@@Sweet.Creature Indeed but I believe that he made it big when he scored platinum with his first album, became the first openly gay artist to have a #1 album in the US with his second album, and went on to sell millions and sell out solo tours worldwide.
a suggestion: when you're going to do a 'first listen' to someone's cover of another artist's song, listen to the original first. if you had listened to Cher's original 'Believe' you would have been even more blown away with Adam's rendition. Adam is the MASTER of the 'cover song'. he is, quite simply, ASTOUNDING! enjoyed your vid...thank you! hope you have a chance to do more Adam Lambert 'first listen' reviews...hopefully, more of his original songs...he never fails to deliver! ❤
Cher put this song out around 1998 as an upbeat 'techno pop' single that I think made #1. Adam's version was definitely slowed down. But incredibly as good, if not better, than Cher's original version. His vocals are incredible.
Cher's original version was an upbeat, disco/techno number. Though it had been written as a ballad and intended for her to sing it as such, the producers saw it as an opportunity to make use of new technology at the time and it became the first hit to use the vocoder. This later became known as "autotune" leading to the incorrect belief that Cher needed it to correct her singing in the studio. She didn't and has performed the song many times live without the "special effects". It made #1 in 21 countries, including the US (where it was the biggest selling song of 1999) and UK (where it was the biggest selling song of 1998), over 33 years since her last #1 before it - the longest gap in either chart's history. It entered the Billboard 100 at 99 in December 1998 and made #1 in March 1999 but went straight in at #1 in the UK charts in October 1998 and stayed there for seven weeks. At 52, Cher became the eldest female singer to achieve a #1 in the US and UK and remains the eldest to do so with a first-time release in both charts - only beaten by Mariah Carey in the US who was 53 when the annually re-released 'All I Want for Christmas' made #1 in 2022, and Kate Bush in the UK who was 63 when 'Running Up That Hill' (originally released in 1985) made #1 in 2022 after being featured in 'Stranger Things'.
Nonsense!!! Adam Lambert did it this way on American Idol in 2009 (video is on youtube: Adam Lambert - Believe - Hollywood Round 3 - 10/02/09), Ella Henderson on X-Factor in 2012. I believe you understand that 2009 was before 2012!🤨
Adam and Michael Orland, Musical Director of American Idol and this Kennedy Honors arranged it for him on AI 2009 and revitalized it here as well.@@janulake
For context, this performance was for the Kennedy Center Honors - a national recognition of lifetime achievement in the arts. So, Adam was selected to perform one of Cher's songs as a representation of her artistry, the year she was chosen as an honoree (2018).
Please react to Adam Lambert as Queen’s frontman, specifically Who Wants to Live Forever at Isle of Wight - it was the night after the Pulse shooting and he dedicated it to the victims - stunningly breathtaking. No one will ever be Freddie Mercury but Adam Lambert is a genius singer in his own right. Love the videos sir!
You probably know over 25 Cher hits, without knowing that they’re Cher!! She has been in the limelight since the early 70s when she and Sonny had their own TV show watched by 30 million people each week! Cher is timeless. She is an icon in pop culture. She’s incredibly smart and creative and she’s also an actress. Her version of this song is very bouncy and pop and upbeat. Adam Lambert took this and made it his own and almost turned it into a ballad so to speak. I loved how you were smiling as you were watching him sing. Just out of pure enjoyment of his angelic voice. I do believe that Adam Lambert is one of the finest, if not THE finest, male vocalist on the planet today. He is absolutely unbelievable. Loved your reaction when he belts out that last note and you stopped and said “what happened.?!” The answer is Adam happened!! He started out in children’s theater. And just a fun fact about Adam… He’s actually a natural blonde! (Seriously!) Keep doing what you’re doing, we really enjoy your reactions!
@daydreaminmylif well, your semi-correct! He’s not an actual redhead-redhead. He’s officially “strawberry blonde!” Oh my goodness, he looks absolutely gorgeous with the dark dark hair. He is one beautiful guy inside and out.
After this Cher gave Adam the rights to record his own ballad version seen here. She was so moved! Tears. She was the long black haired woman shown the last 3 times and giving a standing ovation! I believe this was written by Cher with all of this emotion originally but it was put into a techno dance track and flew up the Charts. I think she was so moved hearing her own words in its original form!
Chercsang thiscas an upbeat disco song (like Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"). Adam turned it into an incredible torch song/power ballad. One of the best covers I've ever heard. But, then, I think he's the best male vocalist in the business today.
Cher's version of this song is an upbeat dance club version. Adam made this song his own. That's what he was good at on American Idol. That's why he was so good and should have won that season for sure.
