He wrote this song a couple of weeks after 9/11. Americans were still bleeding from their injuries and their emotions. I remember every second of that day

My mom and stepdad were supposed to be in the towers that morning. Due to an argued that they had the night before, they cut their vacation short and started the drive home to Wisconsin. I hated when they argued but that argument literally saved their lives.

I was on a medical leave of absence from my job as a United flight attendant. Personally, I lost a lot of peers that day, but two were friends working Flight 93 that went down in PA. I retired shortly after. I wish we could come together as Americans as we did after 9/11. Great reaction. 🙏🏻☮

Was living in North Pole Alaska, Sky was a clear crisp blue, not a single cloud - but not a single plane in the sky and seemed even the birds stopped flying, silence outside. The Fairbanks AK area has many airstrips and aviation of every size and type all day except that day. Outside was so eerily silent, a most bizarre and unreal feeling.

I will never forget that morning. I had been in the US Air Force since Feb 2000 and stationed at Travis AFB, CA for 15 months. I was working at one of the entry gates when a patrol came by and told me what happened. Since there was nothing put out over our radio net about it, I kind of brushed it off. When the dispatcher came over the radio and announced we were now in Threatcon (threat condition) Alpha and told me to close my gate, it made me curious. My gate was about 500 yards from the armory. A patrol came and picked me up and before we got to the armory we were in Threatcon Delta, the highest level of security. From that point on we worked 13 hr shift for 2 weeks straight before a day off.

On that day and the days that followed it we all felt and did all of the things he asked us if we had done in the song. I recall myself having such conflicted and conflicting emotions at the time - shouting out in anger and wanting to go out an buy a gun while at the same time recoiling at violence and wanting to just put on old "I Love Lucy" reruns and laugh. This song captured so much of what we felt together as a country in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.

I was parked in my delivery truck in Moonachie NJ, right across the Hudson from Midtown Manhattan. I watched the towers fall and listened to Scott and Todd on 95.5 WPLJ radio. I can't talk about that day, and the weeks following, without choking up. It was a horrible day that also brought the best in our humanity. Bless the victims and their families. Bless the heroes from New Yorks finest (NYPD) and New Yorks bravest (NYFD). Bless all those who joined together during tragedy to help each other through.

I was at work, down in our marketing dept, one of the guys had one of those small TV's. He called us over when the first one happened. For just a few fleeting moments we thought just a plane, then the second one fell & we knew we were under attack. Luckily my boss let me leave to go pick up my kids. We watched TV the rest of the day & for weeks after. It was such a heartbreaking experience, I can't imagine seeing it in person. I'm so sorry! ❤

When that day happened, I was on inactive duty for the U.S. Army, having decided not to reenlist after serving for 12. I woke that morning made coffee and sat down and turned the tv on and barley got a sip when I saw the news feeds of what just happened, shocked, stunned and angry (Veteran of the 1st Gulf War) of what I was seeing. I can remember every emotion of that day from sadness thru anger, and even made phone calls to do everything I could to find a way to be placed back on active duty as soon as possible. To no avail I couldn't make it happen but was directed to a support position for family members that were being deployed. Anything I was able to do to help my Brothers and Sisters in all branches of the Military gave me a sense of peace and hope.

A wonderful, heartfelt expression of what we all felt the morning of 9/11. I think everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing, just as those of us who were alive back then, remember where we were when we heard that President Kennedy had been shot. Moments that are forever etched in our memory. Regardless of how old we are, we will always remember where we were, when the world stopped turning on that September day. God Bless America. Alan Jackson was my first favorite artist, since I was like 4 years old in the mid 90's. He's still on my Mount Rushmore of favorite artists. He has a huge catalog of great songs. Too many to list. One of my favorites that not many will mention is "Like Red on a Rose". It's got a different feel than his normal stuff, but it's still great and highly under appreciated. "Little Man" is another favorite of mine. I've got too many favorites from him.
@amykienitz6311
@amykienitz6311 6 месяцев назад
Usually the artists only get a short amount of time to do their songs, and usually a normal song is a little over 3 min. This song is over 6 min and Allen wanted to the whole song but the producers nixed it and said they needed to stick to the script and he can only do a portion of it. They argued over this a lot and finally Allen finally said ok, but the night of the performance he said screw it we’re doing the whole song. So all the participants agreed and they just kept singing till the complete song was sung. Allen was always very adamant about doing what was right and in arguing with the academy he was never asked to perform on another awards show, nor if he was nominated for an award did he show up to accept it. It was his snub to the academy for trying to force him to only do a portion of this song.

My wife woke me that morning to tell me to come look at the TV. She had been watching and getting ready for work. I walked in the living room to see one of the towers burning. A few seconds later I watch in disbelief as a plane hits the second tower. My wife immediately burst into tears. Later I asked her why she burst into tears. She said because our safety in America was forever changed in that moment. Later, as I was driving to work and watching all the cars of people, knowing that we all knew what had happened. We shared a commonality of humanity that happens in times like these. Something really special about that experience. One day I hope we have that experience just because. I like you guys and enjoy your reaction videos❤ One of my favorites back in the day that I would enjoy you all reacting to is Johnny Rivers, midnight special. He has other great songs as well. Alan Jackson is a TRUE class Act! In 1999 he stood up against the CMA Awards for disrespecting George Jones. PLS check out A.J. "Pop A Top / Choices" 1999 CMA awards. I gained a whole new respect for the Man that night!, New subscriber here I'm enjoying your reactions, Thank You!!
