Living in the Class B veil gives plenty of experience communicating with ATC and making it a pleasure to talk with them. Here in New Orleans they are very accommodating. I used to fly to Tampa regularly years ago. Great video, thanks for all the hard work.
It's always exciting. I've flown through the San Francisco Class B many times, both in my Enstrom and in Cessnas. They often have me fly directly over the airport. It's very cool to look down at the airliners below you.
I’ve flown into Bravo airports many times through the years in our Bonanza. DFW is our most frequent because we live in Texas. Fly there rather than drive most occasions when dropping off or picking up passengers. There is only one GA FBO on field (Corporate Aviation) and they roll out the red carpet for a single engine airplane...along with chauffeured service to and from the terminals. The $75 landing fee isn’t bad when you consider the time savings as well as the fees you pay at the toll booths when driving. Really busy Bravos can be intimidating if you aren’t very comfortable with radio communications. I always tell folks to anticipate what they want you to do because (as you indicated in your video) it’s generally pretty easy to predict what they will tell you next. Also, become familiar with the layouts of the taxiways because they can be the most difficult to navigate if you don’t know the airport layout and the taxiway procedures. Every time I fly into DFW is a fun experience. The controllers are always so nice and generally say something like “hope to see you again soon” because we’re the ONLY single engine airplane on the field. It’s pretty surreal when you see that as you taxi around.
Appreciate you showing all of the flight; especially all of the communications and loading the route into the GPS flight plan. Helps me as a learning IFR student to see the route planning and communications in full.
I love your channel. My first experience in a general aviation plane was a Barron 55 a cousin of mine owned. Seeing your channel and channel like yours motivated me to start my own RU-vid channel. To this day I still love watching your stuff. I said during my flight training I like flying into controlled airports because they tell you what to do. It’s easy. I’m in the military, I’m really good at doing what I’m told 😂. Love the video!
Nice video...They jammed you in pretty quick...Being a seasoned pilot made adjustments quickly...Kim did look a litte antsy lol..she handled plugging in info great...Take care you two ..
I didn’t know what to anticipate. I was excited to see the big boys flying around us but we landed right after a bunch of traffic. Looks like we will have to find another class bravo to fly into 😉😁
And to think I remember when a commercial plane couldn't get into our ( Punta Gorda) airport. Those were the days. Almost.had to look out just for yourself. Great job on the videos guys !!
Work everyday as an LEO helo pilot in the Bravo in Orlando and the controllers are awesome when it comes to giving us such flexibility to do our job. They bend over backwards to let us move in and around the arrival and departure corridors so we can catch the bad guys! Without them our job would be so less effective that we might as well not even lift! Best advice get the training if you haven’t and don’t be afraid to use the services that they offer you in the Bravo!!
Always enjoying your videos and now with winter coming here in Boise I will have a hot tea and watch your videos. BTW I had a couple of trips in a Baron years ago to Laughlin Nevada and to the Reno Air Races were i saw the great Bob Hoover.
I can never say that Your videos were Bad I enjoy every one of your videos . Last week I went flying with a friend and her sister so It's Becoming very well to me I over come my fear of flying
Loved this video...I had no idea how much you can pre program a flight...Very cool..! Your Co-Pilot Kim is So Pretty..! Must be awesome sharing the sky with her...
Very familiar with Tampa, I live and fly out of St Petersburg Fl out of Albert Whittle. PIE is not in St. Peter it is in a non incorporated area it is properly called St Pete-Clearwater international Airport! I got my License at amControl Tower airport and in class Bravo area.
Gidday you two. Kim, have your made bookings for your first training flights yet?!!!! You guys are now at 76.3k. Love your nails and your dress style too. You're pushing those Avidyne GPS buttons like a seasoned pro. Oh, you need a can/cup holder Kim! :) My local airport is NZCH, where I learnt to fly way back in 1989-90, in trusty Piper "Traumahawks" in amongst BAE146s, B732s, B762s and the odd B744, with the summer season USAF transports and Air National Guard C130s flying to/from Antarctica, so got used to taxying and flying around with the heavies quite quickly! Our little grass runway of 1700ft is parallel to the single monster 10kft sealed runway, so I don't think you'd find that scenario in the USA at any Class B airports these days! Quite often, post PPL, if I was out flying one of the larger PA28s or a C172, and on final for the main runway, I'd have to keep my "speed up" to over 100kts quite often, land long, and turn off quickly before being mowed down by a landing B732! The tower controllers knew how to space us all as GA planes have operated since forever at Christchurch, so it was never an issue. Looking forward to the next video from you, as usual, David
I have, Hobby Airport (HOU) and Bush Intercontinental (IAH). Uneventful! A fun flight is to use the VFR corridor going to Galveston. You will fly in between 2 class Bravo airports and as a bonus, see up close Houston downtown. Just beautiful.
I lived a charmed PP ASEL life, I guess. My flight school was on PHNL, so all of my early flying was in and out of Class B airspace, flying and taxiing in close proximity to heavies. Never gave it a second thought once I got my first clearance request under my belt, but I’ll confess my knees were shaking and I botched the readback. Major airports around the outer islands were in Class C airspace, so I got familiar with those procedures as well. When I moved to FL (near KTPA), I felt naked at first flying out of the surrounding airports there. The procedures and ATC interaction at Class B and C airports simplify your life considerably, since you’re always getting instructions or following set arrival and departure procedures. Fewer decisions to make, so less chance of mistakes.
