Time to get Monkey Wrench Mike’s free Mercedes out on the road. If you haven’t watch the videos in this series, MWM was given a free Mercedes 500SEL that hadn’t moved since 2008. Now she needs a VIN inspection to be legal and that requires a roadtrip! But don’t assume it’s a joyride, because you never k ow with MWM!

Can we just appreciate that this almost 30 year old car that was just sitting runs almost silently. She could have stalled because when filling it up you disturbed all the rubbish and sediment at the bottom of tank so once it all settled down again she started running again

Hey mike did I notice the oil pressure gauge not working ????? Think you might want to change the fuel pump and fuel filter ASAP . That fuel pump is on its way out !! Don’t trust it Chang it

Hey Mike it's Freeda lol 🤣🤣🤣 only thing I can think of is when you put the cleaner and fresh gas ⛽ in it might have stirred up some sediment in the tank because of it sitting and might have messed with the tiny little screens in the injectors. Glad you made it home safely.

It probably has some water in the gas tank. When cars sit for long time sometimes they draw moisture in the gas tank. Put a can of heat in it. It will get rid of the water. Temps of hot and cold weather make humidity in the gas tank it happens.

When the fuel pumps works don't change them, instead look for air in the fuel . I had same problem with my 1990 500Sl ,I installed new fuel accumulator and the problem was gone.

Hey 👋 mike pull out that really old kenwood CD player and get you a new Bluetooth radio , you can get a nice pioneer ,kenwood or Sony with aux Bluetooth and usb for under $100 sounds like the fuel pump took a shi!

100 percent sure that's a fuel issue. Compression sounds great, very even. Had a fuel pump die on my ml320, did the same thing where it fires on a few cylinders but doesn't run.

Sounds like the crank sensor is bad when it gets hot doesn't work then gets cool and starts

Hey Mike, I would invest in a good after market radio. I had a bluehair Aunt Dora that I would listen to as she sat in the back seat and told me how to drive. A radio is a much better option. Especially if it's loud enough to drown out Aunt Dora.

It sounds like a vapor locked next time for it and hold it down while you're cranking it it might start then

If its the m119 V8 with distributer caps then that's the classic m119 stall out. Due to the m119 caps not coming with enough ventilation groves to displace moisture. What happens is when the motor starts to warm up the condensation gathers under the caps and it misfires and dies. Wait 30 mins or so and it would likely start again. Permanent fix is to cut more ventilation slots in the caps

And the plastic insulator discs behind same are best replaced also as they can have micro cracks in them. Bosch sell them too so not a dealer only item. Love your channel keep up the great work! I have 11 MBs myself but not much time lately to progress like you do

Been there. In 2015 my then girlfriend moved from PA to AR. we took her and the car to DMV for drivers license and tag. Got tag. Went out to car. Turned the key. Car made a funny noise and smoke rolls out from under the hood. Crispy crunchy roasty toasty starter. Came home on a tow truck. 1500 miles and drick. 2002 Dodge NEON. yeah.
