FIRST TBR OF 2024 || January Reading Plans 

☁️ I'll be starting my first read of stormlight next month-so excited

☁️ I'm halfway through The Final Empire. I'm planning to finish Mistborn Era One in January. I also need to finish Valor. I had to pause it because there's a battle coming and I know everyone I love can't survive 🥺☁️

☁ My plans are very simple, but also might be too much for me: I'm at 77% of Return of the Crimson Guard, so I plan on finishing that, and I also have to read Babel for a readalong and, if possible, I want to start Toll the Hounds as well. We'll see how it goes

Jackalope Wives was the first T Kingfisher we read, and still our favorite of all her works. Good luck with following your joy! Such a great plan for how to start your year.

How is it almost 2024 already, 2023 just flew in ! I'm so happy you are liking Warchild, I saw those new covers and had to get the first one to try out. My priority next year is to continue to read more Historical/Horror/Scifi and Classics, as this year I've read a couple horror classics, and American Modern Classics and they've been fantastic (Zora Neale Hurston I might need to binge all of their works). Really need to get to My Heart is A Chainsaw, but hopefully can buddy read that with my horror club. The author I'm most excited to get to next year, although may get to her this year is Mary Renault, I've been meaning to pick her books up for a while, and I really want to see what LGBT books written in the 50s were like.

Deep sky is fun, not a 5 star fave but definitely enjoyable, who doesn’t love an all female space mystery

Yes yes yes! My reading goals for this year are all about following the joy and excitement, because I have the same difficulty mixing funtime hobby and wanting to challenge myself. Bujold is such a gem of an author! Finished Paladin of Souls yesterday and it just reminded me how much more from her I need to read. Glad you are continuing to love Vorkosigan! Have a bunch of those sitting on my shelves waiting already 😅 Happy new year!

Yay, finally more Bujold! I also plan to read some T. Kingfisher this month. Right after I finish the audiobook for System Collapse, I will hopefully be starting either A House with Good Bones or Thornhedge. ☁

I'm also working my way through Bujold and I think there are 2 novellas in the reading order that come between Master's Apprentice and Vor Game - The Mountains of Mourning and Weatherman. Hopefully they are not as long as a Sanderson novella. I have just gone back to read Falling Free which was a really interesting (prequel???) which does not connect to Miles or the Vorkosigan family as far as I am aware. Really thankful I am getting the audio's free on audible.

I’ve just started The Way of Kings after listening to all the book tubers say such amazing things about it. Also will be reading Ashes of Man by Christopher Ruocchhio, The Vanished Birds and the Dragon’s Path by Daniel Abrahams. January is going to be good 😊

This is the first year ever that I've got an actual TBR for a month. I am not sure how I feel about it as usually am a mood reader. For different book groups I've got Mort, Winterdance, and The Witch and the Tsar. And then I've got the newest Wayward Children book and whatever library hold comes in first from the 12 recs by 12 friends list I got. Oh...and a middle grade with my youngest for homeschool.

I’m confident that you will enjoy The Vor Game - it is lots of fun and has all the bells and whistles you expect from Bujold. I’m currently just starting Brothers In Arms as I do my annual reread (okay started in December). ☁️

I agree that Bujold and T Kingfisher have a similar feel. I actually found T Kingfisher because Lois McMaster Bujold reviews her books on Goodreads. I might also recommend Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie which is a just bonkers romance because I think she has a similar humor to both of them and Bujold reads her and reviews her books and Crusie reads both Kingfisher and Bujold so I consider them my trifecta that I discovered through each other.

I love your goal of adding ‘Joy’. I started mood reading last year, and it’s really helped me. So I’ll be continuing that. Also, I’m endeavouring to go through my 5-6 star reads of the last 5 years and make sure I’ve got lots of similar books on my TBR ❤

☁️ 🌧️ I’m setting a low reading challenge (number of books to read) this year, because I really want to focus on quality instead of quantity. I also want to read more big books, like Le Guin’s collected novellas and short stories. Those two books have been on my shelves for 5 years. And this year will truly be the year I finally read the Farseer trilogy and the Broken Earth series.

☁️ Ahh, so this is why The Deep Sky showed up in my libby! I just started it. I'm enjoying the setup, but we shall see how it goes because I'm not a mystery lover. Freedom is a Constant Struggle is great, but I recommend spreading out the read because the content (while very important) can get repetitive because it's a collection of her interviews.

I'm just about to finish Bryony and Roses, and thank you for praising Nettle & Bone, because I was in a slump and then I decided to read N&B, and they are both _so delightful_ and now I'm just looking up what else of hers I can read next.🥳

☁☁ I wanna start off the year strong. For the past three years, the first book i read in every year was a disappointment, so i want 2024 to be different. I'm currently thinking to start off the year with The Grace of Kings. I already started that one in September, but then other things just got priority and it fell to the wayside, but what i read i really enjoyed, so i think that one has a great chance of breaking the curse

Love Clockwork Boys! My recommendation would be to also get a hold of the sequel soon as the duology reads better as sort of one big book 📚

☁️ I plan to reread The Way of Kings in January too. This is my third time reading it and it’s a comfort read at this point.

☁☁☁January will be mood-reading heavy but I plan to participate in Winterween. It is a week-long readathon where we read winter books and it's witch themed. Highly doubt I will follow the exact prompts, but I will try. Hoping to read a classic or two to start my reading year strong. I read The Deep Sky earlier this year and thought it was a solid book. Didn't love it, but I like it enough. I hope you and your Patreon have a good time with it.

I’m finally going to be reading the Stormlight Archive this year now that the first arc is concluding, hopefully they live up to all the hype. I e put of the Sunlit Man as well as I’ve heard it’s better if you’ve read some Stormlight so I’ll get to that to later this year. In January I’m planning on rereading all the SJM books coz I’m psycho and with Crescent City 3 some of the series I haven’t end for a long time

☁️ I have some dark academia to get into. Reading The Secret History and that will extend into the new year. Then The Atlas Six because it will come off hold on Libby around Jan 5. I also plan to read Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury. Anything else will be mood reading.

Love that you’re filling the list with joy! I’m tempted to start the year off with Labyrinth’s Heart but also worried I won’t remember books 1 and 2 enough and will have to pause. So I might go with a long anticipated read off my physical TBR instead. Either way, checking off a goal!
