This episode was a ~37 minute roller coaster with nothing coming easy, so all the sweeter when it all came together. So cool to feel like part of this. We saw the troubleshooting for the cam sensor and settings review but not what got 'ya to realizing the lack of crank sensor so quickly. Look forward to seeing it head'n down the road soon!
Very cool to see all the hard work paying off and the beast come to life michael!! 💪🏼😎 sounds amazing and idling so smooth already before any tuning. 👌
Right on - congratulations! I hope you also document and share the Haltech calibration experience. Curious as to how much of the tuning is canned and how much you have to do from scratch.
That is so exciting!!! I have the same motor that I am putting in a 914. Congrats on getting it running. It is the happiest day when you here the motor start for the first time. Keep the content coming.
I’ve been with you since episode 1 and this is one of the greatest moments That motor that’s seen rolling around the floor in the intro is installed, running and sounds awesome. Congrats, the hard work is paying off!
Congratulations! This moment, together with when you receive the body painted, I think is the best moments of a build. So no need to say I have enjoyed it too, the whole build. Keep going, it sounds great!
Incredible! I've watched the part at around 32:00 like ten times already. My EZ30R is sitting next to my 914 waiting for a moment like this. Poor Ben didn't know what was coming for him!
Mike what a milestone for you and us passengers who are with you every mile. It's soooo awesome to hear that beast. Congratulations and, as usual, she's the muts nutz!!!!
I came to your channel through Jay Jarvie’s Builder Creator channel and his video on the rear deck/scoop he is building for you. Glad I checked out your channel, I’m a Porsche guy, and while I like them original I think it’s great that you found a way to get this old 911 back on the road, even if that road will be a track. I’m all for doing whatever it takes to keep these beautiful cars alive, and sometimes 100% pure may not be the answer. If you don’t mind a suggestion, I love the color you chose it looks awesome. Consider painting your wheels in a Macintosh apple red, I know it sounds crazy but I once saw an early 911 resto-mod in a similar green to yours, the guy painted the wheels in red and it looked amazing I know this sounds crazy but pick up a Macintosh apple and look at the reds and greens in the apple, it will make sense when you see it, Mother Nature has a way of getting it right when it comes to colors. Good luck with your build and I can’t wait to see the first track video.
I just cranked through a ton of these videos - I have a newborn so I’ve been stuck watching RU-vid. Question on the haltech - does it use the Subaru stock cold start settings? This is always the hardest thing to get right on a standalone ECU. Does it seem like it will be daily drive able with that haltech?
I love @26:26 your assistant tech, Ben, comes flying around the drivers door to take a look at the color of the exhaust. Ben knows Subaru. Congratulations on the first fire! Hey Haltech - Nick deserves a trip to SEMA 2023…
Congratulations on starting your engine! I am very happy too! And... I was impressed by the very, very good sound! ! You've overcome another obstacle! I want to see you running soon. Thank you for your hard work. From far away Japan...Hama.
Now this is awesome. Been wanting to do a build myself but, I wanna do something not everyone and their neighbors have done. Early Boxster w Subaru EG33 or the EZ30 was what I was thinking about, I imagine it'd be easier to fit instead of something like an LY7 3.6/VQ37de or even an LSX. With early Boxsters being dirt cheap cuz of the crap engine, makes it a cheaper, easier way to have a mid-engine performance car. Esp add in a pair of EFR7163's or GTX3076's or Single EFR 7384/GTX4088 or 4294, and it'd be a hell of a party that'll embarrass those $100+k cars.
Wow! So worth the wait! I loved the "disappointment interlude"- seriously made me LOL. Also- Ben's high five was epically faked! Also loved watching Ben's shock when it started the first couple of times for 2 seconds- Love Ben. That sounds awesome and congratulations! The rest is going to be so fun to watch you create now that it actually runs. This is the PERFECT swap motor for this car- and I say that as a guy that builds Porsche motors all day long. You da man!
@@rennch. We build all years of air-cooled Porsches- from the 356's to the final 993's. Just wrapped up a 3.6 Turbo motor- about to start a 3.6 from a 964 Speedster- and doing a re-seal on a 3.3 Turbo this week. Had two 356's and two 912's last month- so - all of them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I'm "apprenticing" at a local well-known shop and loving it. What used to be a terrible mystery is now just layers of learning ;-)
What a ride you have taken everyone on, and how sweet does it sound, congratulations on the engine start and what an awesome beast that you have constructed, cheers Greg
Well done mate, what a milestone! Clearly the baseline tune was good for the Subaru motor. It settled into an idle very easily. Surprised the motor didn't have the trigger wheel already installed when you bought it. Can't wait to see what comes next!
My ej20t in the Vw beetle had cam and crank angle sensors round the wrong way and then the wires were too thick and it was not registering the pulse from the sensor. Congrats on your build brother!
Fantastic Michael. - It's a live! So much joy when stuff works. Sucks big time when it does not. Glad it is running - Did you have coolant in ?? Need to let her run and get to temp and make sure your cooling system is free of air and works perfectly. Going to be interesting how you run twin turbo to the intercoolers to the inlet manifolds. some crazy plumbing I am sure .
