*FIRST TIME HEARING* | Babymetal First Take "Monochrome" REACTION! 

Hey all, son here! SO, obviously we screwed up a bit lol. Gonna address everything the comments are saying. - We have reacted to Babymetal multiple times on this channel, they're a phenomenal band and we 100% recognize their talent. - I genuinely did not realize it was a first-and-only take, I truly believed it sounded like more of a marketing thing lol. - We didn't mean any insult towards Moa, it's always our goal to entertain but unfortunately some jokes come out mean-spirited. Also as the background singer for this song it does make sense she had less room for movement than Su. - We mentioned Su had autotune. She does not. She's really that damn good. I will say her voice had the trebly sound of autotune but that was probably just an equalizer. - Did not realize the actual definition behind Ragnarok, but hey atleast I got the "everything being destroyed" part right😅 (Thor Ragnarok is a great movie tho ngl ngl) Thank you all for the passion you guys have, and also thanks to a lot of you for being constructive critics as opposed to insulting my giant ears haha. As confirmed below - The First Take - exactly as it says, the first and the only take, no repeats, no cuts, (and I have read that any mistakes are left in). They really are that good ... but they have been singing with BABYMETAL and commanding crowds of thousands for over 12 years of course, they are seasoned, experienced and very talented professionals. Also there was no autotune they don't need autotune, (it is used in maybe a couple of studio recordings for specific songs like 'BxMxC' for artistic reasons because of the nature of the song, but not when they play live). At most there was a bit of reverb, but only noticeable on Su's very last note. Moa was not dancing around for a couple of reasons - first off this was the piano version - stripped back, just the piano and vocals. Secondly, those microphones apparently cost something like $11,000 each and they pick up absolutely everything - you could hear them walking in, the sound of their footsteps and costumes rustling. She was standing still supporting Su with the contrast of the support vocals to Su's lead. The reference in the lyrics to Ragnarok (from Norse mythology - "a series of events, including a great battle, foretelling the death of numerous great figures and gods, natural disasters, and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors") .... and given other interpretations of what this song may be about, I don't know if it was a coincidence that this First Take video was released on the anniversary of the Tokyo fire storm following an incendiary bombing raid in 1945 that killed over 100,000 people.

Please don't let SU and MOA watch this video.If they do, they'll be sad.

The First Take do not use effects in these - this is all about the singers natural talent - and you only get one take - mistakes stay. And no this really is the first and only go at it (I mean they do get the warm up vocally obviously - imagine this as a race - the athletes warm up so as to prevent injury but they only get one go at the race itself). Second Su does not need autotune (it has been used on a few studio tracks for pure effect - fans generally hate it though so why we always say go to live performances - she truly is better live than recorded). She is one of the most talented singers I have heard. The effects I have seen her perform live in concert you would not believe. Moa's job is to back Su (as the principal dancer/backing vocalist). Actually to just see Moa stand and sing is a real treat for most fans - one we all enjoyed. Moa is a good singer - Su is an exceptional singer.

Why is it so hard to believe that they do this in one and the first take? How many takes do they have when they go out on a stage at a live concert?

they are used to commanding crowds up to 20k people easily with no fear. if she looked nervous its because first take is just 1 take. no mess ups allowed. this is just 1 take.

If you've ever performed on a $1000.00 plus dynamic mic you would know that it picks up even the slightest movement of the performer: And there is two of them in proximity. I am sure this is emphasized to all the performers on First Take since they only get one shot at this. In fact you can hear their clothes rustling from several feet away as they approach the mics. Normally, mics like these are isolated by sound booths. I have performed in these before and you have to control every breath you take while recording. This explains the apparent "Stiffness" of the performers. In spite of this Su's emotion still shines through. This is a phenomenal recording and shows the precision of Su's vocals. I know you meant no harm. Just bear in mind that just because we musicians can make a performance look easy it almost never is.

Moa always supports and sings the chants or background melodies. She concentrates on dancing. I thought you would know this from the amount of BABYMETAL you have reacted to. Moa can sing and her voice it pure joy. Others already explain what First Take is all about. And no auto tune is allowed. 🤘🦊🤘

The premise of the channel is that is a "first take", so no second chances. So only one take if you believe what the channel says. Su (the main singer) is not using autotune, she's a great singer. I see you point on wanting the other singer (Moa) to be more active, I disagree but I see your point. What I think was unnecessary was excessively mocking her.

