10CC are an english band. The guy with the moustache is Rick Fenn, my cousin. They were/are a classic band, they have lots of different songs and well they still tour. Saw them here in New Zealand in June. Went backstage after the concert spent a few hours chatting with them, nicest guys ever

What they took away from that trip was the chorus. The singer sat in His hotel bar in Kingston and was chit chatting with the bartender. Asks the guy if he likes cricket, and he replies: "I don't like cricket. I LOVE it!" My take on the rest is that it's about someone on a holiday a long way from home having some weird experiences. That it takes place in Jamaica is probably only due to them wanting to do a reggea song and to put the dude in Jamaica makes sense.

@@beorlingo, the 10 cc songwriter was on a vacation in Barbados with Justin Hayward, lead singer of the Moody Blues. They signed up for jet ski lessons. The 10 cc singer went first. Justin and the instructor remained in the boat. The instructor told Justin he wanted Justin’s necklace.

You're the first RU-vidr to react to this song that I've seen. Other RU-vidrs have done other 10cc songs. But not this one. I find that strange since this one was one of their biggest hits. Thanks for your take on it!

10cc where basically the gorillaz of the 70s and 80s. they where an experimental band that didnt stick to one genre of music. if you like 10cc you will love gorillaz. try jimmy jimmy from goriallaz. and British SKA came from reggae

Kansas City peeping this! This was just one song that I know of these guys did. They are just having fun and a goodtime with the reggae sound and the song. They were pop artist from England in the 70's, and loved Bob Marley! Check out another song by UB40 who are actually a British Jamaican Band called Falling In Love With You! Love it when you react to something you never heard and give your honest reaction and break it down on vocals and musicianship!✌ out Bruh!

I heard that when I was 5 years old in 1978. Good reggae melodic rhythm, nice bass and percussions, nice vocal harmonizing. It is groovy. The sound meant of some of the bad lifestyles in Jamaica back in the 70s. I am from Trinidad and Tobago, 🇹🇹 an island in the caribbean.

This is a Jamaican thing, I have heard a couple of stories where people get mugged, but it is done as a transaction. I think so they can later say "I didn't rob him, I sold him something." Something about local laws. Etc. I had a friend get sold a cheap knife for all the contents of his wallet there lol.....it was made clear that he was going to GET the knife one way or another, and it would be better to buy it.

Nice to hear a musical reaction to this. Have you never been robbed like that before?? It happened to me in Buffalo. It started out, "I'll give you a dollar for your jacket." If you take the dollar, even though you know that they'll take it off you with violence, then they've got a defence.

That was a different world. There were no cell phones, no internet. All you had was a landline phone and a TV set, newspapers magazines and books. The internet has changed the world. It is a library that rivals the library that was at Alexandria. Bob Marley went to England in the early '70s and made three albums with the original members before the second one quit after the 3rd. So, These cats were jamming to some of the best that The Whalers and Bob ever did. From The Wailers influence, we have this. I hear the influence of Seeco in the percussion. The simply can't sit still listening to this.

This is just one song with a reggae beat, every song they sang was different. Check out Good Morning Judge, Wall Street Shuffle, Art for Arts Sake, I'm Not Love. If you want British Reggae and Ska music then check out the Two Tone bands: The Selector, The English Beat, The Specials, Madness

I was jesting with you my friend as I have no connection with that Isle (long story) but attended Grammar School opposite The Kennington Oval and watched THe Surrey CC Teatime sessions for 1 PENNY from 1965-71..:). It was the era of that great West Indies team featuring Charlie, Wes, Lance, Clive Lloyd, Rohan Kanhai, Seymour Nurse, Basil Butcher et al. I was born and bred just 2 miles from The Oval. Good Luck.

My M8's Family moved from Kennington in 1967 as the "newcomers" were making it a rough area so they moved further down The London Road to the safety of THe Thornton Heath Suburbs. By The 1980s as many people moved out and The Yardies moved into Thornton Heath then that area became rough so they moved again to the tranquillity of the last Outer London Suburb along THe London Road which was Croydon and now 25+ years later THAT area is completely unrecognizable and now has the worst murder rate in London and 2 people I know, independently, called it a " War Zone" and the original people have NOW moved to East and West Sussex... ALL IN MY LIFETIME....

Hard to explain but I feel songs like this one United different cultural groups in the UK, I believe people just need some common ground to get along, the influx of west Indian people into British society heavily influenced the way we are today and definitely the music, and this is a homage.to that so what I guess I'm saying is I like this song.
