Tragic song for a tragic life. She had so much talent, it is such a shame that she didn't love herself as much as we loved her. What an amazing singer.
Amy had a lived-in voice, because she truly did live in it. My dad, an 80-something cynic, but lifelong jazz aficionado, heard her sing and stopped in his tracks. He doesn't even like singing, per se, and always said singing 'ruined' jazz. He had a few go-to singers he could rely on - Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, but there were very few. So, believe me, for him to say Amy Winehouse was a brilliant singer is a MAJOR event in my music-loving family. And he's right of course. She was indeed brilliant. And she's deeply missed by millions. ✌️❤️
My dad loved the blues, and loved Pink!s first album after he overheard me play it. She’s more dancey pop now but her 1st was pop blues and dad died last year anyway
Prince once said that Amy's 'Love is a losing game' was one of the best songs he had ever heard. I have to agree. That song just leaves me a blubbering wreck.
The funeral in the video shows her burying her heart. There was a headstone in shot which said "R.I.P. the Heart of Amy Winehouse", but this shot was edited out of the video after she actually died in 2011.
It originally had her name on the head stone but she was upset at it so changed it and then life imitated art a few years later 😟😢😢one of my absolute favorite artists, devastated she's dead
Yes. A man broke her heart. He went back to his old girlfriend and left her. Then, when she gained success, he came back to her. He was a user who introduced her to hard drugs. He was no good. But she loved him truly. Sad story.
_"He was no good"_ He was actually a really nice bloke, a bit mad, a bit unhinged, but really nice nonetheless, to be fair they both drifted into drugs around the same time, maybe he (Blake) got there a little earlier, maybe he was the wrong person for her to be involved with, but they both fucked up, not just him, not just Amy . . . . but it's a little too easy to blame him, they were both victims of drugs, Blake made it through, she didn't, those whole few years were fun, but ended messily, I had to kick Blake out of my house at one stage, nothing dramatic, he (and a friend) just invited themselves to stay for 'a night' and were still there weeks later . . . messy times, good bloke, didn't really know Amy, only met her a few times.
@@davelordy my doorstaff at the time were friendly local neighbours used to have a drink with us after work and maybe catch a late night friendly let in to jazz aftet dark or Ronnie's, I was a bar manager in soho in Amy's day. And yes sadly I have to agree knowing the circles I knew and know.it sadly did effect her earlier then we think and we shouldn't blame it all on Blake because yes they were both effected deeply for their own person reasons. It just so happened that I took her hard in that last moment and took such a beautiful young flower away from us. We local Camden, soho, East enders, Londers will always make sure she's played out loud for the world to hear
@@KindCountsDeb3773 You know what, she had given up booze for a while, what killed her was drinking the amount she used to be able to cope with. If you drink a lot and often, you can be accustomed to and able to cope with large amounts of alcohol. Of course that may kill you anyway. But if you've stopped for a while and then go back to your bingeing ways, it will apparently kill you dead, right away. So is this advice just getting alcoholics off the NHS waiting list? Are you really helping people? Or are you just reenacting Methodist principles - drink or die! If Amy had never been "treated" how long could she have lived? Surely several decades more?
Such a tragic story..she was taken too soon at 27 years old. A life of fame, and a boyfriend who introduced her to drugs and alcohol, then broke her heart...something she never really recovered from. She died, tragically and accidentally of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 ! She is one of the most incredible female jaz voices ever known. "Love is a losing game ", "Valerie " acoustic version, Rehab, all amazing songs....
The album "Back to Black" is perfect, start to finish perfecto! When Amy died the last hope for talent in the music business died with her. She had more talent in her mascara than Taylor Swift & Justin Beiber combined.
True as it is that she had more talent than Taylor and Bieber together...to claim all talent in music business died with her is utter rubbish and rather sad to think all you know is Bieber and Taylor.
