Your older vids always pop up in my feed i have watched your channel for several years i was never a confident commentator till this last few lol, your just a good family channel ❤
you do know if it has a small hatch rate if the quail still grows you can save it i had the same problem but i used i tooth pick to get the other chicks out of the egg that couldn't break thru the egg out of the shell only put it a little in then use tweezers to peel away the shell membrane then you can use your hands to make the hole bigger to let the chick out
That is really cool that the incubator works. And to think, new incubators made mostly out of styrofoam sell for $200, you got a real bargain inventing that one. Congrats on the quail babies, hope that last one hatches too! Bummer more of the eggs weren't viable.
Yea, we are excited to try another batch of eggs sometime soon. That fourth chick that was hatching at the end was taking a very long time to crack out, much longer than the rest. It seemed like it was giving up so I decided to pull the egg open myself and it popped right out. It's doing good now and I think helping it was the right thing to do. We are putting that one last egg from 'The Concrete KID Mireya' on lock down today. You may find this interesting... we checked all of the dead eggs. Two of the eggs had partially formed chicks that died very early on, one egg contained a fully developed chick that seemed to have died very recently. The rest were empty. All of the eggs that had cracked in the mail were very dry inside. The cracks just create too much moisture loss.
Hi guy's just found your Channel and it's great.... I just recently got in to raising quail, my first hatch was the end March and got 43 chicks out of 56 eggs..... I'm hooked on my quail and love having them. My wife and daughters laugh at me because i'll sit out in the yard with my trusty cockier spaniel Bird dog Bo Bo lol for hours while they run around out side their coupe. I've already had quail eggs for breakfast and just pickled 130 eggs last week..... Yummy.... I also just finished my 2nd hatching today and i have 32 chicks out of 40 eggs ! Anyway my girls give me lots of eggs so if you would like to hatch more i would love to send you guy's some. Just let me know and we can make the arrangements. Keep up the good work on your channel..... Earl
Tractor supply has turkey starter crumble that is 30 percent. I am trying to hatch my first group right now. I bought 3 day old chicks and they are mating and laying. I hope I have good luck.
They are so cute. I love baby quail. Can't wait to watch them grow. Your incubator worked great. Thanks for mentioning me in your video, I appreciate it so much. I hope I can get my duckling hatching video up here soon. We are going to butcher the Cornish X Friday. See ya ~ Danielle :)
Now I just hope the one Mireya sent us hatches since we had the humidity high for the big batch for those 4 days...I'll be watching for your duckling video!
That's a lot of loss... Is that normal? I'm going to start raising quale soon. I have a giant cage an incubater on the way and I've started raising meal worms. So I'm getting ready. How exciting!!!! Very nice.. so you have a chicken heat lamp??? Is that right.. I'm excited for you...
No it's not normal, but those eggs were packed and shipped terribly with many of the eggs arriving cracked. Yea, you can use a heat lamp, or the kind that they go under like what we used in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MxNYVuuxGJw.html
don't forget to dip their beaks in the water so they know where it is at.you probley all ready know that but just saying just in case.In a quail waterer i put marbles or pebbles in so there is very little risk of them drowning. you be surprised that they can drown themselves in such a small amount of water. when i have chicks i do grind the food down just a little finer then how they come in the bag. i use a mortar and pestle when i have a small batch of chicks. not to a powder but just a bit finer.blender and food processor works too.those small bags of game bird feed gets very expensive over time. you have to hunt around to find a type of high protein feed for them in your area. if the chicks lay flat on their belly with their legs spread out behind them don't freak out and think they are dead. they are not. they just do that they are a weird bird.
Lol, thank you for the tips. They have been drinking and eating so we are supper happy about that. That's a good idea about grinding the food up a bit. Lol, I got a little freaked out the other night because I walked in and two of them were lying on their backs, belly up. I have never seen a bird do that before. They jumped up when they saw me and they were okay, I guess they were just warming up their bellies under the lamp. They are a weird bird.
In regards to your refrigeration problem. You might want to check out a restaurant supply or a warehouse store for single serving condiments. Especially mayonnaise. We used to ask for extra at the fast food restaurants and save them for the hunting camp. They generally don't need refrigeration as long as you open and use them in one sitting. Also, if there is a RV/camper salvage or junk yard near you. Many of the refrigerator/freezers use dual or tri power, propane 110V and 12v. Great job on your hatch! Martin
We are trying to pinch pennies right now but that is a good idea. I have been researching alternative refrigeration ideas. We are making do for now. This challenge is really making us think and rethink.
The number of Eggs to hatch ratio was really poor. One of the reasons was that there was't enough humidity inside. You could have kept some water in a bowl inside the incubator.
@@christmatthews8461 I got 10 jambo coturnix quails and 2 button quails. Unfortunately 2 died few days after hatching. And two already were piping and died inside after trying for too long. :(
I have also many eggs that have a very dark portion and a very light portion. Its like seperated idk. It always rolls in one direction I have no Idea if they are alive or not.