@@lostrmnticthat’s my all time favourite performance of his! Different tastes eh. But that was midway through the competition. He had some great performances after that. Middle America just weren’t ready for him imo
Have you heard Adam singing “Who wants to live forever” as the Queen frontman, at the Isle of Wight Festival? That live performance will blow you away.
Cher's rendition was a club song. At its time, it was a hit dance song for sure. Adam's rendition is my absolute favorite. I have never heard Believe sung in that way before. He truly did an amazing job honoring Cher with that performance.
Please do Adam Lambert American Idol recently when he did I Can’t Stand The Rain! It’s phenomenal, thank you! Think you would really enjoy it a lot! Love ❤Adam, he can sing anything!
I remember Adam on American Idol & ofcourse he really stood out!!! Just an incredible singer, & having Cher listening to him was really emotional - no wonder, just fabulous!!!! 💝💝💝💝💝
I would he surprised if you hadn't heard this somewhere. This one and Turn Back Time are her two most well known and often replayed songs. Gee Adam just belted this out amazingly, top marks.... I mean This clip shows Cher herself being moved to tears by his rendition. Enough said!
This is an old reaction by him, he referenced Sleepwalker which was his reaction last year. Which was his first on Adam lambert, he has done at least three or four other reactions regarding Adam Lambert.
You should listen to the original by Cher. It’s said to be the first song where they used auto tune to not fix the voice of someone, but to make an artistic effect In the song…
this was a beautiful rendition and you could tell how moved Cher was… the original is so upbeat that even though the words are the same in Cher’s version it’s more like i feel empowered that i can move on while this one is more somber in can i really move on… great song in any version.
Adam totally nails this performance. What an amazing performer. That was Cher who wiped the tear from her cheek and gasped at that note that Adam hit. Unbelievable job on this song. I think this was at the Kennedy Center and several singers were being honored, one of which was Cher.
This is one of the most mind-blowing performances ever, just like THE ANIMALS doing House of the Rising Sun, The BAND and STAPLE SINGERS doing The Weight, like ELO doing Telephone Line at Wembley Stadium, Like THE BEE GEES doing Got To Get A Message To You on British T.V., Like HEART doing Stairway to Heaven in front LED ZEPPLAN and so many others; just special.
How can anyone not know this song, or Cher, or Adam Lambert??? You say you only vaguely may have heard this song maybe??? Really. Omg. I just stumbled across your channel and I seriously can’t understand the ignorance. Cher has been around forever and is known globally. Australia here. Didn’t even finish watching this sorry I just couldn’t do it to myself any more.
Closer to You (live sessions) is one of his songs off his fantastic Album Velvet I highly recommend. The whole album is really good. Adam has a number of solo songs that I can recommend it's hard to pick a few. To really see hiw fabulous he is watch a video of him singing the aria Nessun Dorma during the middle of a Queen show in Bologna Italy last summer. Opera then back to rock!
I can’t believe all these people who review music don’t do some research first. Of course Adam is the best singer of this generation. But to not know this iconic song by Cher is just not doing your homework.
You recognized Reba but not Cher? She was the one shedding light tears off both sides of her face. It was very emotional, not just because Adam slowed it down and you could listen to the words. Cher was also crying because of the reason she wrote it. Cher wrote the song after Sony and her split up. Would she be able to find Love again after Sony left? She was very young and suddenly only. Cher has said this in interviews. Adam did an Outstanding performance to sing a Cher song during The Kennedy Center Honors.
The original song is pretty much one of the first songs that made people pay attention to autotune. Took six years, 7 songwriters, 2 producers, and countless arguments and fights into the making. It ended up being Cher's biggest song ever.
Adam lambert is a very underated singer! He is so talended! I mean super talented! His voice has no range! He can sing so high up to the sky! It was so unfair for him to face all that backlash and disrespectful comments from some people, when they found out he is gay.
This is the second time I've watched this video reaction and still disappointed. Why not first listen to the entire performance before interrupting the flow, this is one of the greatest performances by any vocal artist of all times, it is stunning, one is truly left speechless after hearing it over and over. Apparently these reviewers are so fond of their own voices they just cannot resist interrupting something rather than holding their reviews until after the performance.
Adam Lambert came to the limelight when he was a contestant on American Idol about 10 yrs ago, he blew people away! After Queen lost Freddie, they contacted Adam to join them on tour & has done great things with Queen!! He is great on his own singing covers & this performance was wonderful for both Cher & Adam 🎶💗
One of the things that makes Adam so fantastic (Other than his voice), is his ability to make a son his own. You can see this during his idol days. He works with musicians and changes the arrangement, and makes it better, and he owns everything he sings. To include when he sang with Queen. And YES, than is Chers song "Believe", it tore up the charts and became a dance favorite. I do believe Cher was one of the first to use the "Voice correct" which gives her song a unique sound.
