We got somewhere in the realm of 14" of snow in a couple of days. Unfortunately, we couldn't get out on after the first night to make a video. So we drove over the snow a lot before getting out after the second night. Still, our John Deere 1025R with the HLA Snow Pusher and MK Martin Pull-Type Snow Blower did a good enough job. We just should have prepped for winter better!

Good Works Tractors is happy to be sponsored by Rim Guard Solutions! This is perhaps the most well-known ballast brand on the market today. Rim Guard goes right inside your tires, so it's out of the way, it doesn't freeze, and doesn't corrode. It's made from natural materials, so it's safe around livestock and pets if it spills out. Rim Guard liquid ballast adds more weight to the back side of your tractor improving stability, loader performance, and power to the ground. Find your closest dealer at bit.ly/3d0whX0

I have markers on order, but our first snow came about 6 weeks early. I am not sure what to do, but I think I am going to be forced to find the edge of the driveway and put the markers in frozen ground. I like the snowblower you have and wish something like that would work here, but the 4 foot drifts I get sort of rule that concept out.

Ended up getting that front quick hitch plow (bx2812a) after checking out my uncles FEL trip blade on his B2650. He doesn't have loaded tires but had a pretty good weight rack on a quick hitch mount with a bunch of extra chains on the rear, it still shook the body of that tractor quite a bit. I figured keeping that blade in closer and lower will be safer and more compact, plus I can then just swap between by blower or plow with the same front mount. Then my emergency plan is, if needed, to put the bucket back on for big snow piles. I am thinking I probably will still want wheel weights added, and some versa brackets down the line. I was also looking at the Boss ExactPath 2.5, maybe the 6.0, for some added weight and utility on top of counter ballast.

Last winter I bought an HLA 2500 snow pusher for my Kubota L6060. Those who made negative comments about an HLA snow pusher on the front end loader have evidently never used it. It is, by far, the best attachment I have. The ability to flip it to allow me to back drag within inches of my garage and shop doors is genius. No more tipping a full loader bucket. Push snow in piles as high as your loader arms can go with only the vertical lift function on the joystick. Courtney, did I mention that you need a heated cab tractor in winter? Regards from snowy north Ontario.

I know there are some kits available but I used some heavy rubber conveyor belting bolted to the ends of the paddles works good. @foonus406
@foonus406 Год назад
Man that looks like such a beautiful work not having to worry about keeping the blower off every gravel covered ridge or bump to prevent it from picking gravel into the blower. Not so much fun on country roads and driveways that aren't landsaped. The snow pusher is completely out of the game in this situation, best you can use is a blower (you need to keep raising and lowering the whole job not to pick gravel), or a snow bucket that takes ages to clean the ridges you've left after yourself. The blower does have 2 feet on the back of it but they only seem to dig into and displace any lose top gravel when pressure is put on them, leaving huge gouges behind you. We generally can't side stack along the side of the lane, as the next snowfall will drift over it even higher... the wind has a habit of finding where you last piled and blowing directly across it to create the biggest drifts possible. This combined with trees right next to the lane also prevents us from using a blade. Any tips for snow removal on rough gravel roads or laneways which implement would you use, and are there any special accessories that would help?? Thanks for the video.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors Год назад
Gravel is tough, especially when not frozen. Raise skid shoes or skid runners really high, so even when it sinks down, it minimizes the gravel moved. Run a rear blade backwards so it glides instead of digs....once frozen, it's much easier.

And that's just by one garage entrance Door. The blower takes care of everything else.

You need to think about where all the water from snow melt goes when deciding where to put snow. No need to make the spring thaw worse than necessary. Have never used that type of drive forward rear blower. Never could understand driving over snow and compacting than trying to than scrape and blow away. Always have used front blowers on my tractors. 2038 with 60" front beast of a blower, and prior a 545 with a 49"? blower followed up with a 60" broom. Broom was absolutely the best snow clearer. Swept down to clean pavement as long as you didn't drive on first.

Good call on spring melt. Probably not often thought about. The blowers don't care about snow that's just been driven over. Canada and Europe have used them for years. Highly successful commercial companies use pull types exclusively. They are awesome.