She has so many good songs. But at heart all she wanted to do was sing jazz. I am 100% sure you’ll love and appreciate the live version of “Love is a Losing Game”.
kj robbi you’re so right. I guess fame & fortune doesn’t always necessarily mean happiness. All these people suffered with their own issues & the music industry lost because of it. I think some people tend to forget they were human beings with families that loved them. They were all robbed from what could have been. It’s heartbreaking for everyone 😢
It was a shame how the press hounded her down, oh she bought alcohol, oh she bought drugs again, she couldn‘t move back or forth without being on the press. They literally waited for that overdose.
The first time I heard Amy I was driving and had to stop the car to listen. When I first saw her I couldn't believe a big voice like that came out of her. Been a fan ever since. RIP Amy
Tell you it crushed me when she died. She is forever going to be my all time favorite female vocalist. We last an absolute treasure to her addictions. "Go Back To Black" is her going back to heroine.
I didn't realize that I've been listening to the 'clean' version all this time. The original lyrics are even more haunting because it sounds like her very tragic life.
Realy ??? How could I get to see it ??? Could u help me...I want to know of this....my email...jacklynsalleh@gmail.com If you could send it to me it would be awesome...tq tq tq😊🙏🙏
@@jacklynsalleh6033 there's only a couple of words blanked out in the "clean" version - "dick" and "blow".. As in "kept his dick wet with his same old safe bet" and "you like blow and I like puff".. Wouldn't have got mainstream airplay on Radio unless sex/drugs references removed. RIP Amy.
What an amazing and powerful voice Amy had i was so sad when she passed away that she had got into a downward spiral ,I hope she knows how proud of her we are and that she’s still got us all spellbound in her silky and dramatic voice . ❤️
That beautiful contralto voice. What she could have achieved if she hadn't died so young. She could sing anything. Her last recording was a duet with Tony Bennett.
Extremely talented yet very troubled, only 27 when she died. I once saw her on a tube platform at Camden years ago, singing to herself, bright eyed and very beautiful. Great reaction Jay, I love your observations on the lyrics and yes, she does have that old school Motown kind of sound. She loved all those great singers of that time. You must also listen to Tears Dry on Their Own from Amy, another fab song. 💓
@@perrymalcolm3802 Yeah, that is an amazing memory to have of her, her simple essence. What happened to her was a crying shame. And we all watched as the addiction(s) slowly ate her alive. Hard to watch. We all feared she would die.
@@jacklynsalleh6033 Well I was on the tube so technically only SAW her singing to herself from the platform. This was before the beehive when she looked healthy and curvy. Aw, Bless her
Amy was a talent, one who was taken from us all too soon. She also was part of an album by producer Mark Ronson and recorded a song called "Valerie" which you might also want to check out. "Rehab" is a good song too. We miss Amy!
She is burying her heart. The original music video showed the tombstone and it said THE HEART OF AMY WINEHOUSE. She had the tombstone destroyed right after the video shoot.
You need to react to her biggest single, "Rehab". That song shows her full vocal power! It's jawdropping! You should also check out Björk's "It's Not Up To You", and "It's Oh So Quiet". If you love women who can SING, she will make your jaw hit the floor!
so many better Bjork tracks than "its oh so quiet".....Joga, Isobel, Hyperballd, Bacherlorette, Venus as a Boy, Modern Things, Hunter... pretty much every other song she did in that period was (IMO) much better. It's oh so quiet was kind of gimmicky, it does not really illustrate her music very well, She is a varied artist, but when I think of Bjork and her sound...its not "Oh so quiet" that comes to mind, Just my opinion for what its worth maybe I am biased because that tune actually put me off her until I heard a lot of other tracks and realised it was not really her sound...the other stuff was, maybe Im projecting my own preferences
She attended an audition for a record label it was here first one. She had brought her guitar with her and during the performance a string broke, she said I will come back the record company said she could continue but she left anyway. She did return with a now repaired guitar and the rest is history. Pure natural born talent who was destined to be a star, who else would be so blase at an audition.
