I love the 400ex so much. Especially 2005 and later when they added reverse. Honda really needs to bring it back. Great videos man!

@michaelsabo I really enjoy the 400ex series videos, I grew up with this particular year model and you were the baddest person on the block if you had a yellow 400ex in the early 2000’s so it’s fun watching someone bring one back to life

Hey Heads up man! I am a mechanic for ATV's and so on... The valve cover Gasket ALWAYS leaks, it's just a shim for some reason Honda put that in there to act as a spacer rather them a "gasket" it is a problem with these bikes and the XR bikes. once the valve cover bolts are loosened they warp slightly and they never go back to normal shape. he fix for this is either to have both of those parts machined perfectly flat together OR cheap easy and just as reliable is to ""upgrade" a Paper or Composite gasket is the best fix in all honesty what I have learned. I have worked on so many 400EX's and XR 350's and XR400's they all are almost identical. Anyways I have installed many composite style valve cover gaskets. You need to look on eBay for a composite style Gasket it's cheaper and will NOT leak. ALSO keep an eye out for a head gasket to blow it's also VERY VERY common on 400EX's after the head has been removed for some reason the head bolts start pulling the aluminum with in the first 10 to 20 hours of ride time and it's a head ache. Hope you don't have that happen to you but if you do (or What I Would Highly Suggest doing) the GT Thunder Head Stud up Grade and comedic head gasket. Other then that I buy OEM parts through RockyMountain ATV/MC as well. Hey dude I just picked up a 500lb hydraulic lift table from harbor freight. Slides right under most quads. Lifts them up pretty hi... you should look into getting one. Thing works great

No doubt the o-ring chains make a big difference. on my 125 it absolutely robs the bottom end. ride on .

Sounds way better. Deeper tone, quicker revs come in sooner, and less smoke. Probly from those new valve seals and seats👍

i had the same problem with my 400ex valve cover with the same gaskets i took the bolts out and torqued them easily starting at 5 and increased 1ft-lb at a time and that fixed it for me fixed it

I have a 2003 400ex and I rebuilt it, and put in the same gaskets you did and it leaks oil out of the head out of the cam cover too.

That's the1st Honda I ever bought, 2001 yellow 400ex, awesome quad

I had an 01 400 with a 440 big bore kit and pro circuit slip on and man did it rip. It was all blacked out with plastic. It looked and sounded badass. Wish I would have held onto it. Traded it for Tahoe and that guy traded it for quadzilla.

Mike, Try opening up the factory header pipe by grinding down the welds a bit on the flanges in the cylinder end of the pipe..

Keep the skits coming and I think you should put more in depth videos on the 400ex.. it was the first quad I built 407 piston 11:1 compression stage 3 hot cam and full amr monster ignition i was 16 and scraped every penny together working weekends and in during summer I am a trx fan for sure

Take the the tip off the exhaust and reject the carb it will make it a lot louder I did it to my trx 250ex and it runs perfect and sounds amazing

I had a KFX 400 but I heard the 400ex are also pretty fun!!

The 400 are a nice ride and they are really dependable if you don't do to much hot rod Modifications.

I had to buy three cheap gasket kits for my 400ex, to get the proper case gasket. Definitely had to use a thin layer of gasket maker on the cam cover to seal it.

Again bro i look forward to the skits... and love the 400 ... it sounds bout the same except it does sound healthier...

I have a 1999 400ex and I have big gun slip on exhaust and I would say it’s a good exhaust for the money