Nothing better - if you have a mid mount pto - Use a front snowblower, and rear blade on the three point hitch. Heating cab is a plus. But you can grab snow with the rear blade away front a garage door and the front blower is easy to blow snow and you don't have to run over the snow first with your tractor tires.

Next time, let's see you tackle the driveway with a plow set to 45 degrees angle. You should be able to roll in high range WOT. Using the blower on the pad seems like an exercise in extra work because you are constantly shuffling the same snow. That's where a wide pusher ought to excel, eh ? Instead of marking the pathway, I use my vehicle to I.D. the central path BEFORE the snow gets too deep. The tracks remain visible, no matter what the next snowfall brings. The plow will easily wipe/scrape the snow tracks when plowing. My 7' pusher stores enough snow to make the full length of my pad. I don't try to use the whole width of it in each pass. Maybe 3/4, so I have enough snow 'storage' in it. The size of the pad should define the amount of underlap needed. A plow also lets you get your road done in case the Road Commission drops the ball and vehicles need to get out to town ! Your neighbors will be thrilled that you did this. Thrilled == customers ! I always make sure sure my fuel tank is FULL to the brim. Heavy snow means low atmospheric air pressure and high humidity, and this condition invites water vapor getting into diesel if air is in the tank, when the pressure drops. I also encourage you to show (and trust) other members of the family to do this if they are capable, just in case you are not there when plowing is necessary. Good for bonding with them, too ! Builds trust ! That might mean you get stuck with laundry & vacuuming jobs as part of this 'bond', but it's worth it ! Ha Ha. It goes without saying, that a quick attach loader feature lets me switch between a plow and a pusher very quickly & easily, no driveshaft to manipulate.

80"-81" officially in South Buffalo. Cripes! Two years ago, we got 40" in a day near Binghamton, NY - that was enough! I use my 54" rotary brush on my x739 for the 1-4" "nuisance" snows (my driveway is about 450' long). For the bigger snows, I use my big Simplicity 24" thrower (industrial model, not big box) - I call it "The Beast" and it pays for itself every time that it gets used! When I get too old and cranky to walk behind the Simplicity, I'll put a JD thrower on one of the x739's. I also have a loader bucket (The Little Bull) on my second x739 should I ever need that. Great video, great timing. Up in Nova Scotia Canada. Have a question related to snowplow and angle cylinders. Just finishing up a fab on a snow plow using a light surplus plow from another tractor for a 1025R. I know you can get a third function kit that can be used to accommodate the angle function for the plow. I was thinking (very dangerous) if you could actually use the bucket curl function instead. Could you disconnect the quick disconnects from the bucket curl and repurpose for the angle. The real question is whether the location of the bucket when you disconnect would stay fixed with the residual pressure in the cylinders. I don't think it would hurt to have a bit of play and this would be the vertical angle of attack, but you wouldn't want it to be real sloppy. Thoughts???

@@GoodWorksTractors I don't doubt their efficacy. But snow has a wide variety of composition (just ask the Eskimos). Our flaky New England Winters can dump anything from a wet, soggy snow (challenging for any blower or blade) to a light fine powdery snow that makes snowblowing a pleasure. The soggy stuff really sticks to my gravel drive and if one drives on it before clearing the snow, I wind up blowing a lot more of it (the gravel) thru the snowblower. Does wonders for the paint.

It's very helpful to see the different methods of snow removal. It seems like each has advantages and disadvantages. In todays high gas prices, I'm a bit concerned about efficiency more than in the past. If one drags a pile a snow out and then returns to take the next pass (like the back-dragging), then you're wasting time and gas on the return trip. It seems like using a pusher requires frequent use of reverse/forward gear changes to drop the snow to the side and then get back to path, again wasted motion and hard on the equipment. Blowers are good for only certain types of snow (depends on the moisture content of the snow). It seems like angled plows are best for long roads, but not for wide areas near the house. Perhaps an adjustable V-plow would have the functionality of both the plow and the pusher? - can you demo one of those?
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors Год назад
Yep, always pros and cons to each. I can see fuel costs being a bigger consideration if doing it commercially. Can't imagine the fuel price increase adds up to much significance on a tractor for a private residence. A pusher can be had for half the price of a blower for example. That is where some big moolah could be saved.