Awww what a lovely reaction! A device without a few Amy Winehouse classics on is a pretty dull one, so welcome to the crew dude! The entire Back to Black album she wrote in the small hours, on her kitchen floor with her guitar, a glass of Jack, a blunt and her notepad and she poured everything she was feeling about Blake Fielder-Civil and their relationship into her music. She romanticised the fact they were currently apart in a high thoughts process kind of way, as he was behind bars at the time for petty crime and non payment of fines types of offences. It was a warped our love will prevail I’ll die for this man, classic stand by your man actually, vibes. Overtime though her on stage, mid concert ramblings of her love for him and pleads for him to be freed became alarming. The deeper into her addiction she fell so did the quality of her gigs. There’s a few clips people have uploaded on here, personally I can’t look at them. I find it odd people, still to this day, get a buzz out of shaming a very sick person in this manner. It should never have been allowed to happen, it’s sheer madness that her agent, manager, friends family, anyone in their right mind allowed her, and supported her in doing so, to take the stage in the condition she was. She was literally dying on stage, a mess, make up and hair all over the place, falling all over, forgetting to sing, not knowing the words, evidence of self harming, it’s was heartbreaking she was unrecognisable. Together, Blake and Amy, they were unfortunately very damaging for one another due to substance abuse and addiction. When you’re in love and heartbroken you make dumb decisions but being in love, heartbroken and high it’s a recipe for disaster. They couldn’t live together but they couldn’t live apart, it was one of those toxic love situations because when they were together they’d fight for hours on end, where hotels had to ask them to leave. It was crazy that Amy saw this horrible state she was in/relationship as love. The back and fourth went on for a couple of years, once free from Blake, a rehab programme literally did wonders for her, putting her in a calmer, clear state of mind, living sober and getting back into her music. That’s why the worst part about Amy’s death is, it didn’t happen at the height of her addiction, she’d been straight for months. She’d gained weight, was working out and feeling positive about her life, music and her sobriety then just like that she hit the vodka hard. Her roommate came home, found her drinking again and they had a huge blow up, he left to cool off for a few days, like any other time and to wait for the “I’m sorry come home” call. Only 3 days passed and the call didn’t come so he went back to check on her to find she’d passed. That final relapse was all her poor, fragile little body and soul could take. It was her roommate she’d lived with since they were 17, they were truly best friends, they met at stage school and it was him who’d encouraged her to keep at it until she caught a break. He listened from the room above all night long as these songs were created from the kitchen below. He’s actually a singer too, he released a few tracks but he never got a great reception despite him being pretty good. His names Tyler James if you want to look him up listen to the Higher Love cover he released, the notes that lad can reach are super super high! Amy’s Father, Mitch a black cab driver from Camden, set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation in her honour, they do great work with young women fresh out of rehab who’ve no job or anywhere to sleep. They take them in to live at the centre and aide them in getting back on their feet and into employment and eventually their own accommodation. They also help educate the youth about the dangers of drugs and what to do and where to go if they’re battling with addiction, self harm or eating disorders. They’ve even branched out and taken on some assignments overseas, their website is worth checking out and if you can spare a monthly donation, no matter how small then follow the simple steps to set one up. It’s a nice way to still support Amy while helping other vulnerable young women. I think in due course they’ll be another EP from Amy, last time I spoke to Mitch he said there’s still a back catalogue of unreleased work should they decide to follow up on the Lioness Hidden Treasures EP. I was hoping it would be for the 10 year anniversary next month but we’d have heard some advertising and promo by now if that were the case. Anyway after such a genuinely kind reaction video I’ll hit the subscribe button on my way out! Good luck with your channel and in everything you do!
