The Tuff Wedding ring looks cool but it holds 21 qt of oil. Its supposed to break for safety. Wouldn't it be better to "save your finger" if it broke away easier at 4 qts instead of holding on and not breaking???🤔

You should talk to Yankum and see if they can get you a synthetic winch line for that beast. It would make it easier to pull out the winch line and reduce the weight on the front of the beast. If you didn't already know, they make synthetic winch line for wreckers. Casey Ladelle recently put them on his Zacklift wrecker and they make a huge difference when rigging recoveries. No more hooking up and backing up to unspool the heavy cable. Just a small modification to the sheep's head to round the edges so it doesn't cause wear on the line. Casey welded a U-bolt to his to make a rounded edge. Another advantage is it would make it much safer in the event of a line or anchor point break. Synthetic line doesn't spring back at you like steel cable does and wouldn't cause as much damage if it did. Worth considering.

No offense but I want the ring that fails sooner. That's the whole point it fails before your finger does.... So you go home with your finger

In regards to the "Tough Ring"...they are a great alternative to a metal ring however as a 30+ year mechanic I personally would prefer a lower breaking strength than 40+ pounds. That would potentially dislocate my finger and/or break my finger prior to the ring breaking and allowing me to get free.

The idea of that style ring is for it to break before you break. That tough ring is going to pull your hand into a lathe where the cheap silicone ones snap.

I'm going with "The Rhino Recovery Rig" Because its built tough and that boom for the winch line looks like I Rhino horn lol.

I love it! I used to be a cannon crew member working with the M109 self propelled howitzer. Those howitzers use spades to grip the earth before shooting. I have mentioned to other off-road recovery RU-vidrs that using a drop down spade could give them much needed staying power when pulling vehicles. I'm so happy to finally see someone using a spade to dig in and pull stuff. I can't wait to see how y'all's beautiful creation performs in the future.

When I turned 18 (20+yrs ago) my boss got me to get my Cdl driving his Tri axles. From the first time I got into the truck he would tell me over and over if I ever get stuck on a site to immediately drop the load. Right before I started driving he got our Rd Mack stuck and they wouldn’t let him dump. The dozer they used to pull him out ripped the front of the truck apart.

Pulldozer is a cool name for the unit someone had mentioned. But the the category of product needs a name too like a “planter box” recovery unit. It plants itself firm and doesn’t move. 😎

Looks like a nice well thought out winch. I particularly like the chains going to the loader arms. Small detail that makes an huge difference as it takes the load of the curl cylinders and therefore the hoses but also takes a lot of the load out of that terrible SSQA.

I hear if you call Yankum ropes directly, they can custom build heavy duty synthetic winch line to whatever spec you need- it would be a lot easier to pull than 1" cable, safer, and did I mention easier to pull? 7/8" yankum winch line is 52,000lb rated

I have got the ring and the wallet and love them both. I’ve had to ring probably about a year or so and I had to Wallet about six months and I love them both. Also a good recovery piece of equipment worked awesome

Wouldn't a tougher silicon ring defeat the purpose of off having a silicon ring instead gild or silver. The silicone ring is supposed to pull off or break when caught in a tool not tough it out and rip the skin off.

I would upgrade that 'mesh' with 1/2" by 6" steel bars on edge, spaced with 2" gaps, just enough to see through. something really capable of stopping a 200 MPH cable and its 400 pound thing it just yanked out of the stuck thing. A 3/4 Lexan panel behind it as a second layer of protection would help too.

(salvages out of the ashes - life from beyond hope) For full power pulling, or double-line full stress action - shorten the boom and redirect to a lower pull point - leverage relative to how deep the blade can be buried - that is key to pulling at ? 110k Lbf (2 "hydraulic stakes"/bearclaws for ultimate anchoring in loose /unstable soil/fill - nail down tpo bedrock.... lol.) - yep the reverse freespool was the smartest way to get the line off the drum... - and the winchbox has a backfill blade for fixing the road... yep I saw what it did... Great what mechanics can do.

Cool machine but to say it would replace wreckers is a stretch I don’t know many companies would would want to take a truck and trailer to a recovery then have to unload this and then hope there’s a place to wedge the blade into the ground if your at a completely off road recovery then sure but for the most part a wrecker boom for heavy recovery and extend out to reach

Awesome bit of kit I’d b wary of not using the synthetic line as a pose to steel and the quick attachment on those skidsteers never seems strong enough to me glad u put the safety chain on as I’d put money on it snapping the locking pins with a lot of weight pulling but she dose look 👌

I agree with others that operator protection needs more frontal 'hardening'. 1/4" steel plate with viewing slits? Eventually you might find that a rear winch for self retrieval will be useful.

I remember seeing this being fabricated and designed some time ago. Looks like it did a great job and a nice unit for a skid steer.

The badger is taken Canadian military Leo C2 with dozer and picker piece of kit. IDE call it the Iron Way. Technically winching towards the heavy iron.. IronWay sounds good too, no other way other then the use of heavy iron to pull off stuff like that.

"Pocket Rock- It" ("Pocket" - for its size & agility. "Rock-It" because this unit ROCKS. Also, "Rock-It" sounds like a Rocket for how fast & speedy the recovery can be.

When I was 6 years old, my adopted father used to take me to work with him all the time, working in the shop on trucks etc... made me laugh seeing the kid jump in... I would like to suggest one thing, a roller top and bottom of the cable where it passes over the blade, for safety, if the cable ever snaps, the rollers will help stop whip lash and possibly a face full of cable. Yep I know, you put the screen but you know old man Murphy, I know him well and with over 40 years heavy equipment exp., I've pulled a truck or two out in my day. Blades at the back of the frame that go into the ground like a tree spade, where the frame angles from blade to mount, it would form a V and if you can get 3 feet of penetration, yes I know IF... for soft soil conditions mostly, or make the teeth in the front much longer, extension caps maybe so you have the option of short and long. Here's an interesting trick an old guy taught me, when using a dump truck to pull out a stuck one ( provided it's loaded of course, the pulling truck ) pull from the front, as the load is behind you, gives you more pulling power, you just have to make sure the line does not snap or you are gonna need a rad at least :)
