This song was used in the movie "American Beauty" with Kevin Spacey, but it was a cover by Annie Lenox, not by Neil Young. Although I am biased because I prefer the original, Annie did a great job on the cover. I'm not sure if it's in any other movie though.

You could react to a Neil Young song every week for a few years. Alone. With Buffalo Springfield, with Crosby, Stills and Nash, with Crazy Horse, with the International Harvesters, with The Shocking Pink. Acoustic guitar and harmonica, on a baby grand piano, with a hard rocking band or a country band. He's legend..

A cool, under appreciated, acoustic song of his with amazing lyrics is Campaigner. It's about Richard Nixon who Neil disliked a lot. In that song, though, he expresses his sympathy for Nixon. He had seen him on the news, weeping at the hospital after Pat Nixon had a stroke. Neil wrote the song that night...might have even recorded it that night. That's how he worked. Check that one out whether you're doing a reaction or not. It's beautiful.

The song was released in 1970 guys... I think you're right BJ in guessing about the song maybe reflecting some of the hard things going on at the time, such as the Vietnam war, and young people being drafted and sent over to possibly be killed, and young people protesting that war, and sometimes arrested for trying to avoid the draft or for protesting against the war. And Neil maybe saying "try not to let it get you down, whatever it is you're facing in life". I think every time period has it's challenges, there's plenty of challenges right now too!

London, 1971. Neil Young is one of the great musicians of the era. His music also reflects the times, especially, the War in Vietnam. His activism, however, is a whole different story. A Canadian socialist/Marxist his philosophy on life is just like all the other socialists/Marxists. As long as it doesn't effect THEIR million$ they are all about everybody else giving away everything they have worked for.

This is pretty early Neil Young, 1970. He was around in the late 60s too. Think this was from After the Gold Rush album. Great album! There's lots of great Neil Young music going back to his Crazy Horse band in the 60s to Buffalo Springfield to when he hooked up with Crosby, Stills & Nash. And he just keeps on going. He's a great songwriter and musician. Really a poet in my book! ✌❤

My apologies. I thought the YT header said 1 hour ago and now see it was one year. Still, I wrote this so I will leave it. Asia and BJ, I believe this song was based on things he saw on cold mornings delivering newspapers as a kid on northern Ontario. All kinds of bad news, just a pep talk to himself to get home safely, ignore the negative, and find like minded people to hang with, That was from BBC television (London) in 1971. The entire show was only about 30 min long. Have you ever seen one person together with only his/her instruments who can captivate a large crowd - a generation even-like Neil Young? Stay tuned in to Neil Young, please. He is probably more famous for his electric guitar work and definite ROCK voice with his band Cra y Horse. You could stay on this path a very long time before you or your subscribers grew tired of Neil. IMO, whenever possible choose live performances. Cinnamon Girl, Like A Hurricane, Keep on Rockin’ In The Free World, Cortez The Killer, and Southern Man (excoriating the Antebellum south) - so many. I have missed more than I listed. I am among the thousands who will be so glad you did this one. Thank you!

This was probably recorded in the 1970s. Although I don't blame you for thinking it's the '80s as Neil Young was way ahead of his time. He stayed relevant from the 1960s till now and it's pretty incredible. Throughout his career rockstars have died and new ones have emerged, but Neil Young has stayed relevant throughout the times. He's actually had a very hard life and it's worth looking into.

It was on his 1970 album "After the Gold Rush." Neil sings in his head voice and falsetto. But he is singing out of tune like Bob Dylan. There was the USA For Africa in which Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie wrote "We Are the World." That was the title track to the 1985 album. It was a charity album for the famine in Ethiopia in the early to mid-1980s. Northern Lights was the Canadian version of USA for Africa. They had their own song "Tears are No Enough" on the album. David Foster, one of the writers of the song, said Neil Young was flat. Someone said that's the way he sings. He sings flat/out of tune. Neil Young is highly regarded as one of the prolific songwriters of all-time. Many artists and musicians such as Kurt Cobain, Sonic Youth, and Noel Gallagher have talked about their love and respect for Neil. He's been called the "Godfather of Grunge." A lyrical poet. He's penned and written many a great song.

Please stop judging true artists! I really think you don't have the right. Like I mean, can you even tune a guitar? No disrespect but do you do that to like movie stars, doctors, your favorite mechanic etc... critique them and interrupt them while they're doing their thing? lol Of course not! What is your criteria for how an artist sings or how good of a singer he or she is? I myself never question or rate the singers voice, and I'm a musician. Especially if they write and also sing and play multiple instruments at the same time. Like voice/guitar, harmonica/guitar, piano or keyboard/voice etc. Were you aware that before The Beatles broke it wide open one man songwriter/musician/singers were frowned upon. You had your stable of singers and your stable of writers. It was all controlled by the recording companies and the publishing/record label types. Anyway, getting back to some artists, they are more than just singers they are complete artists! They can do it all!!! Respect is the key word here. Sure there are singers that only sing and they're good singers like Celine Dionne and Whitney Houston. But, if there were only those types of singers in the world it would get pretty monotonous very quickly! Besides they can't write songs and they don't play any instruments either. So what I'm getting at is let's just let the artists do their thing and enjoy the musical talent and originality on display. Besides you don't tell your doctor how to diagnose illnesses, do you? Don't get me wrong, I love your channel and you two are great! Honestly!
