Yes, Boston is indeed from "Boston." Lol. A legendary rock band, who's debut album is still to this day, one of the biggest sellers of all time. Every song was a banger. The most incredible thing about them is that the guitarist Tom Sholz wrote every song, played every instrument, and did the entire production of the album in his own basement. He then recruited his friend, singer Brad Delp, to do the vocals. Once they had it all recorded and shopped it around to local radio stations and record labels, they caught on. Once they started to hit, they then had to form an actual band and start touring/playing live. It is truly an unheard of rise to fame. They have so many amazing songs. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Tom Scholz an MIT educated electrical engineer genius working for Polaroid Corp.(Yes the legendary instant camera’a and film company) in Waltham Mass was given an ultimatum by his bosses because he was spending to much time on his hobby music. So he resigned. He build a studio in his Watertown apartment (yes Same Watertown as the shootout with the Boston Marathon bombers). He soundproofed the room with material he bought so as not to be evicted. Built all the studio equipment from scraps he found. He created all the sounds himself with exception of Brad Delps vocals, Brad, from Peobody Mass, was introduced to Tom by Barry Goudreau. The drums were provided by Jim Masdea and then Sib Hashain for the final production. Sib’s was from Lynnfield Mass and his daughter married Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson. Tom Scholz created the sound of two guitars by overdubbing his own guitar tracks. He produced the harmonies by over dubbing Brads remarkably vocals. Tom first lied to a prospective music producer that the sound was created in a California Professional Music Studio because he thought know one would believe he made it in his basement. The debut Album is one of the greatest debut rock studio albums of all time in 1976. No one had ever heard anything like it. It presented a new problem. The record company insisted they tour. Which meant assembling a band the technically didn’t exist. But they pulled it off. The rest is rock history. RIP Brad Delp. PS Marianne was a real person. When Tom Scholz was 10 he had a crush on his cousin Marianne.

"No computers or auto tune" Computers and other forms of electronic recording aids in general most certainly existed in the '70s, and this album is full of them. Sound engineering, editing, mixing, overdubbing, multitracking, lip synching, etc, was very much a part of the music industry well before the '70s. While they may not have yet had auto tune, that didn't mean they couldn't and didn't enhance and "sweeten" the voices and instrumentals on records. They did it the old fashioned way, turn a knob, push a slider on the board, and viola. They could make anyone sound better. In fact, there was a bit of a scandal about that in the 1920s and again in the '50s, pertaining to "singers" or musicians who got credit on records who didn't or couldn't really sing or play, but they had the right "look" and charisma that could make a lot of money for the record company, so they got a lot of help in the recording studio through the magic of sound engineering.

Great Reaction! 1976! We were so spoiled for amazing music in the day! Driving down the road as a teen with music like this song playing for free on our radio... and we just thought this was normal ;-) This song peaked at #5 December 25, 1976 stayed at 5 for 2 weeks. This blows me away because looking back I think it tromps the top 5, but then again there are ones below it form Queen, the Eagles, Elton John, and more that all gave strong competition for air time. see The Real American Top 40 Wiki. You are right..Boston's more than a feeling has been played in numerous movies and tv shows over the past couple of decades. Founding member Tom Scholz wrote the lyrics, and recorded all the instruments he played...in fact, he play all instruments in the debut album. Brad Delp sang the vocals including backup and harmony. Tom was ahead of his time, as a graduate of MIT, and employed at Polaroid, he worked on this album for 6 years in his basement, creating creating electronic devices that would be used for voice and guitar and organ. In fact, many of the foot pedals used in the rock industry today that give guitars their unique sounds, are a result of Tom's inventions and patents. Tom dubbed the voices over when Brad entered the scene giving the sound of a full multiple voice, while Brad also dubbed in the harmonies. The entire album was produced in Tom's basement...genius. It was their debut album to boot, and remained on the top 100 charts around the world for 132 weeks. There was no one like Boston's sound with the electronic devices that Tom created to enhance the sound, and they quickly took the rock and pop era by storm, right during the Disco age. Im 65 years old, and I still get goose bumps listening to Boston....no other band like them then or now.

Yeah, these "reaction" channels can be entertaining, and it can be fun to listen to oldies and hear someone else's take on them, but for not just this channel but any of them I don't buy the premise that this is the first time they've heard this stuff. I was kid in the '60s, teen in the '70s, 20 something in the '80s, etc, and my sons now in their mid-late 20s know music from back then in many cases as well or better than I do. They've heard it all of their lives, on the radio or CD while riding in the car as kids with me or their mom, in TV commercials, on movie soundtracks in the '90s and '00s, and they were the generation that grew up with Guitar Hero in the early '00s. Their mom was a Rush fan, and one of them started going to family-friendly Rush concerts with his mom as a pre and early teen. On the 2007 tour (he was 11 at the time) he got chosen to go backstage pre-concert with a small group of fans and meet Alex and Geddy. A few years ago they and I were watching a movie and a song was playing that I couldn't place, and one of them correctly told me it was Santana, like he was alive in the '60s instead of me. 😄 So yeah, in my experience, that generation is pretty hip to their parents' music.

Just so you know, every song on Boston's debut album is at least as good, if not better, than "More Than A Feeling". It's one of the rarest of rare albums which contains no clunkers. Love Brad Delp's vocal range where his voice soars into the Stratosphere and like a baton, he hands it over and his voice morphs into the guitar which is playing the same note. I'd highly recommend "Foreplay/Long Time" next. It's jaw-dropping great! BTW, I grew up in Lynn, MA about 8 miles north of Boston. The next town over is Swampscott, MA. Several of the guys in the band lived in and still live in Swampscott.

