Great review. Stability shoes get no love lol. Hopefully that changes in 2022. Looking forward to the Saucony Tempus.

Trying to balance stability and squish is a tough game. I'm sure the last thing New Balance wants to have is a shoe that's labelled as a stability shoe, but by giving it the same level of squish as the Rebel V2 would result in a lot of unhappy customers and returned shoes due to people having lower leg pain.
@RunLikeHeller
@RunLikeHeller 2 года назад
True, but maybe even half of the cushioning the rebel had would be nice lol

Well, regards to the firmness, it’s suppose to be a stability shoe ain’t it? I’d bet it has something to do with that. Imagine having the same midsole compound as the rebel v2, and then sell it as a stability shoe. That will never happen. I love the rebel v2, but it kills my legs, unless I’m super concentrated with my strides, then it ruins my right ancle where I pronate. However, form the run footage, it looks like it keeping your pronation on your right foot pretty good in check. You should give this a try, and see if it’s soften up. And then update us pronating guys :)

There are some shoes that feel so great on the first run but lose its appeal after another run or two. Then there are some shoes that did not impress on that first run but become more to your liking after several runs. I know my Ride 14 was like that. I thought the midsole was firm when many RU-vid shoe reviewers were saying just the opposite. But after several runs, my feet got used to the shoes and the midsole seemed to feel more comfortable. Another example was the Nike Invincible. I loved my first run in it. But over time, I noticed the instability and the bounciness was not always consistent. It seemed like it was heavy and bulky. So I hope you can put in more miles in this pair and give us a second round of this review. Also, is it possible that because you were focused on comfy shoes for your marathon training and the actual race, that firmer shoes feel even more firmer? LOL. Thank you for this video again.

I was wondering the same thing about being used to more comfy shoes IE hoka then going to this one and it being 'firm'.
@jefejeffwell1113
@jefejeffwell1113 2 года назад
It’s not the most comfy ride, but they work well on my shorter daily runs. I overall like the shoe, but it’s not my first choice. Rebels, 1080’s, Mores, and my Skechers Excess are more of the go to shoes.

Thanks for reviewing these; I was curious about them. I overpronate, and it's usually not an issue, but the Rebels make me feel like I'm going to break my ankle in them. It's a shame because they're so much fun other than that! Hopefully NB will get the Prism right one of these days. I just want a little more support, nothing too crazy.

Your foot strike looks really good in the Prism V2! Maybe it just needs a few more miles to open up more?

LOL love the "Let's go Lakers" chant, even though I despise that team. I never thought about the shoe resembling their colors, but you're right! I hope those shoes break in a little bit more with subsequent runs. That's really weird that NB would release something like that. And yaaay for the return of Ruby!

I haven't tried the Prsim shoes, only the Propels 1&2, the midsole in the Propel V2 was rock hard (SL20 type hard) out of the box, It does start to give and break in to the more familiar Fuel Cell feel over a few K's. While it does give plenty of cushioning after its broken in, the Foam in the Propel V2 has a more elasticated feel rather than the soft marshmallowy feel of other Fuel Cell foams (quite a thick outsole doesn't help either). Its easy to see that if people are expecting the really soft fuel cell, they're probably not going to get on with this type of fuel cell, but I personally do prefer it, the very soft fuel cell causes lower leg/ankle pain after a while,so I tend to avoid. Problem is you're never really sure which type of fuel cell your going to get with what shoe.

Thanks for the review Emily as always. Yup, I am a fan of my Rebel V's---light and lots of pep in my steps. Pure fun under the sun or clouds or what have you. Warning, me personally, I had to go a half size up for primo fit.

I think shoe makers over think and over engineer stability shoes. I feel like a bit more medial arch support, a slight tilt in the sole under the heel or a bit of reinforcement in the midsole , and that slightly more rigid heel wrap is enough. Otherwise, build it the same as its neutral siblings.

i found this model to be very stark... it feels wooden and runs very long... almost like cross country skiing. maybe a good shoe if you are wanting to transition into barefoot running, but definitely not the same fuelcell as rebel v3! it would be kind of new balance to 'grade' the softness of their fuelcell foams.

Just found this review as I run in stability and am looking for a lighter, faster shoe for tempo/fast work days. Firmed shoes do help my left foot to hurt less as these new high stack foam shoes really hurt my arch for some reason. Loved the review and please keep reviewing stability shoes!!! Subscribed!

I had similar impressions about this shoe. I wanted to like the Prism v2 but it just fell short of expectations. It runs flat with underwhelming cushioning in the midsole, as you described. I quickly relegated it to a treadmill-only shoe. I had much more success with the Rebel v2.

I may give this one a try. I don't like shoes that are too mushy or soft for most of my runs. Although the 1080 is amazing on recovery or slow days.

I find New Balance & Adidas sizings always come up small and I have to go up half or full size in order to get a good fit in comparison to other makes.

As an over pronator runner, which is your favourite stability shoes? Do you prefer the Vongo v5 over this shoe? Thanks for your videos 😀

I loved the Vongo v5 until it made my foot numb on two runs. it was super sad. i think overall i still prefer the vongo over this shoe. or the arahi 5 by Hoka

I think It’s really hard, I noticed the same with asics, the naming system is actually really weird. I believe and can totally be wrong but I think the rebel series has fuel cell foam that’s nitrogen infused. I think this is just fuel cell foam without it and also a denser foam. I pronate the same as you & I can’t do stability either because it’s bothers me arch but I would 100 percent recommend the Reebok float ride energy 3 it’s definitely my shoe of the year for 2021. And it’s 100 dollars or lower sometimes if you use honey 😅