Thanks for the link I'd like to follow Kim if that's okay...oh by the way, shame that gust of wind could not have blown in a few seconds earlier just as she was ascending the aircraft.....just saying what a lot of men are thinking......EDIT: Nice camera work whoever is doing that!
Hello you two, love the video. I noticed something new on this video, your lady Kim is wearing a turquoise ring on her left finger which looks great to me. Anyway both of you have a great weekend, keep your video's coming. Skip & Missy Russell; KMOD area.
Kim IS the prettiest SIC in the air, period! Your approach to Rwy 10 took you right over my old house in Dana Shores :D Ah, FLA in the summer time... Thermal/convection CITY!! Beautiful flight and you handled that Class Bravo airspace like the Pro you are... Great job as always.... BTW, did I mention that Kim IS the prettiest SIC there is? Oh question what IS the story with the Eagle on the dashboard? I've never heard it mentioned. Did I miss that video? When is Kim going to wash 75W again? :D
Another great video! I have missed you guy's. Keep em coming! Don't forget that Memphis BBQ is on me the next time you're here!! I would recommend the Olive Branch MS air port. Great FBO and cheaper than Memphis International.
Thanks for the video. Aren't those traffic alerts during landing distracting? That would drive me nuts. If you get used to ignoring them, you might miss an important one.
I landed at Lincoln, NE in a 182 last summer at night. It isn't Class B (I have gone into Class B before) but it has a 14,700' runway 35 on which I was cleared to land. The FBO was at the North end of the field and the tower cleared me to land long to avoid a LONG taxi. I landed on the last 4,000' of the runway. It was strange letting that much pavement pass under me before touchdown.
Glad you had a good flight, l enjoyed watching it also the girl was nice as well, no doubt she enjoyed the flight as well. PS keep the plane in good order, so that l can watch it in the future .
Not a pilot but would love to be. I was here for the thumbnail but now I don’t know what was hotter, Kim or the plane. Just kidding Kim you’re way hotter. Awesome video thanks for the ride.
Welcome to the Class Bravo Club, Kristoffer and Kim! Many people complain about the large FBOs, and there are reasons for that. Having said that, Signature at Tampa is one of my all-time favorite places from all my travels, in terms of support, helpfulness, nice facilities, and - yes - affordability. - Martin
Back in March I flew a Piper Cherokee into Dulles (KIAD). It's still possible, just have to rime your arrival to not interfere with the arrival or departure blocks. Yes, I made a video. I should remaster it since I have better video editing now.
What happened to Louise? Is she home cooking dinner? Hi Baron, it's been awhile since I watched video. As always, thanks much for sharing these beautiful flying video.
G, day Baron Pilot, the twin Beechcraft landed gracefully at Tampa International (class B airspace). 1. Instruction from tower AGL change 3000ft on decent and approach. Why the alteration? 2. D-ATIS is that digital air traffic information service? Mentioned in the ATIS is bird activity, I'm not convinced. "Keep the blue side up and brown down". 🌏🇭🇲
This is helpful. Am on the verge of getting my PPL (in a long queue for the checkride, bad weather and scheduling challenges have backed things up) and am looking forward to a trips to visits friends and relatives. Am planning to simply avoid Class B, e.g. slightly adjust course down the coast of FL (from N GA area) to avoid Orlando (planning at 9500', not quite high enough and don't want to go to 11,500' in a Diamond DA20 or even DA40 without O2 or something). And heading north to KLUK to visit fam that lives quite nearby, I think it'd make more sense to nav to I69, descending outside Class B, and then go west to KLUK for the last 10nm of descent, staying below the Class B shelf. But someday it would be cool to enter, if not land at a primary in, a Bravo. Haven't reviewed any of this with a CFI yet, as my wife and I have a lot of practicing at shorter XC's to work up to these trips (she's taken 3 lessons in a Sim so far), but it's fun to plan and dream!
Can I ask what brand those AOA indicators on your glare shield are? They look like a perfect display, and more intuitive than the Garmin units. I like the Safe Flight, but yours look even better because they’re clear and use reflection like a HUD.
Awesome video!! I just found your channel and wow! What a great video. Would love to help you out with drone footage if you are interested in any collab. I am local and am a Part 107 drone pilot. I loved this video and can't wait to watch the rest. So cool!!!
Great video Kristopher, by the way... tell your sweetie she's looking sharp! Were you nervous landing in Class Bravo for the first time with her? Cheers!
Fly TPA and now LAL all the time, and they always give you the visual, so they can slam you in. On the Boeing, it’s hard to slow down and come down at the same time.
Kris - I just noticed on an older video you had on-board WX radar... But with your new digital avionics and cleaned up dash you no longer have that old scope. WSR-88D NWS radar to on-board is NOT real-time, and that has caused some pilots to get into trouble. Do you miss having on-board WX radar? Do you think you might get it back on-board someday?
Rut roh, Greg's in for it now! Just kidding. You and Greg have awesome channels. I hope you guys collaborate on a video of the tour. Congrats on the article 👏 🙌 👍
Exactly, they will just end up billing you if for some reason you leave without paying. But you have to walk through the building and go through a locked door so that can stop you also. Small places might not have a locked door.
Should one call ahead before trying to land in Class Bravo? There are videos of people landing at ORD, and they stated they called ahead. I think they were VFR though.
No need to call ahead. If you are VFR you have to get permission to enter the Class B airspace. So technically you radio ahead before entering the Bravo.
Why is it in your forward cockpit view we can't see through the windshield? I keep thinking if you had a front hood that it flipped up and is blocking your view.
