This song gave me chills the first time I heard it, 52 years ago, and every time since. One of the best songs ever, from any genre.

I'm 56 years old and this song STILL gives me chills everytime I listen to it.

As most will mention, HEART did a tribute to this song for LED ZEPPELIN in attendance at the KENNEDY CENTRE, and one of the finest cover tributes ever, that brings a tear to most who watch that performance. Definitely needs to be seen and reviewed.

The magic of this song is: no matter what mood I'm in, when this song comes on I always sing along to the end. Nothing matters while this song is playing.

Its the mighty Led Zeppelin. They were rock n roll alchemists and magicians. They were only around 10 years but their impact on rock music is something akin to a large meteorite striking the Earth. They left a huge impression that's still being felt today.

John Bonham the drummer is not just the percussions, he has a sense of groove, a musicality, that makes him one of those rare drummers that add to the melody.

The hardest thing to do for most all of you guys and girls doing these reaction videos is to put yourselves in the time frame. this album came out in 1971, you have had 50 years of music since this. At the time, this was groundbreaking, no one had ever made music like this. And, like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin kicked open doors as to how rock music could be made, what instruments could be used, what songs could be written about. My father refused to let any Beatles albums be played while he was home. Rock and Roll was a fad, it couldn't last, it could not stand the test of time. Well, ha ha. Because of the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin, and a few others, Rock and Roll can never die. There is a reason Led Zep is considered one of the most influential bands of all time., 4 of the greatest musicians, all in one band. Jimmy Page is one of the first 3 guitar "gods" of the 60's, along with Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, no one has ever had a voice like Robert Plant, the "prince of peace", (1973, Golden Gate Park, Neal Preston Photo, Robert and the white dove, true story) and Jonesy and Bonzo, well, just listen.

I can't understand how anyone older than 20 cannot have heard arguably the most famous song in the history of music. Must have been living under a rock.

"Immigrant Song", "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", "Ramble On", "Kashmir", "When The Levee Breaks", “Dazed & Confused”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, "Rock & Roll", "The Ocean", "Over The Hills & Far Away", "The Song Remains The Same", "The Rain Song", "Good Times Bad Times" etc.

I realize it was 45 years ago but when a radio station played the top 500 songs of all time each year this was always number one. ❤️❤️❤️ we studied the lyrics in English class too. I love to see young people hear this for the first time.

In my opinion, it is usually better to check out studio versions first. Even when good live performances exist there are aspects to studio performances that can’t be matched.

The fact, that up to this day people argue about, if it is worth the hype, makes it worth the hype. As long as people talk about it, it's still relevant and people over more than one generation read their own meaning in the lyrics of it. THAT makes it worth it. One of the greatest songs ever.

I can't believe anyone under 50 has never heard this song. It's a staple of classic rock stations everywhere and is at the top of almost every classic rock playlist.

Definitely do a live version! I recommend the one from Madison Square Garden in 1973. I go back 50 years with this song. Bought Zeppelin IV back in high school in '73. Oh, that's a recorder in the beginning. Live John Paul Jones would play the mellotron, later it would be a synthesizer, to get some of the orchestral parts. Might I also suggest Heart covering this song at the Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin.

A true rock fan can be walking through a mall, our other public venue, hear the first few cords of this amazing song and stop in his/her tracks to revel in the musical journey. Just a timeless classic.

They pretty much made no bad songs. All unique. Most bands have 2-3 good songs per album, LZ had lps full of good songs...not an overstatement. To see them at their peak and in truest form, do live versions from The Song Remains the Same soundtrack. Trust me😊

Heart did a cover of this at the Kennedy Center with John Bonham's song on the drums and Page, Plant and Jones in the audience and those 3 remaining band members cheered and gave Heart a standing ovation. You should watch that.

