GREAT JOB & I'm facing the same thing but mine is all BURIED UNDER the dash. Benz really put that in a great spot. Randy may have check function with a meter but YOU got it and 'bless you' for what you take on. Your fleet is your decompression in life and you benefit in many ways + please all of us! Thank you sir! Sonny
You should always assume, that the moving part fails first. I would even grease up that motor shaft. That white grease is thermal compound, which you should replace. Same stuff that a computer CPU uses. Easies radio replacement would be, to get another Kenwood, wiring is already done. Just make sure that uses the same plug.
Mike love your videos as always. You're very comical. Fixing sell, more money means closer to buying a Bentley. Then again I really don't know why you want to buy one of those headaches.
Soo, just like you Mike, I thought I had a bad control panel, I changed it out. I also changed out the blower motor resistor. Only to learn later on that my blower motor had a short. I just got done installing a new one. Consistent cold air is a beautiful thing! Wrench On!
That's what I always look for first is the blower motor, but with a Mercedes I probably would have done it like you because of all the fancy gadgets and over engineering. Glad you got it fixed. Dang Legend is becoming a horse lol 🤣🤣🤣 thank you Mike.
Blower motors, when they sit for a prolonged period, seize up. In the future, get to the motor and give the squirrel cage a spin. Hopefully this is a lesson in troubleshooting? You REALLY need a pickup to haul things. Since you don't have the ML anymore, a pickup is a necessity for what you're doing. 👍🇺🇸
Hey wait just one darn tooting minute I just saw you where in Florida with your sister and today we get a video. Someone get this man an emmy for being the hardest working you tuber. Lol thanks for giving us some great content while you take a few well earned days to yourself and your family. Stay safe and God speed.
I'm surprised this car still has the 19 85 part number HVAC control unit as that was a known fault and warranty issue with these when they were still pretty new. Merc replaced that unit with the 20 85 unit with many upgraded components inside to cure the issue, which was caused by components inside the unit breaking down with time and use. Clearly this car has either been off the road for a very long time, or the early owners didn't use the HVAC system very much and the unit didn't fail out as they often did very quickly, which would be very surprising indeed. Even in the UK, with a more temperate climate, these units failed out very quickly indeed... I would say you're right to have swapped out the control unit anyway as trying to run the partially seized original fan motor will almost certainly have overloaded and burnt out components inside the original unit, which is exactly the type of failure they were known for even with the ventilation fan working correctly... Genuinely cool...
Monkey 🐒 Wrench 🔧 Mike! Oh the Frohlocken! I had the same issue with my blower when I got my 560 last year - first thing I fixed before I did anything else so the defrost would work. The blower motors get stuck when the car sit for a long time. I was lucky and got my blower motor to work again. I used WD 40 and once I could turn the motor by hand again, I applied 12V to the motor and let the blower run for 48 hours straight - periodically spraying WD 40 on the oil lite bushings - motor was squealing a bit at low speed but that disappeared now after running at high speed all summer - now it’s all good I got a used regulator on eBay for 25 bucks with free shipping back then too because the original was defective as well. My ACC was fine but I replaced all electrolytic capacitors for good measures. Nice car and I hope it will find a good owner. I am looking for another 600SEL or S600 as my next project. Your buddy Peter from Kansas
Did you guys know ,according to google and Wikipedia, these w140s came with engines as small as 2.8L (no diesel, probably so slow and the engine blew after some miles trying to pull that heavy beast around let alone with passengers!) up to a amg v12 7.3L and it also came in a 5 speed manual!! Can u imagine this car in a manual?!? Talk about RARE!, I think it would be neat and I’d love to try to drive one and see how she rode and drove!!
Mike, invest in a tool called a power probe. You can use it as a basic test light, check continuity, shoot a power or a ground. It's gotten a bit pricey since I bought mine in 2000 but it'll save you $$ and time
Hey, you forgot the music for the first time lapse, but no issue I imagined the Benny Hill music instead. Will you addresses the windshield? And remember Cato the censor? "Furthermore, I consider that building a W140 Red Pig out of the golden Benz requires no extra Radio." 😁😁
Are the Mercedes just like general motors in regards to the resistors going out on the blower motors and then the blower motors only working on certain speeds are not working at all because that was my first thought I probably wouldn’t replace the control unit because usually if it’s not blowing it’s not a control unit problem it’s a blower motor problem and that’s where I would’ve started my diagnosis but to each his own my friend you know Ben’s more than I do I never worked or mess with one keep up the good work we love your videos keep them coming faster faster faster please
I have taken the wood piece off my console several times and never broken that plastic piece. The trick is to pry the wood piece up first. It will then push the plastic piece up. Then it will just pop off with no prying on it. You probably need to have your a/c checked for charge since the car sat for so long. I want to see more on the e500.
It's always the blower motor. This is a maintenance item that nobody takes care of. You are supposed to oil the bearings of the fan on a regular basis.
Only saw the first part of the title, and thought Mike might see the dr. for that issue! Then, I saw it was the car and not Mike! Hmm.. a pickup truck..... Foreign, or maybe domestic? Guess we will have to stay tuned.......
If it drives as it should, and is clean title, I want to be first in line to buy it. Only thing to be done would be windshield. Even if it is a cheapie radio, that is fine. If you would email me a price you think would work as we have discussed previously. This would be $ to go towards your objective.
Hey Mike it's called a blower motor resistor . Not a regulator . And always go to the blower motor first if you have no fan working . It's usually the resistor or the blower motor . Sometimes a bad condition . Nooooo Mike you can install the radio yourself . Don't go to best buy 😳
🤔 Hmmm, let’s see, you want to work your way up to a Bentley, (should be a Maybach😳) and you are asking what you should do with Freeda. HAIL YAS sell her and use the funds to keep trucking towards your Maybach (er, Bentley) 👍👍👍
never and i mean never get bet buy install anything and i mean anything... not even a radio in your car... they half A** it... and do a sloppy job at it... and they never clean after themselves.. yes they leave your car a mess...
