Great reaction but I have the impression that you may not be aware that the song that brought you here, "Man of Constant Sorrow", was actually performed by this group and in the movie George Clooney was merely lip-synching. Here’s a live performance, and the singer is Dan Tyminski: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EuJ8xEByUf4.html

Alison Krause is pitch perfect, and has incredible breath control. Listen to her sing. When You Say Nothing At All. Also listen to Rhiannon Giddens: Wayfaring Stranger. For Country I love Johnny Cash, and all the songs on the album for the movie about him Walk The Line are great, but especially God Will Cut You Down sung by him when he was old and sick. One of the reasons that I like Country in all its forms is that you can listen to real musicians, and artists who can sing and also play an instrument. One of the best guitarists is Vince Gill. Give a listen to Tulsa Time with him, Sheryl Crow, and Eric Clapton, and Vince alone with Go Rest High On That Mountain. Oh, almost forgot: Linda Ronstadt with Blue Bayou.

They are one of my go to's when it comes to listening to great music. One of my all time favorites, which is a cover from the band Shenandoah, is "Ghost In The House". The live version of that is spectacular! Also, Alison's work with greats like Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, and Led Zeppelin's rock god Robert Plant just cement her as one of the keystones of music and musical talent!

I sang in a choir with a woman who has/had (she was considerably older than I am, and I’m now 68) perfect pitch and she said the only drawback was that she couldn’t mentally transpose up a third or down a fifth-her brain made her sing what her eyes saw. If anyone with perfect pitch reads this, I’d love to know if that was simply a Judy issue or is it commonplace among the PerPit crowd…

@@maryrosekent8223 That's interesting. Singers I know with perfect pitch can sing any note whether or not they see it on a score, and many of them can sing up a perfect fifth, or a diminished fifth, or an augmented fifth, and tell you what each note is. An enviable skill, for sure. And then there are complete musical geniuses like Alma Deutscher, who compose complete piano sonatas from notes randomly drawn from a hat. Oh what a fun genre! It might be my current favorite, in fact. Alison Krauss is so talented. Some other great artists to check out in this genre: well, there's a compilation album with Alison Krauss that also has James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and many other super talented bluegrass artists called "Appalachian Journey." Also, some other great female bluegrass groups and artists are Red Molly, Crooked Still, The Wailin' Jennys, Sarah Jarosz. There are so many others, too. One that I would *love* to see you react to is Chris Stapleton when he was in the group the Steeldrivers. Omg, they were so amazing together. They're still a great group! But of course when Chris was with them, he added his Chris touch. My two favorites of theirs are Ghosts of Mississippi and Blue Side of the Mountain. They have a lot of great ones. Chris and Patty Loveless recently did a live performance at the 2022 CMA Awards for the song You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Red Molly sings a fantastic version of the same song, as well. Sigh. I believe I've given too many recommendations, but if you consider listening to even one more bluegrass song on this channel, you may have a hard time not listening to the genre's entire catalog. Enjoy!

I was just listening to Alison Kraus and Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby. When you posted this... Yes I have always loved Alison Kraus. She is true blue grass.

I saw Alison Krauss live once, in 2017 or 2018, and had the same reaction about the quality of her voice: when she began to sing, I expected to hear something less pristine than what I've heard from her on recordings ... it's live, after all. But there it was: this impossibly crystal clear voice coming at us in such high beauty it was almost too much to bear.

I have said exactly the same thing. I saw Alison and Union Station during this tour, and he is absolutely correct. They are perfect every time. You might as well be listening to an album. But, they have been playing together since Alison was 14 years old. She and Dan met each other when they were 14, and I've seen a video of her playing with Barry when they were both so young!

Dan Kominski the guitar player in this band was the guy who sang the vocals in "Man of constant sorrow."

Her voice has always resonated with me. It's beautiful and haunting, and she's a fabulous storyteller. I'm going to keep on you to react to Ren, "HI Ren", because you talk a lot about loving storytellers, and identify with dealing with depression. That song will hit your soul.

I second the suggestion of doing Whiskey Lullaby. Hauntingly beautiful and with a story that sticks with you for life.