Just never walk in to a guitar shop and play "Stairway to Heaven" 🤣 I had a Stairway to Heaven fabric poster/flag hanging in my bedroom as a teenager and this is one of the first songs my Dad taught me to play on guitar. One of the keys to the "building of the song" as you kept mentioning is that the tempo increases throughout the song. This is incredibly unusual for most popular music and was the key to the power of this song. I've seen Jimmy Page describe this and how it was intentional when he wrote it. What is more incredible is that Robert wrote the lyrics in about half an hour and threw in bits and pieces of Tolkien references which were common in his lyrics in the early 70's. Good reaction. It was thoughtful and not just OMG! which gets so old. Nice to know you really listened.

The song is actually about a woman who is rich and thinks she can buy her way into heaven. And that she's entitled to anything she wants. And this is a message to her that money won't get u a place in heaven no matter how much money she has.

I think you have the feel of this song...Ultimately, you realize that you can't quite adequately comprehend it, but it's beautiful, it's comforting, and you know it's somehow important...

Songs like this can't be interrupted. React afterwards, just enjoy the song in its entirety and immerse yourself in the joy of the song. Interrupting takes away from enjoying the gradual build up of the eventual climax. An absolute masterpiece.

This is one of those songs it matters not what some think because history is already written.

This song is the ultimate slow burn. It starts so gently and builds so gradually, you don't notice it at first. And later, when you think it's built as far as it can, it keeps finding a new level.

The Stones, The Who the Beatles, and AC/DC are all rock gods and deserve their flowers, but the crown belongs to Led Zeppelin! For my money, the greatest rock band to ever plug in an electric guitar!

One the GREATEST songs of all time. The instruments you were referring to were flutes. I was in high school in the late 70's and I had a Literature teacher that taught this song as poetry for meaning. Needless to say, we LOVED that teacher!

You need to see the live version at Madison Square Garden in 1973 which is the year I saw them which was the very first live concert I ever went to, and I sat 7 rows center stage I was 18 years old.. common sense lol tells me I was cool at 12 when this band came out and I fell in love with them

Those lush, shimmering chords on the 12-string are the most beautiful sounds Jimmy Page ever got from a guitar. Now turn the record over and go for “When the Levee Breaks.” An old blues from the 30s, also played on the 12-string. It’s the darkest, angriest sound Page ever got from a guitar.

LZ had so many wonderful songs. When the Levee Breaks, Misty Mountain Hop, Kashmir, Houses of the Holy, The Rover, In My Time of Dying. You could find gems in all their records. When John Bonham passed away the group decide to disband, as the foundation that the drummer gave to the group just wasn't there and they knew a replacement wouldn't work. Though only active for 12 to 13 years, they made a lasting impression.

When I got my first job in high school in the mid-'70's (as a restaurant dishwasher), I took one of my first paychecks and splurged on my first four rock albums: the "White Album" by the Beatles, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Black Sabbath's Paranoid and Led Zeppelin IV, which has this song on it. In other words, I was a typical, long-haired "dazed and confused" 1970's kid. I'm a dazed and confused 64 y.o. now, but I still love this song, despite the fact that it was played 8 million times on FM radio throughout my teenage years. I liked your reaction - and let me add something to your thoughts on this song: most modern songs follow a simple format - you have the first stanza, usually followed by a short lull, then the 2nd stanza, then the first chorus, then a 3rd stanza and then you repeat the chorus. At that point, most songs will just repeat the chorus several times before ending. What makes this song amazing is that there is no chorus. Rather the song follows the traditional 3 Act structure of storytelling. Remember - Western literature embraces Aristotle's 3 Act play structure: Act 1: The Introduction; Act 2 Conflict; Act 3 Resolution. This song is so beautiful because it flows like a play. In Act 1 you have only vocals and simple guitar as we learn about the empty materialism of our flawed protagonist, in Act 2 the drums are introduced as we are told that empty materialism can never give us fulfillment and that there is so much beauty in the natural world outside the realm of man's wealth; and here's my interpretation - in Act 3 our protagonist fails to learn life's lessons as she insulates herself at her final moments of life with her wealth, believing that her wealth can give her eternal happiness. She is wrong but she will never learn nor change her ways. This song is a tragedy. It reads like a Greek tragedy. Brilliant lyrics, music and structure - all combined. That's why this song is often thought of as the greatest rock song every. That's my 2 cents. I'm glad you reacted to it and thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it.

