Elvis brought me to your channel... I love this man's voice! The GOAT. No autotune or special monitors... Just pure raw talent! Very nice reaction. He is singing with his soul! Amazing performance. He is still loved worldwide and will never be forgotten. More Elv1s please. 💪🥇🇿🇦🌍 (I was 10 when this '68 Comeback Special aired). Lifelong fan of this beautiful man! Subbed!

Have you seen the Wings of Pegasus YT channel? If not, he's done several Elvis videos, proving that he could indeed play the guitar, as many have said he couldn't. He talks about autotune technology, broke down Elvis' voice, and how it's not even in the range for it to work even if it was available then. Really good stuff, I recommend it highly.

Elvis had such courage. In that time he risk his life speaking out for equality. Just need to watch the 1st part of “Elvis and the black community- the echo will never die” to see how we forget how overt and normal racism was. There was still segregation when Elvis started.

You have just witnessed a devastated Elvis singing out his soul to honor his assassinated friends, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Senator Bobby Kennedy who was also a fierce fighter for human rights and equality. Watch the video "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" and that will give you an good idea of how Elvis fought his heart out for the innocent downtrodden.. He grew up dirt poor and hung out with African Americans who loved him as much as he loved them. He was a force for good, and it hurts to see him called a racist. He was a courageous fighter all of this life. I love that man.

Being a baby boomer I was a teenager when this song came out and I will tell you honestly from my heart this was one of my favorite songs as a teenager and even when I listen to it now especially if I watch him doing it live I still get a tear in my eye listening to it because I know that he meant every word that he was singing because this was written in dedication to Martin Luther King Jr after he was killed.... Elvis had a great admiration for Martin Luther King Junior and it hurt him a lot when he died... So every word that he sings in this song it's coming from the very bottom of his soul😊

Everything in this performance has a purpose. The song itself was written by Earl Brown, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech I Have a Dream. The song was written with Elvis in mind & it’s a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Brown was aware of Elvis love for Dr. King. He also knew that Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr. King’s assassination (less than 9 miles from Graceland, Elvis‘s home). The white suit was also worn to accompany the song’s dream for better days. At the time, the conflict in Vietnam was heart wrenching. In remembrance, of the lives lost during the Vietnam war. The burgundy colored scarf Elvis wore around his neck was for them.

This man was born during the Depression, his Daddy went to jail when he was 2, I think, for writing a bad check to feed his family.. His Mama was dependent on the church to get them through and they lived in object poverty.. Elvis would go to black churches... he learned soul, he learned to love other races.. This song here is so sad to me.. it came out over 55 years ago.. I was in diapers.. It became my favorite song when I was 10.. didn't know the true meaning of it till I was in my 20's.. What makes me sad is that we haven't evolved enough still to stop the hate

Elvis sang this song in honor of both Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy who had both been assasinated in 1968. He admired and respected them both. The song itself is a kind of play on MLK's I have a dream speech.

(new sub) SOME BACKGROUND INFO: As per the producer-director of the '68 special -- Steve Binder -- Elvis, Binder & others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings. Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The song is notable for its similarities to Martin Luther King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. See the video "Gates of Graceland: Secrets of the '68 Special" for the entire story of the '68 special, + all the other Steve Binder video interviews regarding the culmination of the song & the entire making of the special. A little story that Steve Binder related which took place in the dressing room regarding the '68 special right before Elvis was due to go on: Elvis was extremely nervous and he told Binder that he didn't know any of the songs, he forgot all the words, & wasn't going out there, & Binder said, "I don't care if you walk out, just say hello & then walk off, but you ARE going out." And out he came.

I can see why you found this song inspirational or motivational, but this song is actually in response to the assassinations of RFK and MLK that same year. It isn't actually about achieving your dreams but is a rewording of MLK's speech, "I Have a Dream." Elvis was told to end his comeback special with a Christmas song, but he fought the network and his own people to do this song instead because he wanted to end with a message--a plea for peace and understanding and equality in a world torn by war and racial unrest. This was during the Civil Rights Movement when the belief was that a song like this would end his career. It wasn't a popular message to many at that time, but Elvis stood his ground and said what he felt needed to be said: Why can't MLK's dream of peace and equality come true?

Elvis Presley's "IF I CAN DREAM" From his 68 Comeback Special, Live This was Elvis's Heartfelt and Powerful Tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jr, after his Assasination in Memphis Tennessee where Elvis Lived. It is Based on the message of MLK's "I Have A Dream" Speech, and was written for him with this in mind. It also honored the Memory of Robert F Kennedy, who was also Assasinated during the same time period. This was a Turbulent Time in America, 🇺🇸 with the Civil Rights Movement, Protests and Riots against Vietnam War and it seemed as if the Country was being torn apart and Elvis wanted to bring a Message of Hope and Unity to the Nation. "If I Can Dream" is at it's heart, a Civil Rights Song. Love Bossa Nova Baby. “If I can dream” was written in tribute to MLK not Kennedy. It was written after MLK was killed 4/4/68 But before Kennedy was killed in June. Kennedy wasn’t dead yet when it was written. But the racial tension was so high that “they” were softening the MLK song by adding tribute to Vietnam War Vets, Robert and sometime John Kennedy. It was racial motivated to add people beside just MLK because so many (lots-most during that time) white people were against MLk. That is why they wouldn’t allow him to sing it. That is why nobody had heard this song on the radio, etc. because it was written in tribute to MLK.

Elvis's manager Colonel Parker in real life as well as in the movie played by Tom Hanks screwed Elvis over royally... Elvis wanted to travel the world and he was invited to do so the colonel Parker wouldn't do it he kept him at the hotel in Las Vegas... He made a side deal and you see it in the movie with the owner at the hotel he is to keep Elvis on that stage every night for all his shows no matter what life or death and in return all of his gambling debts would be wiped clean and I think his house limit what's set like a million dollars... He wiped Elvis out financially....😢❤

Not as much of a motivational song as it is a racial reconciliation song as others have noted. It was about the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. who was murdered 15 minutes from Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home. This is why you hear the pain in his voice and the heart felt passion in this performance!❤

I would advise not to watch the Elvis movie until you've done a lot of his songs and music because only then will you get the full effect of how good of an impersonator Austin Butler is of Elvis.... All these other Elvis impersonators that have been out here for 20 and 30 years trying to do Elvis not one of them can do it... And look up the history of Austin Butler preparing to play the part of Elvis in the movie he's got quite a story too... He's very gracious about the opportunity to play in the movie....