What type of incubator are you using? I'm using a little giant (which a lot of people say suck) and in 2 days my eggs are supposed to hatch. Interested in what one yours is
I hope you have a great hatch rate! Ours is a homemade incubator that we made from a wine refrigerator. We did a video about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-meGtf60fIn0.html
Hello! I've recently started incubating button quail eggs, they've been incubating since 29/1/2023. I've done my research to start candling on the 10th day, should I continue candling them until they hatch or should I just leave them?
Thanks! They do have the prettiest shells that would make an awesome...something! Yea, that last clip was so cool and he poked out at the most perfect time. :)
Did you crack open the one damaged egg that had something in it? If your incubator does not have a fan I believe the temperature should be 101 maybe 102. Maintaining the moisture around 50% is easier to do than a dry hatch so next time a sponge in a dish of water may help the ones which developed but didn't hatch, hatch but as you started in other comments the damage from shipping was probably the largest limiting factor in the hatch rate. Also I feel you should have cleaned off the yoke because of the bacterial growth is probably worse than removing the natural coating. I do not know if you opened the incubator every day as you did not need to turn them by hand, but cooling the eggs for a few minutes every day before lock down is important. Cool incubator btw. If possible install a fan for a computer or sit a small personal fan inside to circulate the air.
@@scott9277 haha yeah absolutely. But If you think about it, under The hen the air doesn't circulate either. I now do hatch in an incubator that does have a fan though.
99.5° in a circulated air incubator or 101° in a still air incubator. Different quail breeds have various incubation times, so that is something to keep in mind as well: incubatorwarehouse.com/how-long-to-hatch-an-egg
9 out of 24? I got 2 out of 16... :( Edit: I then looked at the eggs and found out that four were fertilized and one died when hatching. So now i have 3 quails at home, 1 male 2 female.
I would wait until you're sure there are no more that will hatch. It's not good to keep opening the incubator. They can be left inside the incubator for a while after they hatch and be just fine.
around 12-24 hours... for me personally i move them to the brooder after 15 hours. as long as their feathers got dried they’re safe to be moved to the brooder
hey guys don't feel bad,i started with 32 quail eggs and wound up with only 4. my first time also.trying to find the video on you building your incubator.i liked and subed
Thank you so much liking and subbing :) Did you ever find the incubator video? It's here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-meGtf60fIn0.html
I got my first clutch of 12 eggs from a farmer and out of that 2 were infertile and the other 10 have developed. Now it is 1 day into lockdown so day 15 and all ten are pitch black dark but I could see there claws wriggling so I hope they hatch since all have developed. Any tips guys? Thanks!!!
Here's a tip: Don't open the incubator at all from now on, until after they are done hatching. Opening it lets out necessary humidity and can kill the remaining unhatched eggs. Chicks can stay in the incubator until they are fluffed up even 2 days after they hatch. I hope you get a great hatch rate :)
You put your lightbulbs back in already? I'm confused I thought you were off grid for the month minus the incubator. Are the other quail picking on the one with the spot on his back or was it born that way?
The one with the spot was still a bit wet from it hatching, he's all dry and good now. We still don't have any light bulbs put back in - the first clip with our lights on was from May 31 when we put the eggs on lockdown. The heat lamp is the only thing plugged in besides the incubator - basically the quail are exempt from the off-grid challenge, we just don't want to risk losing them.
MiniSteading ahh ok that explains it, I thought maybe the other two didn't like him or something 😀 Gotcha on the lightbulb, when you asked Belle to turn off the lights I thought that meant you had put the bulb back in 😀
It is homemade. We made it from a wine refrigerator that we found on Craigslist. Here is a video we made about it a while ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-meGtf60fIn0.html
It's in the incubator right now and expected to hatch on June 11th. We don't know how it will do because there was a lot of action and high humidity in the incubator while the others were hatching but we are hoping it pulls through. We are excited to see how it does and will definitely post an update.

Adrian Mallory hmm that’s a good question. I guess in that case candling the eggs isn’t possible. I’m not sure what else you could use that could light up through the shell. I’m sorry
The flashlight on a cell phone works great if narrow the light to just the egg with foam ring or something similar, I use the foam containers quail eggs are shipped in
4 hatched. Yea, it was pretty lousy. We had the eggs shipped to us and they were packed horribly with a lot of them coming cracked to begin with. I'm surprised we had 4 hatch honestly.
taking them out too much and candling can lower your hatch rate on lockdown day you should wait untill you hear the first chick then wait 3 days untill all of them hatch out try not to open the incubator too much
Aren't you supposed to leave them in there for like 24 hours while they're hatching? I thought they could get shrink wrapped if exposed to cold air & then won't be able to hatch...
I've read yes up to 24 hours if there are none that are pipping you can open it. But if there any that have started to hatch they can get shrink wraped. But that's only from what I've read