Dad's right, just one take but wrong with autotune. Su does not need it .she is just that good . One of the requirements of Sakura Gakuin( the school themed idol group BabyMetal came from ) was that they had to be able to sing acapelo no instruments . Moa is also a talented performer in her own right . If she danced about it, it would ruin how they wanted to present this performance and maybe the take . BABYMETAL's hometown of SU is Hiroshima. So if you can imagine what you're singing about from the English translation, I don't think you can laugh. Use your imagination. They are sung as metaphors. And the "聴聞" is wrong.

As those of us who have seen then live can attest, this is all Su singing live; she is just ridiculously good as the result of natural talent combined with having been a professional singer since she was ten years old. She might be only 25 years old, but she's been doing this for 15 years.

When watching the Marvel movies is the way to understand "Ragnarok" we are in trouble. Ragnarok is a tale from Norse mythology about the death of many gods and the end of the world before it is reborn. Su has an exceptional voice with great power, clarity and vocal control. Moa also has a good voice by normal standards, but only rarely takes the lead on a song and usually does backing vocals. In this exposed vocal performance Su is very confident and I think Moa is quite nervous because her voice is usually in the background and I think you can see that in her body language, but she holds it together to support Su. The song has a familiar BM theme of loss and then hope and being strong through adversity. Some people think that the song is about the WWII bombing of Japan or even has a connection with the Hiroshima bomb because the lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto, comes from Hiroshima, but I'm not sure about that. BM songs and BM themselves are a marvelous canvas for fans to paint on, but pinning the song to particular historical events is a bit too much extrapolation IMO. BM were created in 2010 by a producer at the Amuse Talent Agency called Kei Kobayashi. He heard Su singing with a short lived group called "Karen Girls" and thought her powerful voice would work well in a metal context. So when she joined the Amuse school themed J-pop group Sakura Gakuin he put his plan into action. Part of SG's conceit was that the girls had school clubs and would sing songs themed around those clubs. He paired her with Moa Kikuchi (the other girl in the video) and Yui Mizuno (sadly left BM in 2017/18) to provided backup vocals and dancing to form the "Heavy Metal Club". They became so popular they they were spun off as a separate group called Babymetal in 2013 and went onto major international success. The next songs you should experience are classic BM concert performances like "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" or "Headbanger - Legend 1997". Enjoy!

If you need to know how she's able to do this in one take then you should watch "Akatsuki Unfinished Version" live at Legend 1997. As you two have seen Babymetal perform many times. I think it is utterly amazing they got Moa to stand still for this long. And is most likely the only time you will ever see it. Plus, those very expensive Mics pic up everything. Her cloths moving would be picked up. Since it's one take. When Su starts moving. You can't stop her. I thought it was incredible that she stood still for as long as she did. Think about that. The both of them usually are moving while singing and now they're told just stand there. How hard that would be for them. Since they're really good singers. The hardest part might have been trying to stand still. On top of that they are facing each other. If Moa would have started her shenanigans Su might have laughed messing up the song. Which is why I think you see Su looks up a lot. To avoid looking at Moa. one smirk by Moa could be all it takes. She's got that kind of power. The giggling starts and they go full on Kawaii. This video would be very different. In the end. we got to see something that Moa's never done before on stage while in Babymetal. Stand still would ya. All in all I would say this was an amazing video by them. Because we got to see them do things they never do. And now maybe they're ready for an unplugged special. That would be so very cool. Babymetal changing things up to the softer side and yet their very next song might be the hardest thing they've ever done. Only The Fox god Knows.

You evidently are unfamiliar with the talent that these young ladies possess (that is okay). Suzuka Nakamoto doesn’t need auto tune (neither does Moa Kikuchi for that matter). The First Take by the way is raw vocals , no auto tune no filters. BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (who left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 10 when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose. Kei Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). The First Take is really a first take. Some artists are confirmed recorded lyrics mistaken.

Like most performers on the first take they are in studio mode when they stand in front of a mic like that. Only Su moves around in the studio because she wants to make sure she will be able to dance while singing it live. On the first take singers get it right. Remember they're all Japanese and they've all rehearsed for it a hundred times.

some have imagined this song to be about the bombing of Hiroshima in WWII. Maybe coincidental, but SuMetal was born there.

Perhaps "Road of Resistance (live in Japan)", "Megitsune (music video)" or the original version of Monochrome with full instrumentals? They formed BABYMETAL back in 2010, aged 11-12 years old. Su-metal, the main vocalist, is a fantastic singer and has been able to convey emotion through her singing since the very start. Ragnarök comes from Norse mythology and it is a series of events that will ultimately destroy the world before it can start over. The First Take should be only one take, I've only seen them invite the very best singers.
