists and their former bass player Adam "Nolly" Getgood. They pretty much do everything. Keep going. You won't be disappointed. Satellites, Lune, or even A Black Minute/Stranger Things. Omega is also epic.
If you want something proggy that sounds orchestral, you should check out A Night on the Town by The Dear Hunter. Their singer creates such beautiul orchestral parts. He even builds his own guitars.
Periphery is an incredible, one of a kind band. My absolute favorite, by far. 🤘 "That was.... That was.... That was.... Umm... That was... Very epic." 🤣 There you go, Pureriffery in a nutshell.
I feel like if anyone's gonna do a crazy VR music video thing, it's tool. Their videos are already crazy artistic and trippy and they've always wanted to make a big video project too. Plus they messed with 3d before, their album had a stereoscopic 3d goggles and inserts attached to it lol
