My husband and I just went to Kura for the first time on New Year’s Day and LOVED IT!! They just opened up in our town. We really enjoyed the selection, freshness and the ability to order speciality items. Also, it was CHEAP for sushi!! I’m so glad that it opened up near us and I’m going to be sending my paycheck directly to Kura because I love sushi.

'loner in the corner' yes, i feel this in my nether regions. nice setup at this place, not a sushi guy myself but i've seen similar rotating kind of places. back in the days this was pretty common. i even remember this kind of system setup in hospitals.

I was just here last night. This place is awesome and surprisingly a lot cheaper compared to a normal sushi restaurant I tried to go to the Irvine location but it's much smaller and it was packed so I went to this location in garden Grove last night before I went to Disneyland this place is so cool! The robot that gives you drinks is one of the coolest things I've ever seen and the sushi was pretty good I could only eat 4 plates though lol

The raw stuff, like the yellowtail and the sea urchin, would probably taste better if seasoned with a dip in soy sauce. Just a dip, though. It would bring out more of the flavors of the fish. Though I do appreciate that you are going out of your comfort zone. I don't recall if you have tried Japanese mayonnaise. There is a difference, as the Japanese mayo tends to be more in line with a salad dressing in consistency.

Was wondering if you saw any smoked eel sushi there. That stuff is killer. There's a couple of places here in Toronto that my wife gets family sized sushi platters, and the smoked eel is one of my favorites. No wasabi and soya sauce on anything?? WOW!!! Some sushi is even better with it, surprised that you didn't get any. That was a cool review though, now I'm craving it for dinner, LOL 😂😂. Going to call the wife and have her pickup a tray for dinner. Thanks Matt 👍👍👍

Umami oil beef and the salmon with mayo are my favs too! They have one in Little Tokyo as well and I go there waaaaayyy too often but it’s amazing. Glad you went and had a yummy time! Btw I’ve had the uni and it tastes like sour feet. No thanks.

Although it's likely made with the same ingredients, the second one was a roll, unlike the first one. The nori might've added a little more flavour to the roll one.

I think he is supposed to be putting the plates into that slot in front of him and it counts the plates and charges him as he finishes them.

If you're at a Kura, try out their deserts - the taiyaki or the Japanese donut with ice cream is GREAT. Not sure the donut's name: it's a crispy, honey donut paired with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. MAGICAL.

I can't believe I missed this show when it first aired. Great one, for sure! Mayo is not Miracle Whip. Sorry, not sorry. I make my own mayonnaise at home: Polish (sunflower oil, full egg, lemon juice, superhot Russian mustard [you tasted it in a Main Show - Закусон], salt) Japanese (soybean oil, egg yolks, vinegar, hot Japanese mustard, salt) Miracle Whip and similar things also include a bunch of sugars (MW has high-fructose corn syrup). I _love_ Miracle Whip and its clones, but only as sandwich spreads. They are claimed to be salad dressings... uh no, bro.

Given your issue with certain food textures, I'm actually surprised you liked so many of these. I knew you weren't going to like the conch if you weren't going to try the octopus. Sea urchin (uni) pretty much has two levels. Incredibly good which is what you get when you are paying a couple hundred dollars for made in front of you sushi at a high end place. It's hard to get and priced way too high for a place like this to use. I don't bother with it as a rule because the taste is pretty much what you experienced.
