Yeah, this song was a classic in its own time. He also helps other young blues stars get started. In the mid-00s, I met a then 18 year old who was invited to a show we helped with (he had dated my boss's daughter) who had already played for KWS and BB King by then.

EXACTLY! I started enjoying music in the early 70's .So I was raised on great music. We had AM radio back then.So it was all played , either Soft or Hard Rock! We didn't have FM, until late 70's.But Country Music was Real Country back then. People didn't put music in a genre for many years to come. Most times we didn't even know the lyrics.Ive sang songs for over 20 years, the wrong words. But hey it sounded good to me.lol But yeah, he needs to listen more with out his eyes. The message is very clear. All these things he talks about in the song, mean nothing in the long run.Like Blue on Black. They redid this a few years ago for first responders, it has Five finger death punch, Brian May, Brantly Gilbert, it is alot heavier , but still really good.

If you liked this tune, you will love Kenny Wayne Shepherd's first big song "Deja Voodoo" from his debut album "Ledbetter Heights." It was the first of his tunes I'd ever heard, and it reminded me a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan's style. I immediately bought the album and I still love it. Most folks thought he sounded a lot like SRV as well - so much so that a couple of years after Stevie died, Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon toured with Kenny, performing live together. Fun Fact, Kenny Wayne Sheppard recorded the album Ledbetter Heights when he was 17...

Blues. Kenny's father's a well-known blues radio dj from Shreveport, LA. Look for the album, '10 Days Out'.. He tours across the South, finishing in a concert with old, established blues artists, playing along the way. Guests meeting up with him include BB King, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Pinetop Perkins and others that played with Muddy Waters. My favorite is one he did with Bryan Lee. The song was, 'Tina Marie'.. if you want to hear some ROCKIN', this is it.

There's a cool detail in the lyrics that I've never seen any reactor notice: the last phrase of the choruses before "blue on black" alternates between the incorrect form of the negative 3rd person ("don't bring you back") and the correct form of the negative 3rd person ("doesn't bring you back"). I don't know if it was a conscious decision or not but whatever the reason, it gives a certain "unpredictability" to the chorus. 🙂

If you listen to the lyrics, they're saying stuff like 'Blue on black' and 'tears on a river', 'Push on a shove', 'whisper on a scream'. Basically, when you put the color blue on black, it doesn't change. Apply the same logic to the other lyrics. You can't hear a whisper over a scream. Tears in a river are so small they're not noticeable. Took me some time to understand it as well.

This song almost gives us hope that rock is not dead in the modern era.

I just saw them last weekend in Santa Barbara with my two teenage daughters and Kenny and company were as good as ever. He is, in my opinion, the most fluid guitar player I have seen of his generation. They played this song live and it is was spectacular. I highly recommend you check him out live when you get the chance.

I am so happy for you both that you are allowing different kinds of music in your life. I know quite a few people who just listen to one kind of music. That''s kinda sad. There is so much music to digest and take in. Imagine only watching one genre of movies and that's it. Only scary movies and nothing else. What a boring life that would be..lol It's the same with music. There is something to enjoy in every genre, there really is. You just have to open your mind and heart to it. You two have done just that!!

I remember when I first heard this song. It was around '98 or '99. I'm an aircraft mechanic (structures) by trade. At the time I was working as a contractor in, of all places, Roswell, New Mexico (nah, not at Hangar 18, although it Does exist). On the floor, in the hangar or on the fight line ("tarmac") , at a/c repair stations music is in the air always; a tradition, a staple of the industry, I' don't know exactly the origin, mechanics playing music while doing their job, always everywhere, and worked when as a contractor), all throughout the U.S.. I remember, like it was yesterday while working in the cargo bay of an MD-11 doing a frame repair; and I tell you, this song "Blue on Black" by KWS came on the boom-box, someone's player, one within ear-shot distance, keeping me company, and this song stopped me in my tracks, 'bout blew my mind! It just does something to you when it comes on, for me at least, talks to your soul. Mesmerizing, for lack of a better word. Musta heard it over a hundred times, in the few months while on that contract. Song still grabs you, or at least me, to this day. A cut above the rest. Stevie Ray Vaughan was probably, from what I understand, Kenny Wayne Shepherd's biggest influence. Makes sense. Also #1 Rock Song for the year this song came out '98, I think. Thanks for choosing this masterpiece, and as always, great reaction. My man Brad warming up to it, is starting to get it. Oh, he'll be there. As for as his partner in crime, well Lex was born with it. My fav reactors, love you guys. Doing such a great service, for so many...👍❤️‍🩹

I remember when I heard his music for the first time. Couldn't believe how young he was. You guys need to check out Johnny Lang. The song "Lie to Me" is incredible because he was in his teens as well. They both had great songs around the same time frame if I remember correctly.

I 💯 agree, Jonny is amazing!!! I saw him when he was 16 and opened for Aerosmith. My favorite by him is darker side though.

I love this song. Kenny Wayne was a prodigy back in the day. Never quite got the commercial success a lot thought he'd become. This is random but Lex you're killing me. Mad Season - River of Deceit. PLEASE. It's Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) with Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and Screaming Trees on bass and drums. It's a beautiful song with lyrics just for Brad.

In an August 2017 interview, Shepherd discussed the song's origins: We wrote that when we were down in New Orleans - me, Mark and Tia. I had the music, and Mark and I were just rolling with the music and tried to develop things up. Tia came up with this idea based on a shirt that I was wearing that was blue and black. She noticed the two colors that were dominant on my shirt, and if you mix those two colors together, black consumes the blue. It doesn't amount to anything if you put the two together: You still have one color, instead of creating a new color. So she built on that idea, and it became this really deep song. It's really up to the listener to determine how they apply it. So many people have applied it to a death in the family, an abusive relationship, a broken relationship, or whatever. There are so many different ways. That's what's beautiful about music and lyrics is trying to write a song that the listener can apply to their own experience in whatever way seems fit. And that's one of those songs.[1]

You 2 remind me of me. In one hand. Very thoughtful and analytical. The other. I feel it down to my soul and letting move and grove me in any funky way it does. It's great to watch.

Always liked KWS. My favorite from him is probably “somehow somewhere someway”. But to be honest I like Jonny Lang’s style a bit better. Lang’s song “walking away” got me through a very dark time in my life! Seriously suggest checking that one out

Many musical instruments reach a place inside you causing you to smile und cry und remember...Saxophone, violin, cello, harmonica, piano, to name a few. Guitar has it's own way of telling a story within every note giving you something that you can take home und call your own. Rock guitar most often includes many genre of music within it's compositions. Such desire for Rock guitar sound und Rock music's exceptional compositions of story-telling expresses something beyond all borders that can never be equaled. This ist why Rock fans have always been so passionate about their music. Have a fun day. :-) Auf Wiedersehen aus Wiesbaden