@richb313 Where does all of this Boston/Scholz urban legend BS come from? Tom did not write all of the songs on this record. Brad co-wrote Smokn' and Brad wrote Let Me Take You Home. Tom does not play a single drum track on this record and the record is so much better for this fact. Sib plays all drum tracks except Rock and Roll Band which was played by Jim Masdea. Barry plays electric rhythm guitar on both Foreplay and Long Time and he plays lead guitar on Long Time and lead and slide guitar on Let Me Take You Home. Fran is playing bass on Foreplay. Brad plays acoustic 12 string on Let Me Take You Home. Let Me Take You Home was recorded at The Record Plant LA by the band members as pictured on the back of the record. All of Brads vocals were recorded at Capital Studios Studio C by producer John Boylan. The record was mixed at Westlake Studios by producer John Boylan, engineer Warren Dewey and Tom on the studio's new and then top of the line API console.. Epic refused to sign "Boston" before they heard the songs played live. This required a band. Once the live performance test was passed, Epic signed Brad and Tom to a record deal. Some of there were some personnel changes but that band went on to record Let Me Take You Home before this record was finished and released. Not a single track from the demo that was submitted to Epic an and Boylan was used on the record. Tom redid all of the instrument tracks at his studio except for the instrument tracks for Let Me Take You Home. I would encourage you to read the liner notes from the original debut Boston record along with the liner notes from the 2006 Scholz remaster of the debut Boston record as well as the interview that Boylan did with MIx Magazine. I would also invite you to read the legal documents from the lawsuits between Tom and Barry. Tom has not always been clear, accurate, upfront, honest and fair when he tells his story. Tom has repeatedly obfuscated the truth to minimize the contributions of Barry, Brad, Fran, Sib and Boylan and to glorify himself.

@@richb313 Sort of an ad hominem response. Why not dispute the facts that I have presented? I offered documentation to back up the facts that I set forth and that is not an argument that is providing evidence to prove that you are wrong. If you have evidence to prove me wrong, I am glad to see it/read it. However, at no time has Tom ever specifically claimed to have played the drum tracks on either the demo that went to Epic or on the Boston debut record.

Boston had some of the best "feel good" music of all time. They have banger after banger. Cant wait to see your faces reacting to Forplay/Longtime. So much ear candy....probably the best debut album of all time.

FYI the biggest selling debut album of all time by a group. Every song on this album is great like "PEACE of MIND', "FOREPLAY/LONG TIME", "ROCK & ROLL BAND", "SMOKIN", "SOMETHING ABOUT YOU". Originally all produced in studio and instruments played by one man Tom Shultz except vocals by Brad Delp RIP.. It was so successful he had to hire musicians for each instrument to tour.

You really need to see these guys perform live on video. Yes, they are from Boston. There are actually 4 members.. Brad Delp was the lead vocal singer. One of the best singers of all time. Great harmony of all members. RIP Brad. 😎

This debut album was pure magic and the brainchild of Tom Scholtz (lead guitar, writer, lyricist and pretty much everything else). He was an MIT trained engineer who produced the album in his garage/home. Brad Delp added vocals then layered his vocals for background harmony and magic was made. Every track on the album is unmistakably Boston and can stand on its own. Their second album Don't Look Back carried with it similar magic. My favorite song of all time was on the second album. It departed from their usual upbeat sound but was still undeniably Boston. The song is A Man I'll Never Be. It is seriously worth a listen.

Marianne was the founders, cousin whom he was in love with when he was a young boy. Tom Schultz is the founder and played all the instruments on the album fine-tuning the album for eight years before he sent the finished product to a record company. Brad Delp RIP was his friend and became lead singer of the band. They didn’t know what to call themselves so they just went with their town. BOSTON.

I grew up in Massachusetts, I worked during the summer as a landscaper in a fairly affluent town. On Fridays we cut a lawn next to the home of Sib Hashian drummer of Boston. They used to rehearse in his basement and as we ate our lunch on the curb many a sunny summer Friday afternoon we would hear Boston practicing. Thanks for the fond warm memory. Oh BTW awesome band…

This band is from Boston formed by Tom Scholz who was an MIT trained engineer, who built his own recording studio in his apartment basement and recorded the album Boston in it. He recorded the album using devices he invented and ultimately patented. Tom played guitar, bass and keyboards. Brad Delp who has a fantastic voice is the lead singer and he committed suicide in 2007, I think. This band blew so many of us out of the water. I saw them live several times and this debut album, titled Boston was released in 1976 when I was 14 yrs old. It is still one of my top 5 favorites.

An incredible debut album. Rock was dying, disco was king, and here comes Boston in 1976. The only comparable group was Kansas. Yet Boston was the genius of one guy in his basement and killer vocals from Brad Delp! They later brought in a drummer to finish out some songs. I still listen to it often today! Next up should be Foreplay/Long Time and Hitch a Ride with its killer solo.

As others have said, every track on this legendary debut album is fire. Tom Sholz wrote and performed most of the instruments, Brad Delp provided matchless vocals, and we all rocked endlessly to this when it came out. Still an all-time great. Check out Foreplay/Long Time, Peace of Mind, Rock and Roll Band, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, etc.

I was raised in blues and jazz. But my daddy loved music. He loved the Beatles. I want to tell you if you don't listen to Chris Stapleton at the CMAs 2021 you are missing out on something so special. I am going to donate to you as soon as 😊 possible. possible. Thank you for making smile. daddy music