Thank you for sharing. You are quite the fan. I discovered Amy Winehouse late in her career. I had heard songs from Back to Black album, but never really closely listened until, well, these reaction videos. I don't know Amy's personal history. I wonder if she was always depressed and melancholic. This song gives me chills in a bad way. A worthless lover spurns her and she returns, not is introduced, to nothingness. She goes back to black, meaning that's where she was before she fell out with her lover. Without this person she is dead even though she has not one kind thing to say about this person. What happened to her? What happened to her soul? Did she really give him so much power over her that he could send her back to a dark place that he created for her? Good grief! She has such a rich soulful voice, but her story is bone chilling. I'm sorry for anyone who has to endure life confined to the shadows. This is not a criticism of Amy Winehouse. This song and the rest of the dark songs are a cautionary tale. I hope Amy has found peace.
I didn't know her voice was like THAT haha, that's the most common thing I hear from first time listeners. Yea, she was that talented and tapping into something different in the mainstream during that era. I didn't get into her music until after she passed and I still struggle with her story and loss.
How can you not have heard of Amy Winehouse? It’s all about exploring diversity and an openness to new genres of music beyond our conditioning...all expressions of it are beautiful if you’re a music fan. I’m glad you’re here now ❤️
U can never go wrong with Amy Winehouse. Will always remember the day she was found, half my staff couldn't get to work because of the road blocks and police cars and concerned local neighbourhood fans, it shook the city big time, used to pass her occasionally in soho, westend, she would venture in Jazz after Dark and few of the others. Beautiful troubled soul ❤♥💖 her music will never disappear
A singular artist. Should have still been alive to make more music. Tragic young woman. Tremendous artistic loss. It’s about her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.
I loved Amy so much. Reminds me of my daughter, so misunderstood. Brilliant lady, no one can beat that voice.. Hope u dancing with the angels Amy...til we meet...💐💐 WWG1 WGA... Dark to Light 🌑🌕🌕 Love from Essex UK 🇬🇧🏴
She was the voice and sound we didn’t know we needed back in the 00’s. That album is solid. Sadly she was too soon forgotten after her death and many found a similar enjoyment of sound when Adele emerged though Amy was always so much more raw. Btw, Post Modern Jukebox is one of the best music groups of creative musical enjoyment going right now.
This song really gets to me because this is Amy singing in her true voice, without any influence of Billie Holliday and other singers which tended to get in the way with other material. Just stunning. God, if she'd just lived longer, what music she would have produced.
she's such great talent and sadly missed, RIP Amy and thank you for sharing your wonderous gifts with us! we love you! Jay thank you! :) Enjoy your evening my friend!
Big fan of Amy, didn't get into her music untill about 10 years ago when she died. She was a misunderstood person. Way ahead of her time fashion and music wise. She finally got outta drugs was getting healthy and then went back to drinking and sadly died.she so many good songs and even as a Metalhead I have a soft spot for Amy's music.
I didn't really follow Amy during her lifetime, but I watched a documentary about her and immediately regretted that decision. What a phenomenal voice...definitely a throwback to an earlier time. She reminds me SO much of a classic jazz/blues vocalist like a Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey or someone from that ilk. She had so much talent, but she was tormented by unseen demons her entire life. As sad it is to say, very often the people that suffer the way she did end up being the most talented artists.
I find it hard to listen to Amy without feeling angst and sorrow. How was she allowed to destroy herself with all those around her not realising what was happening. So sad. What a talent.
@@RyanairButter Hmmm, so "I don't wanna go to London, no, no, no." to the same tune, counts as her own work if she swaps "London" for "Rehab"? I think I'll become a songwriter!
I’m a bit of an oldie couldn’t really watch her but her songs and vocals were terrific and could listen to her all day. It was so sad that she died before her time, unfortunately she was on a destructive course. She was with Adele at the same music school in London. RIP Amy.
Amy Winehouse amazing talent gone too soon as they all do. Sickening she was stunning inside and out. Troubled as we all are but poured her heart out and was so brave to sing about it and to give us an amazing album she will be remembered ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rehab is definitely her best song and she died after coming out of self imposed rehab. Tragic lady who could not stop her destructive lifestyle. She had everything to live for but could not kick her habits. Very talented artist but watching her go down was horrible.