You should definitely watch Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin - Kennedy Center Honors live preformence. Its a tribute to Led Zeppelin with them attending the audience. Although obviously preformed not by them but it's done so amazingly well and honestly one of the most powerful live performances you can watch for this masterpiece of a song.

You will enjoy Zepp, They have so many different songs and styles, When Jimmy Page formed the band he found out that the other 3 members loved the American Blues as much as he did going back to the 1920's and the rest is history! 😀

How could you have never heard "Stairway to Heaven?" That still blows my mind.

I get chills every time as we hit the outro section. The line “when all are one and one is all” is so profound! There are so many things in the world that show us the Truth of that, but we are nonetheless blind to the implications of it. Reticent to live the Truth of it. If everyone held that concept in their hearts and minds daily we would be so much better off as a species! I think the writing of this song was inspired by the divinity present in all of us, though the band may say otherwise. That’s probably what inspiration is, at it’s core, anyway.

You've never heard "Stairway ?" Ever been outside? This band was a monster for decades.

The song itself is a stairway as it goes up and up. The instruments in the beginning are recorders (like alot of people had to play in grade school music class in the 80s and 90s lol)

Quite simply one of the greatest rock songs ever made, a quintessential example of old school rock that is still better than most songs made today. The fact that we are still listening to, and enjoying tracks from 50 and 60 years ago, and being blown away by the, again and again, shows the quality of rock from that era (The Animals, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Rolling Stones...the list is endless). I was born in 67, so grew up with a lot of rock music, and I am honestly jealous of people who are only just hearing these songs now. I wish I could unhear these tracks, just so I could hear them again for the first time.

As a guitar player, I can tell you the guitar solo in this song is the greatest guitar solo of all time. Not because of anything other than the way it speaks to you. There are a ton of solos that are fun to play but there are some that can reach down and speak to you in a way that others can't. David Gilmore's solo in Time is another one. Page just hits all tge right notes in this one and says something with the guitar that the song could never say with words. It is that good. The next time you listen to the song you'll know it's coming and every time after that you'll know it's coming. It's a payoff for the listener every time. It never gets old.

Led Zeppelin always intended to have acoustic elements in their music, on their albums acoustic ballads are interspersed between rock songs!

A couple of things to mention. Years ago there was a Kennedy Awards Honor show to pay tribute to people and Led Zeppelin was honored on that show with different musicians paying tribute by covering their songs live on stage. To set the scene the surviving members of the band, Robert Plant (singer), John Paul Jones (bass/keyboards etc) and Jimmy Page (guitar) were in the balcony watching the tribute. Also sitting next to Page was David Letterman who was also being honored in this show. You need to watch the video of Ann and Nancy Wilson from the rock group Heart covering Stairway to Heaven…you mentioned the great guitar solo in this song. Imagine trying to play that solo with the iconic Jimmy Page watching you. LOL I wont give anything else away but that video is definitely worth a reaction.

Jimmy Page, the guitarist, was a prominent session musician before forming Led Zeppelin. He is the lead gutars, composer and producer of all LZ albums. But yet he gave rooms to bandmates grew and expanded in some songs. Now Robert Plant has wonderful solo careers.

63 yrs old... I've always loved the first line leading into the faster pace... "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now... it's just a spring clean for the may queen". "Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on". The woman at the beginning is on the wrong path... she thinks all that glitters is gold, and she thinks that the path(stairway) to heaven, can be found by accumulation of wealth/material goods... he later says that her answer lies on the whispering wind. "And if you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last". "To be a rock, and not to roll". (you ended it just a touch too soon) OH... I see on my sidebar you decided to do a live...
