Mike you lucky son. That engine bay is so clean and the exterior is very nice for the age. Can't wait for the full tour I saw the center console has the usual cracked and broken trim but I bet the rest is immaculate. Loving the content as usual.

Finally a W140, i have the same vehicle, same m119 engine...400sel, The car hadn't moved for 5years, I simply replaced the fuel pump and started right up, its currently one of my favorite cars
Very very cool Mike. Cars with great back stories are even more interesting than the car itself sometime. Even with the minor flaws previewed the interior itself is beautiful shape as is the exterior. Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

The oil gauge showed 0 pressure so I hope you don't go joy riding before filling it up. You were at the gas station where you could have put some air in the tires. Hope you have an air pump at home. That guy told about the bullet proof glass was nuts. Looks like a pretty clean car. Can't wait to see the next saga.
You should put together a toolbox with a bunch of basic tools to take with you. Set of sockets, set of wrenches, set of plyers, air pump, and a few other essentials.
With it apparently having belonged to a state governor who ended up in the big house then having the armoured version might have made sense. It looks like at least one of your parking posts is working correctly, so that's good. I suspect the misbehaving oil pressure gauge is down to a failing sender unit, the engine itself sounds really healthy and they tend to get very clacky very quickly if they really don't have oil pressure... You can't argue with a free 500, and the fact that it's a really early W140 has got to make it a rare car now. It's also very nice that the rear badge still says 500SEL and no-one has tried to make it look newer than it is by changing it to say S500...

The paint is really nice on that car. It starts really good too. Whats next will I can tell you fix the flat buy a brand new tire I guess. I think you may have ruined the side wall on that tire driving it so much flat and it would probably blow out later when you least expect it. I think you got a good car man. yes I know you had to drive while flat. Next time get a air tank to bring with you on car pick ups like you do the jump box. buy and aluminum air tank we use to call them air pigs.

IIRC, a double hit of the lock button on the remote holding it down on the second tap and facing the driver’s door would have closed the window for you...

My first Mercedes was this type. W140.. the only thing I didn't like abt it was gas consumption. This car is completely tanky. Comfortable and very low decibels inside. Am now looking for 600SEL or 99 S600L same car same engine just probably wire harness updated..let see more video pls.
